DO NOT USE THEM!!! We bought our 1st home they were recommended to us. They came out told us minor details about our house we had the previous home owners fix little things before we signed. Once we signed we found out our windows weren't sealed properly there was moisture all in our walls, moisture under the crawl space things that should have been caught in the inspection. We file a claim & of course there not willing to do anything about it they want us to drop the claim against them and the "best they can do is give us what we paid for the inspection back" Knowing it's going to cost thousands to get the walls & windows & crawlspace fixed. When this could have be avoided if the inspection was done properly knowing the inspection is the most important part before buying a house specially your first house. I am moving to VA and was unable to be there for either of the two houses we were looking at. Paul Champion did an amazing job with both house inspections. He thoroughly went through the areas and even opened each and every possible area needed. Even though we still have not gone through the house (still live in CA), we feel very good about our home purchase because of Paul and our absolutely awesome realtor! It was not only the attention to detail but also the quick turnaround with the reports. Both reports were completed and sent to us the day of... it is very rare to see. Home Inspector raved about how great the HVAC unit was for the house we bought. 1 month later we go to turn on the heater and it sounds like a train is running through our house. We call out a company to service the unit and it turns out he actually looked at the unit before the house was listed. He told the previous owners a new unit was needed, they declined because they were selling the house. US inspect told us this damage happened within a month of them doing their inspection. We used US inspect for our home a little over a year and a half ago. The inspector was very unprofessional and scattered. Still, we didn't think much of it. Here we are a year later and it turns out our HVAC was improperly installed and US Inspect missed the issue altogether. After a year of slowing accumulating water, our HVAC does not heat our home (and it's 19 degrees outside btw). When I brought this to US Inspect, they claimed no responsibility and said that because it had been over a year, they will not even advise us on how to proceed. If I could do it over again, I would definitely use a different company. read more

Kevin Salva's home inspection for my most recent home purchase was excellent. He was thorough with his findings and spent about 30 minutes explaining everything to me when he was done. He found a lot of things that needed minor work and as a result, I was able to get some $5k worth of repairs done on the seller. I'm sure this happens all the time but Kevin left me with a printed report outlining all the repairs suggested. After all the repairs were done Kevin came back out and did a re-inspection to ensure that all items on his original list were completed to satisfaction. Solid work. read more

This is an update to my first review of US Inspect. (in all reviews tab for details) I am shocked at US Inspect's ethic code. This company does not stand behind its work and instead of attempting to correct the falsely documented roof status of my house, the only attempt is to give me back the cost of my inspection upon signing a release claim form. Which would release them of responsibility and forces me to remove bad reviews of the company and prevent any further bad reviews about them. There are other inspection companies which offer warranties for their inspections so I still strongly suggest potential clients to seek out other inspection companies. read more

We are moving to Williamsburg from a long ways away, and had to rely heavily on a good inspection report to show us the material condition of the house we are purchasing. US inspect really came through. Their 51-page report to us covered the house from roof to crawl space, with the critical information and photos that we needed. Although I wasn't there for the actual inspection, our realtor tells me that the inspector (and I apologize for not having his name) was comprehensive and detailed. First time home buyer, US Inspect took their time going through the house we were about to purchase. They spent over 2 1/2 hours looking at the interior/exterior structure and found numerous issues which they pointed out immediately to us. Within hours they sent us the full report which helped us ask the sellers to fix prior to move in. read more

This company is great. They found 45 items on a house we had them inspect and we were able to get out of that sale before it was too late! They came and inspected the next house we were in contract with, and so far there have been no surprises since buying it. They alerted us to a possible oil tank from things they found in the crawlspace, as well as moisture damage and possible pest issue. We were able to repair those issues at seller's cost because they spotted it! That's all things we never would have seen because they were in the crawlspace. I think we will use them a few months before we ever sell too, so that we can spot any issues that we need to fix before listing. read more

The inspector that they sent missed a MAJOR gas leak coming from my HVAC unit. There is no mention in the report that he even turned the unit on. When I called US inspect it took them a week to file their claim and the only reason there was any communication was because I kept calling. They won't uphold to the warranty they claim to promise and are not taking responsibility for their mistake. My family (which includes my 2 kids) could have died from carbon monoxide poisoning and they show no remorse or sympathy for endangering my family. I would not use them or recommend them to anyone. Although their website say Michael Cornwell is an "up and coming" home inspector, he's clearly a seasoned professional who knows what he's doing. I found his inspection to be extremely thorough and the report insightful and easy to read. His on-site explanations with the seller's agent present made requesting repairs a breeze. They accepted everything we asked to be fixed. I would definitely recommend US Inspect to anyone buying a home in Hampton Roads. read more

My husband and I trusted our realtor is everything. It sounds so ridiculous, but after we traveled to VA Beach twice for a week each time and did not have luck with an of the homes we fell In love with, we decided to have her find us a home. She did a fantastic job because not only did we LOVE this house, but the inspector she chose to come inspect our new home was amazing. Jim Hughes was amazing. He was charismatic, fun facts type of guy, very knowledgeable beyond inspections, took his time and did a great job. We loved talking to Jim and asking him questions about the house, we are first time home owners, so we were obviously worried, but Jim was able to answer all our questions and put us at ease. My inspector missed that my water heater was incorrectly installed on single instead of a double circuit breaker, resulting in my losing hot water for two weeks, having to miss work for repairs and pay for them out-of-pocket. When I went to U.S. Inspect to seek reimbursement, since the problem stemmed from the inspector missing the incorrect installation, the company refused to reimburse me for even some of my expenses. This company does not stand by their customers. First of all the direct quote from their website stating: "Our reputation is built on decades of honesty, integrity and excellent service to customers during one of their most important life decisions - buying or selling a home." Is completely laughable. Our home inspection started off great. They showed up on time and did their inspection with a quick turnaround on the report. However, after the home purchase was finalized, we had our services turned over (i.e. electric, gas, water, ect.). When the gas company arrived they came in and at first glance (from a distance) told us our water heater did not appear to be installed correctly (in fact he used the word illegally). The solution was to purchase a new one that meets the capabilities to be installed and vented correctly. So we contacted the home inspectors to ask how they missed this. They sent an inspector out and he re-inspected the water heater. We tried asking him if everything looked ok but he would not answer any of our questions, and simply stated "we will get back to you". After waiting the whole weekend they responded back and said they were willing to refund our inspection fee, but that was it. They still never admitted the water heater was installed incorrectly. After being quoted a new water heater (the correct one) and labor we were left with a $3000 bill. Once again we contacted the inspectors via our agent and they said they were not liable for things they miss (although this is a major safety violation). So once again, if you care about knowing your new home and family will be safe, do not choose this company. read more

My Inspection Tech showed up a few minutes early and stayed for 2 hours inspecting every nook and cranny of the 1715 square foot home and 1500 square foot garage and storage on the property. Mike F. was his name. He was very friendly and very thorough. Checked everything from the crawl space to the tiniest little cosmetic fine cracks in the tile. Very pleased with the services we received. Already referred the business and the Tech by name to someone we met in a home buying class. So as first time home buyers we couldn't be anymore happy with the services received. Received a great list of items inspected and all that pertains as well as pictures and in depth descriptions and a summary of the report. And when it was finished he went over it with me personally as well as receiving the report. Will definitely use US Inspect (Mike F. specifically) for our home inspections in the future. While the inspection done by Kevin Salva was thorough ( give credit to the software) including finding a few issues that needed to be corrected; several comments were blatantly inaccurate. What is the company's accountability for making these errors? For example, the inspector stated that the circuit breaker was oversized for the HVAC unit. Upon simple visual inspection, the unit indicated that a 25a breaker was required. The breaker in the load center is 25 amp! The non-fused disconnect switch was clearly labeled "UL Listed without the use of a dead front cover ... " - the inspector commented that a dead front cover needed to be installed! I almost "lost it" when Kevin "passed" the electric dryer - it's a GAS dryer! US Inspect's disclaimer statement makes me wonder why anyone would pay for a report that isn't accurate. Will US Inspect reimburse the seller if he hires an electrical contractor to come out and tell him that the inspector was wrong? Yes, the sale fell through ... The buyer cited the inspection as the reason. PS: still waiting for US Inspect's Customer Service to return my call. read more

Prior to purchasing my home in Williamsburg, VA I had my initial home owners inspection by US Inspect and thought it was thorough and complete. However, during a routine preventive maintenance inspection, the contractor revealed that the suction line was bent in clear view which caused poor air conditioning flow. I called US Inspect and they were most rude and insulting. Worst customer service ever in my life. read more

We had a scheduled appointment today for 1pm. I called U.S. Inspects at 1:20 wanting to know where our inspector was. I was told that they had a new program and it wasn't functioning right. The inspector showed at 2:45. Although the inspector was very knowledgeable and would use him again I do not plan on using U.S. Inspects or referring them to any of my buyers. It is very unprofessional to make a client and agent to wait almost 2 hours. We make plans and schedules for a reason. My advice for U.S. Inspects would be to maybe come out of the electronic world some and make sure your clients are being taken care of!! read more

Horrible inspection and customer service when I reported issues. They missed major issues and then insinuated I was lying about the damage. In fact, the inspector missed an entire crawl space where there was rotting wood, a hole in the floor, moisture damage...all to the tune of $950. I discovered all this damage when I replaced the carpet. The inspector then refused to clear his schedule to come out and look at the damage. I had holes in the floor, no back door, it was snowing and the temperature was in single digits. They refused to reimburse me because I had repairs done before he could get out there. They expected me to live without a backdoor and holes in the floor until it was convenient for him. I gave him 24 hours and took pictures of the damage before I had a new door installed and the floor patched up. They said I tore rotting wood from somewhere else and the pictures didn't prove anything. The customer service rep laughed at me because I was upset. Terrible. Never use them. read more
