To my pleasant surprise, there was a lot of different things that you could buy there, and it saved me from going to the supermarket. Some things are overpriced such as minced garlic from Goya. They wanted almost 7 dollars for it, but the vegetables were priced low and they looked good even though there wasn't a huge selection like but that was just because my expectation was that it was just a fruit vegetable market. Apparently this store has changed hands since the last time I went there. I was excited at the prospect of being able to go here and shop locally for small business owners and with it being less than a half a mile away from my mom's house my goal was to go there and get lettuce, but I wind up getting a number of things That I needed from the supermarket and so when I left there, I felt satisfied. When I got home, there was a whole different story. I bought red leaf lettuce, which was rotten to the core on the inside. I had to throw it out. I also bought Romain lettuce, which was mostly the darker green leaves and less of the crisp part of the lettuce, which disappointed me a little, but I figured I could still make do I washed and cut up the lettuce and I used the pre-cut onions, celery, and carrots that I bought also from this fruit market. And I made my salad. When I was eating it, I didn't really notice anything except that the leaves were not really what I like. I don't love all Bert green leaves found at the top. But whatever. I ate it. An hour later and for five hours more, I was sick as a dog. I had to take two different stomach medicines, and Tums because something in that salad did not agree with me and then I start freaking out because the first one that I threw away was rotten so it made me feel like this lettuce wasn't that fresh or maybe it was the pre-chopped onion, celery or carrots. All I know is that I almost called out of work today. Luckily, I felt better when I got up, even though I have still have a little bit of a stomachache I called them this morning and told them that the red leaf lettuce is rotten and they need to take it off the shelves and I told the lady that I was really sick last night. She was so nonchalant about it and said OK and we hung up. I don't love that. She should've said come and get a different head of lettuce, but she didn't offer anything. And therefore, I waited till I got home from work to write this review. Unfortunately, I will not be going back here again. I usually go to Rahway Farmers Market and I don't think I've ever had this issue. I didn't take a picture of it, but I should have. Because when I tell you that the red leaf lettuce head was slimy and rotten on the inside to the point that it should've never been put on the shelf.

This time when I came in to pick up, there was someone there to greet incoming patrons and hand off their order. He was friendly and quickly gave us our bag. I was disappointed when I got home and found that two of my favorite ingredients in my salad were missing. To me, these ingredients made the salad desirable (goat cheese and candied pecans) so it was a real bummer and to make matters worse, the balsamic vinegar I received with it was not enough to cover all the greens and grains, so the salad was very dry until I added balsamic vinegar of my own to it. Luckily, my guests food was all there and made the way they requested. I am keeping my rating the same because I contacted customer service to complain about my expensive lackluster salad and the representative was friendly and actually showed empathy to my frustration. She quickly resolved my issue satisfactorily.

This past week the supermarket finally opened so of course I took some time to check it out! I was not familiar with Sprouts until this location was announced. The store brands itself as a high quality market focusing on organic and specialty goods. Imagine taking some of the more "crunchy granola" parts of Whole Foods and condensing them into one store. Size wise this place is bigger than a Trader Joe's, but smaller than say, a World Class Shop Rite. Like TJs and Whole Foods however, Sprouts has many products from their in-house brand on the shelves which offers nice alternatives to brand names. Speaking of which, similar to Whole Foods, Sprouts limits the brands it carries, so do not expect the diversity of say, Shop Rite or Stop & Shop. When you enter the market the prepared foods section and pre-packaged meal area is off to the right, produce is in front (with other items such as rice by the pound and spices) and off to the left is the frozen area, breakfast foods (cereals etc.) and in the back corner is the health and self care section with everything from Probiotics to shampoo. I did not rush and it probably took me a solid 30-40 minutes to explore the entire store (and I went aisle by aisle for fun!). Price wise, these folks are more on par with Whole Foods than Shop Rite, but given the organic pedigree that is hardly a shock. Don't expect big savings here, come prepared to spend some cash. The staff was very busy, I trust in part making sure the store looked good given that it just opened. In that respect they were doing a great job. Despite the crowd the store and shelves were all in excellent shape! I do plan to revisit Sprouts again some day but it will not be replacing any of my other supermarkets. Still, it is a fun addition to the area and I'm hopeful it is a success!

Our waiter (very friendly brazilian guy) was top notch from start to end, always on top of the table (party of 4) to make sure we were good with drinks, that food was good and up to standards and nothing was missing, and always with a smile and a positive attitude. We had queso fundido and guac to start which was pretty addictive (we had 2 baskets of chips). After we had fajitas, chicken quesadillas and beef enchiladas. We all ate and still were able to take some home. Very flavorful and seasoned food, great portions and very price friendly. We had such a great time and will definitely be back soon for more, what a wonderful evening!

We sat at the bar, ordered way too much for two people, and enjoyed every bit of it. The empanadas, which are clearly a crowd favorite, absolutely delivered, and I loved that there were vegetarian options not just for those but across the menu more broadly. That made a big difference. Yes, it's crowded, and yes, you should think about reserving before you go, but the wait is worth it. The staff was also really helpful and kept things moving despite how packed the place was. If you're in Iselin, Jose Tejas is an easy recommendation.
