My mother was sent here after a stay at the hospital. We were never really sure why she was sent to…read morethe cancer center, because we were not aware that she had cancer. We never got a diagnosis, because she was re-admitted to the hospital and quickly passed away. However, during our three visits there, I had a bad experience which left me feeling bitter. The first time my mother and I went, she had blood work done and then we were taken to a room to wait for the doctor. Just as you do at any other doctors office. The second time we went was just for blood work. My mother was very scared. She was 87 years old and didn't know what was going on with her health, and really wanted my presence. I was taken aside and told that I was not allowed to be with her while my mother had her blood work done. I tried to explain to them that she wanted me to stay with her, but they didn't care. I wasn't even allowed to sit in the waiting room and wait for her. I was told I had to leave the building and wait outside. So I, as a 65 year old woman with health issues of my own, had to stand outside in July during the hottest part of the year waiting for my mother. I have never experienced such disregard for the patient's family as I did at Florida Cancer Center. My third and last visit there was also for bloodwork for my mom. I took her in and got her signed in. When they came to get her, I went out and got in my car to wait. The wait got rather lengthy, and I finally got out to go find out why it was taking so long only to find that my mother was sitting outside in a wheelchair alone, where they had parked her. No one called to tell me that she was finished and I have no idea how long she had been sitting there in the heat. I was appalled and disgusted, and I was beyond angry. That was my experience with this business. I don't recommend them to anyone!

Husband had advanced end stage cancer. 80, run down from horrible treatment at Moffitt. Went here…read morefor PET scan, Mayo Clinic was calling the shots for his care. Scan showed spreading so they suggested lo dose chemo to see if it might slow it down. IF chemo was successful, Fl. Cancer doc said he might be candidate for immunotherapy, giving him false hope. Was talking with Mayo throughout this process. Chemo didn't work. BUT that didn't stop Fl. Cancer doc, one we didn't ever speak with before, from calling to schedule the immunotherapy program. I asked him why on earth he would recommend that after chemo was unsuccessful and he said, well we could try it anyway. I already spoke with Mayo who informed me immunotherapy is ONLY recommended for early to maybe mid stage cancer and ONLY in patients healthy and strong enough to withstand the effects. Fl. Cancer didn't care at all about the suffering he already was enduring nor did they care about inflicting more. And by the way, Mayo also offered up the truth about what immunotherapy can do to an already weakened, elderly person. He was ABSOLUTELY NOT a candidate. At $14,000 a shot, I am fully aware of why they push it, giving false hope and causing further harm. I don't know how they live with themselves. I can only hope those same people get to be on the other end of this kind of care some day. It's just a money machine. Stay away!!
