I will start off by saying that many parents and their children have had positive experiences with…read morethis school. I am not negating, disparaging, or invalidating their experiences. I am going to share the facts of my child's experience with this school, and you Reader may make what decision you will. My child attended HOA for kindergarten in the 21-22 school year. Before enrolling, I took a tour of the facilities, and was ensured by Mrs. Khan that every child receives a top quality education, that all therapies needed would be offered by on-site therapists, and that each teacher was qualified specifically to work with special needs children. It sounded too good to be true. It was. As of the 22-23 school year, the teachers were NOT certified educators- they did not have licenses as teachers in public schools are required to, and had no evidence of "special" training to work with special needs children. Mrs. Khan was asked to produce such evidence, and declined to do so. In my last experience with this school, her primary educator who worked with grades 5-12 only had previous employment experience as a waiter in a restaurant. Her other educators either have no licenses or expired ones. There were no therapists "on staff" with the school- only the ones parents pay for themselves out of pocket. You have probably noticed a high employee turnover. There is a reason for this. Mrs. Khan has repeatedly created a hostile work environment for her teachers, going through as many as 3-4 employees A YEAR. She has also had to pay to settle a case of illegal labor practices on behalf of House of Academia- she has threatened to or has in actuality withheld wages and/or W2's in retaliation against teachers who resign. Former parents had to threaten legal action to ensure a safe playground free of sharp metal, broken equipment, broken safety gates, and clean bathrooms stocked with the bare minimum of soap and toilet paper. One of the school's exterior doors and the parking lot gate were left unlocked throughout the day while being across the street from a bus depot. During the 21-22 school year, a high school student (who was allowed access to the elementary students during recess) threatened to kill the children with a gun on three different occasions because they were "being too loud". Parents again had to threaten legal action to compel Mrs. Khan to move the older girl to a different recess. Parents were the ones who had to report this to the police after the fact, even though Mrs. Khan as an educator and an adult is a mandated reporter. During this time, a Maitland HOA location was being built- and the electricity and water were nearly shut off at the Elboc road location due to her financial negligence and mismanagement. In retaliation for notifying parents of the severe issues in the school and "creating problems", Mrs. Khan fired the only kindergarten teacher at the school 2 weeks before the end of school, threatened to expel the students of parents who complained, barred the RBTs of children whose parents had complained (preventing them from receiving any of the therapy their parents had paid out of pocket for) and refused to have a kindergarten ceremony for the children whose parents had contacted police. This could ALL be overlooked- except that Mrs. Khan is charging the parents of special needs students over $1200 per month for these facilities that are poor quality and educators who are not certified or trained. It is obvious from her multiple luxury cars, expensive brand-name clothing, and 4,000+ sq. ft. home in a gated community in Dr. Phillips/Lake Buena Vista that Mrs. Khan's priority for her schools is the money they bring her- not the educational improvement of special needs children, who deserve a quality education just like all their neurotypical peers. We participated in their 1st session summer program and were very pleased with the outcome. He was excited to go to class and looked forward to attending every day...in the summer! The stride made during the 3 week session was astounding. While summer tuition was expensive, from our experience, it was worth it. That positive experience lead us to enrolling him full time this school year in the hopes that our child's advancement will continue.

My kids were both born in Florida, and our family has moved around quite a bit, so we've seen different school environments. That said, Windermere Prep has been much more than just a school for our family it has truly been an experience. The campus is beautiful. The classrooms and teachers are nurturing, and the school offers strong academic programs, including the IB curriculum. My children have also had opportunities to participate in international trips and other experiences that helped them grow beyond the classroom. At the same time, like any school, students still need to take responsibility for their own studying and effort. I've found several administrators and teachers including Mr. Villatico, Dr Fouche, Mr Muenker, Ms. Gemma very supportive and easy to work with. When concerns are raised, the school does respond and work toward solutions. We are proud to be Lakers.

Preschool Pros: curriculum Preschool Cons: Teacher retention; on average, children go through at least 2 lead teachers a year, and it's a revolving door for assistants. When our children were attending SCAWG, it was advertised as an advanced curriculum school; it's not. We withdrew our youngest child first because it's easiest to succeed in surrounding charter schools' lotteries when entering kindergarten. Youngest attended from age 2.5 - 5 (VPK). Youngest is testing above grade level in ELA (was even promoted to grade 1 phonics class at new school) on Florida's statewide standardized assessments (F.A.S.T); however, Math results were below grade level. Elementary School Pros: N/A Elementary School Cons: no technology in classrooms, teacher retention, no behavioral specialist, inadequate disciplinary action, unrealistic amount of at-home supplementing, ineffective curriculum, no positive reinforcements for academic achievement, no standardized test prep, combined 4th and 5th grade class Oldest attended from age 3-9 (grade 3.5; we withdrew after mid-year). For context, in kindergarten, first, and second grade, the oldest had all A's with 1 B for the whole school year. Q1 of third grade all A's, one B, Q2 of third grade all A's, one B. Oldest tested at grade level in ELA on F.A.S.T and below grade level in Math. At SCAWG, they introduce concepts and move on quickly without allowing the child adequate time to practice or retain what they've learned. While every institution has its pros and cons, we're most disappointed by what we now realize is a horrible curriculum and questionable teaching styles. There are better elementary school options in the area than SCAWG, and I urge you to exhaust them. SCAWG Elementary turned out to be a colossal waste of money for us - it shouldn't have to be for you, too.

I signed up for real estate school with Karen Climer of Demetree Real Estate School and the first class was last night. I was super excited to go! Walked in the foyer and Karen was there and told us to silence our phones and put them away. So I pulled out my phone to silence it, walked into the room and found a desk. I laid down my notebook and put my phone on top while I was getting all my things situated. The next thing I know, she was in my face yelling at me "Did you not hear me when I said phones are not allowed in my classroom?!" I told her..."I did, I am getting ready to put it in my purse" and she screamed again at me "I told you not to carry it over the threshold of my classroom"! At this time I am mortified, humiliated because this is in front of the whole classroom! I said "I'm sorry" and she stopped yelling at me and walked to the front. While standing up still in shock, I said "Just so you know, that was extremely rude and unnecessary of you to speak to me that way". Throughout the course of this four hour class, she took two adults phones away from them when they forgot to put them away walking back in on break! She had other moments of speaking down to people in class as well. I asked for a refund but she will not refund me even though she told the class last night she would refund you if you don't like get no phone rule. We ended having a phone conversation today and she said I was disrespectful to her for "walking over the threshold with my phone". I told her you wouldn't talk to a DOG the way she spoke to me! So here is the deal...PLEASE PLEASE if you are considering going to Demetree School with Karen Climer....DO NOT. There are plenty of other great schools out there to choose from that treat you as a human being with kindness and respect. **She never explained why she has a strict no cell phone policy, but I imagine she wouldn't want people filming her treating people this way and putting it on the internet. It's disgusting really...I am still in complete shock from her emotionally abusive behavior!

You can have hour-and-a-half (that's the minimum time you can have) classes or longer. It is not cheap (I pay about $30/hour) however the class is geared to my learning style, speed of learning, and what I want to learn (work-related terminology and sentences that I can use right away). The best part about taking these classes is that Aaron teaches me familiar/less formal (in addition to formal) words and phrases, and we can digress on interesting topics that come up. Oh, and books are included with your tuition.
