I had a great experience at uptown cheapskate until I saw the price on one of my items. It was new $24.99 at Tj Maxx, but they had $29.99 on it. This didn't seem right! When I asked about it, they said they sell it higher than what the tags say since Tj Maxx is lower than retail. This is crazy and I've never heard of a consignment store doing that. I have a love-hate relationship with UC. Every time I come in, I am always so excited but when I leave, I leave mad. Their prices are not reasonable compared to their sister stores out of state, more specifically CA. Although I know they are more of a "luxury" thrift store per se, their floor items are not very luxurious... even with 50% I'll end up spending $10+ for Target brand items. Their selection for plus size women is also limited. I've never had issues with their customer service despite all of the negative reviews. Overall, I'd give it a 6/10. You might as well go to Goodwill with similar prices for a larger quantity selection but similar quality. read more

It was going to be my first time selling here...she quickly mumbled that I was to stay in the store while they went through the 6 Rubbermaid containers of items I brought. There were several laundry baskets of items ahead of me. I didn't have the time to wait and certainly didn't get the feeling that I would get anything of significance from waiting. The teen girl who works there was looking at my every move as I was trying to shop for some clothes for myself as I don't have much money a usually by secondhand. She was judging and scoffing at everything I picked up. I believe her name was Lucile? Not sure. And it didn't stop there, as I tried to purchase the items I wanted, the owner was quite rude and slapped my hand as I reached for the stuff I thought I had purchased and had a snarky smile on her face and said: "no no no." She was obviously trying to humilate me. The service was horrid. They had torn and rough clothing there and it was not much time left in them. They are over priced for the value. After all is said and done, Uptown Cheapskate is trash and will not take business there again. Save yourself. read more

I'm not sure why everyone is hating on it... the customer service isn't even bad in my opinion! One of my number one spots to find clothes, there's a lot of variety and most of it's trendy and can apply to a lot of different styles: so it's not just boutique-y or all athletic wear, all ages can shop here! It's not too expensive, but it's not thrift it's consignment so it makes sense for it to be on the "expensive" side of used clothes. People in reviews are mad because they "wouldn't accept clothes," but it makes sense because it's mainly teen who shop there and they want to keep up with the trends. The selection of clothes is great. They have a lot of name brand items, especially Arie. I've been into the Lex location about 3-4 times now and every single time the front desk customer service has been so rude! The staff at back fitting rooms have always been kind to me and helped me as I needed. But after experiencing a sell and buying clothes from the store itself, I would definitely say it's for the thick skinned. The way they talk to their customers is very demeaning. Also if you're looking to sell here, I wouldn't!! I bought a pair of white cargo pants from this location. At home I have the same pair of pants just in a smaller size, so I decided to sell the smaller size, but they wouldn't take it. Today was my first experience here, and the bottom line is that it's literally the same thing as Plato's Closet or Clothes Mentor, except it's owned by the same people as a Kid 2 Kid in Brighton Place. I was really impressed by the number of high-end brands I saw as I was just casually looking through the racks, but I was on the hunt for something really specific so I didn't spend a ton of time perusing. What I will say is the way the shoes are organized is very unfortunate. They run along the top of each of the freestanding clothes racks and are identified by size on the end caps, but they also have random shoes thrown on top of circular racks elsewhere throughout the store, so if you're looking for something very specific like I was, you have to go look in a multitude of places. They also have a number of cute styled displays above the racks along the walls, which are honestly super cute, but I feel like it's going to be hard to sell that merchandise because unless you're going to get an employee to get things down for you right that second, you're going to glance up and see it and forget about it. These displays also gave me one more place I had to walk around the store and look for the shoes I was trying to find. The cashier was super nice, and they were running a sale (which the item I ended up purchasing was not a part of), but I would definitely go back for just casual browsing again. read more

They only want name brand clothes and even then if they don't deem the item cute or in style, despite being in perfect condition, they won't take it. I'm sure this place is great if you want name brand clothing for less, but I would never donate here again. They clearly aren't in it for helping others. read more

The customer service is a joke. It's a bunch of younger people working there that seem to have no clue what they're doing. I overheard them talking about some of the customers that were shopping, they were laughing and making fun of them. Then I overheard them talking about trying to find someone's sell items they had misplaced. My experience was about the same as some of the other reviews, sad, sorry, and very poor!! They seemed as if they were bothered by people asking them questions or wanting help. The supposed manager or at least that's what she claimed her title was had a horrible attitude the entire time I was there waiting. She wasn't friendly at all and literally had a rude facial expression the entire time she spoke to me. I think if she did smile her face would have cracked and fell apart LOL! I will never step foot in this store again. To whomever is the franchise owner is for this location I feel for you!! I entered the store at 11:23am to sell clothes and exited at 12:37pm. They do not allow you to leave the store while they are sorting clothes, no matter how many people are in front of you in line. They have 2 chairs for waiting and both were occupied during my wait. They have one person doing an initial sort and then they hand them off to another who looks up each item in their computer. The person on this day doing the sort was a boy who was either a late teen or early 20s and he did not know brands. He rejected multiple items from Evereve (Alison Joy, Cloth & Stone, Sanctuary) that are currently in that store across the road from this business, priced at $50-70 each. He also rejected BHWM, Altar'd State, Anthro and items from local boutiques from this year, And then the items he did accept were the weirdest and ugliest things that I almost didn't include. So safe to say, this store will not stock high end brands if they aren't accepting them from sellers. I would never sell here again. read more

Workers were extremely nice. However, I brought in at least 20 items & they said they couldn't take any of it. Not a single thing. I brought in NWT jeans from Anthropologie and never worn jeans from Madewell. I also brought clothes from Target that are very trendy right now. Very upset. read more
