I've been going to UM to get my haircut for several years. It's a salon that has never cut corners on a single haircut I've received, which is probably somewhere close to 60 at this point. I've even been on time for one or two...ha. While they are very punctual with their time, they also are very accommodating and do try to make it work when I'm not. Very nice, personable staff & stylists on top of that. Their booking strategy changed with the pandemic; it used to be a no reservations, walk-ins only salon where sometimes you'd sit down immediately, sometimes you'd wait an hour+. Now it's an only reservations, no walk ins with a pretty easy booking process online. Oh yeah also, I mean the talent of the women who actually cut hair there is really, literally unparalleled in the market they're in. This place is *not* sports clips, hair cuttery or anything like that. Not even close. read more

If you're going to book here. book Josette. she is a saint and excellent at getting you the cut you desire. 5 stars to her and her only. I've been a repeat customer for 2-3 years just because of her. Book Josette The rest of the store however deserves this 1 star rating. I went through 2-3 barbers before Josette. the rest rush the cut and don't deliver quality cuts. the customer service/scheduling lady takes great pleasure in saying no to you and not being helpful at all. she has the worst attitude and does not give you a welcoming feeling when you walk in. The GM is not flexible and runs to his polices and does not accommodate repeat customers. I was late 11 minutes and he was ready to push me back and charge me even though I knew Josette would have been able to cut my hair in the allotted time. I didn't even have the chance to ask her. They were more set on sticking to their polices and losing a repeat customer(which is crazy when running a small business....) he's raised the prices by 40% since I've been there and got rid of a lot of discount perks with their products THEY DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR REPEAT CUSTOMERS. if it wasn't for Josette I would never step foot in this place again. they do not deserve my business after the encounters I've had with them. if I could, I would give every penny to Josette instead of this greedy and not welcoming environment they call Upscale Male read more

Love this place! All of the stylists at Upscale Male have been exceptional, and each has had more experience than my past three salons: Regis, Sports Clips, and Super Cuts. In between my cuts at Upscale Male, I went back to the other salons (I.e. Sports Clips) out of sheer convenience and I've regretted each thus far. Bad customer service. I Made an appointment for 9am w my son on a Wednesday morning. Running 5-10 min late as son was driving for his 16th birthday. Told them at 850 I would be a few minutes late. Place calls me at 9:05a asking me where I am at. I said sorry we are close at the light. At 9:09. I got called again while My son was in the lot parking the car. Insane! We walked in and the lady at the desk says, "yeah you're not going to be able to do any shampoo because it will push every appointment back." I said your kidding. You mean a few minutes screws up the whole day? I would be worried about the speed at which the stylists have to cut to be working under this regime! I've been going to Upscale Male now since summer of 2021. It's a little out of my way, but the quality of service I get makes up for the convenience of the Sports Clips that is maybe 10 minutes from me. Besides, last time I went to Sportsclips I ended up waiting a hour before being put in a chair.... Booking an appointment is a breeze on their site. I don't really have a go to stylist, but every cut I have had I left UM more than pleased and looking fresh. I will often get compliments on my haircut. The atmosphere of the salon is awesome. You will immediately be pleasantly greeted either by a host or one of the stylist getting you checked in. The waiting area is spacious and quite luxurious with large comfy leather chairs dotted along the windows with large TV centered in the lobby. Don't get too comfy though because I don't think I have ever waited more than maybe 15 minutes to get in a chair. Every stylist I have had was exceptionally attentive to my needs and concerns. I have a bit of cowlick that has been difficult sometimes during cuts. The stylists at UM knew exactly how to remedy my difficult cowlick and make the issue a non issue. Glad I found this gem. Been in Naperville forever started going to this gem of a place recently. This is a great place for great haircuts. Here are few reasons why 1. Book ahead online (not just same day) super convenient no wait in line. Go 5 min early get a cut and you are done in 30 to 40 min. 2. Excellent ambiance, great people at front desk, updates via text about your appt. etc 3. Now comes the most important part - overall experience and the cut, it's great - my stylist Julia is great, she knows what I want as I sit on that chair, she just makes sure and then goes ahead with the cut which is great. I'm giving this place 2 stars because of the ambiance, quality of the haircut and the other stylists engaging with their clients. However, i can not look past my own experience in the rating. I have just moved here and have been searching for a semi-high-end place for a guy to get a professional haircut. The online interface was informative and helpful in booking a first time appointment. When i entered the establishment, the host or maybe Manager, politely greeted me and checked me in. Moments after that, my stylist Krissy, coldly came and got me. I immediately sensed she was in a bad mood. She asked what we were doing today. I gave her some details that i thought would help and she responded in a very demining tone, "ok, those are really generic details that don't help me at all. What number guide? What kind of hair style?" I was pretty caught off guard...I'm not a hairstylist so i don't know the answers to a lot of those things. I almost just called it right there and left but i needed the cut. She was extremely cold the rest of the cut. When she needed my head moved to the side or forward she would take her index finger and slam it forward. There wasn't an ounce of small talk or anything(which i am fine without but geez, sometimes some talk is needed to get job done.) She cut my hair like she was double parked and finally it was over. The whole thing was almost comical! Her co-workers were laughing and engaging with their clients...I had "stylist-envy"! I honestly had to think if i had done something to this woman i didn't know about! I am guessing she was just having a bad day or didn't like my look...either or, it was palpable. I had signed up for the cut and shampoo. She asked at the end like a painful formality if i "still wanted the shampoo"...i just wanted to get the heck outta there and declined. She gave me some robotic speech about notes in the system then walked away leaving the register person to ring me up. Unfortunate, because it looks like Krissy has a number of positive reviews. Trust me, i would of wished for nothing more but that is not what i got. The haircut itself was pretty good, so no complaints there. However, there are many more men's salons in the area that give out good haircuts and your not treated like crap. Bummer...wanted it to work. Peace! read more

I wanted to add an updated review now that I've been going here for awhile. Stylists are all friendly and do a great job. Appointments always on time. They use and sell quality American Crew products. Nice facility, good parking, and convenient access to main roads. Popular with all ages. I highly recommend. Also, I just got my hair cut by Vanessa and she is great. Lastly, the owner seems to really care about the business, regularly monitoring and replying to social media reviews. Visited Upscale Male while visiting my parents. I was impressed with the precautions they took for COVID; essentially you text the location from your car and they let you know when to come in and uon entering they ask you sanitize your hands and wear a mask at all times. Overall the process was seamless. I showed the stylist examples of how I usually have my hair cut and she nailed it and also recommended a new styling product which has worked really well. I used to think Upscale Male was the bee's knees, and was a regular customer until recently. However, I had never been to an actual barbershop until then, either. Upscale Male is merely a rehash of the Great Clips, Hair Cuttery, etc. Business model. Rather than the easy-going banter of a barbershop, TV's are mounted from every conceivable wall space. I received the same cut I would at one of the other hair factories. The key point is that the stylists are not licensed BARBERS. Rather, they are all STYLISTS. There is a big difference when it comes to men's hair. Among other things, they do not offer straight razor shaves. They pretend to be barbers, but are not licensed to do so. Atmosphere is uptight and yuppy. There are several actual barbers in the area. For the classic barbershop experience, choose one of those instead. read more

The owner of the store greeted me and was very friendly. There were quite a few guys waiting but I was taken in about 10 minutes without an appointment. My stylist couldn't have been nicer. She was talented at hair cutting, a great conversationalist and she gave great shampoo ;) As far as price, this is not the cheapest place, in fact it is almost twice as much as one of the cheap assembly line shops but what you get is worth it. The cut is a scissor cut, precise and neat. You are never asked if you are a #4 or a #6 (what am I, a sheep?). It was my first time at Upscale Male as I normally get my haircut in the City. After reading the reviews I thought I would check it out and glad I did! Right from the start you're made to feel at home as the owner greets you and gets you checked in. The leather chairs, large screen tv, and wifi insure time passes quickly as you relax before your meeting your stylist. I had the pleasure of working with Britt. She is very nice, polite and has some serious skills. Every step of the way she asked questions or asked for feedback to ensure my hair was just as I expected. Just got my third bad haircut and this is by far the worst one yet. Started going here over a year ago when I moved out this way and loved it but they're hiring these girls that are butchering my hair. In September, the girl barely cut anything off the top and I didn't realize it until my fiancé said "I thought you were going for a haircut" when I got home. Last month the girl asked what we were doing and I said basically what's in the notes which is a 1 to a 3 fade and trim the top. There was definitely no fade, just straight up the side to the top and today was even worse. Started out asking what we were doing and again, I said what's in the notes. No fade, straight up the side to the top and no blend. I don't see the point of them taking notes and entering notes if they're going to ask me what I'm doing every time and then completely go against what's in the notes. You can find a lot better haircuts out there for a lot cheaper. read more

I was looking for a new place to get my hair cut because the previous person I was seeing I felt was getting lazy. So I search for a place that's semi close but specialized in men's cuts. That's when I found Upscale Male! Now I've read reviews about price and how this is not the cheapest. Might I remind you that you get what you pay for. You pay $5 for a haircut that's what your going to get . . . a $5 hair cut. Moving on to my experience: I called to make an appointment but found they didn't. Which at first I felt was a little stupid, but then quickly remembered I myself work in retail and understand that when you make appointments you're setting the expectation that your visit time will be right on time on the dot. Which we all know cannot always happen due to unforeseen events. So because i'm not going to die tomorrow it acceptable that I was going to be a walk in and have to wait. So no big deal, I came in as a walk in was greeted right away I think by the owner. Nice guy. The prices are laid out behind him. simple quick easy to read didn't have to read the entire menu or page though women's cuts . . . because they don't have any here, which made me instantly happy! Waited maybe 5 or 10 minutes and was off to get my hair cut. I've been here twice and the two ladies that I worked with were great. I really like that it's not just a shampoo that's quick and done. They actually massage your scalp and take time. I also LOVE that they use a blade on the back of your neck to get a closer shave!! Seems like they hire really talented people. Overall both times I came out happy / loved my cut. I'll definitely be going back. In my opinion it's well worth the price. I also enjoy that I didn't hear the "ladies / hens" clucking away as they get a perm or whatever woman get done with their hair. I didn't see any kids running around which was another plus ++ just saying. I'm 26, so by all means not an old grumpy man. I just don't like to be bothered by loud distractions. I took a gamble on this place after a botched haircut. Prices are market rate and the talent (at least the girl who cut my hair) was top notch. I had a lot to fix plus I have three unruly cowlicks. She did a fantastic job and gave me suggestions for a better hairstyle. I've been to several high end places in Chicago and this little shop in Naperville is better than most I've been to - especially for a first time visit when they don't now about you! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to any man looking for something more that a Supercuts haircut but not willing to make an appointment for a pricey barber. read more

I've been going to UM since they first opened in Aurora several years ago and have received great service for a very reasonable price. Their stylists are professionally trained, friendly and really listen to what you want for a haircut. I've seen Beth, Melissa, Allison, Heather and now Josette. I've been very happy with all of them. The quality of my haircuts has always remained high and I have never received a bad haircut in over 10 years. The owners (Murad and Stacy) are super nice as is the manager. Clients are always cheerfully greeted and made to feel welcome. I definitely recommend this place. read more
