The contact at Swanson's was easy to work with. The event was affordable and casual yet intimate. We picked the caterer. We hosted this event on December 30th so the colorful string lights felt perfectly festive! There is canned beer of varying prices (starting with some $1 beer, including the classic PBR) up to fancier craft beer ($3, $5, or $7) and you can pay with a card. They don't have food but their very salty popcorn is free. Inside, walls are covered in "vintage" local signs, making for some good conversation pieces. There are a couple booths on the wall, but it's mostly standing room unless you borrow a camping chair. Outside it looks liike to you're walking into a garage, but it does look like they have parking (wish I saw it before paying at the lot around the corner. With the Edison bulbs strung overhead, a wedding here would be very nice but be sure to ask about how long and how loud you can play music. There are clear garage doors that separate the indoor space from the covered patio area. They can't be opened without a city permit, so if you want to use them you'll need to look into this. The bathrooms are large. There is no refrigerator, but there is what I think was a warming cart, a sink, shelves, and a rolling cart in the kitchen area. Parking is tight. When we arrived, the tables inside and out as well as the chairs were covered with pollen. They don't provide any cleaning supplies so we had to get our own and do the cleaning ourselves. When we viewed the property the day before, I thought for sure everything would have been cleaned as part of the price. Wrong! As we were cleaning the chairs they also had grease buildup so they hadn't been cleaned/sanitized in a while. We actually needed more tables but didn't find out until later that there were plenty of them in the upstairs area. The worst part of the evening was the person on duty. He was visibly unhappy to be there and unfriendly. He would only look at us but not speak. When my husband asked about trash bags (you might want to bring those, too) he threw a couple of them his way. As we were cleaning up, I apologized for the delay and he didn't even look at me. And then as we were leaving and I asked if we had gotten everything, he nodded and slammed the gate in our face. We were dumbfounded. I hope the owners realize this doesn't make for good business. I don't like leaving mediocre reviews unless they are deserved, and this one was.

Spending time along the Reedy River in Greenville is such a special experience. There are several…read morebeautiful spots to sit and relax, especially near the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, and the bridge is a wonderful place to stroll while enjoying the soothing sound of the river and waterfall. What makes it even more meaningful is the history behind it. Beginning in the late 1700s, water-powered industries clustered along the Reedy River, including trading posts, grist and corn mills, a sawmill, an ironworks, the Gower, Cox and Markley Coach Factory, a paper-making factory, and an armory. A century later, textile and apparel mills were established along its banks. Unfortunately, the mills discharged waste and excess dyes into the river, and the Reedy began to suffer from the spoils of progress. By the mid-20th century, downtown Greenville's stretch of the river was so severely polluted by upstream textile mills that the once pristine and popular falls became desolate and unsafe. Seeing how beautiful and vibrant the area is today makes you truly appreciate the restoration and revitalization efforts. It's peaceful, scenic, and rich with history -- definitely a must-visit when you're in Greenville. Cheers!

Modern, quiet hotel in a great location within walking distance of Falls Park, restaurants, and…read morebars, with a late-night cookie store right next door. We got the Pride & Joy Couples Package, which included the breakfast buffet for two (normally $16.50 per person, and Bonvoy Elite members do not get free breakfast), a bottle of champagne upon request, two cocktails at Paloma, valet parking (normally $28/night), and 2 p.m. late checkout. I now see a Romance Getaway package that looks similar but without the valet parking and late checkout. I recommend taking a screenshot of exactly what your package includes when you book. That way you can ask to have your bottle of champagne delivered and make sure you receive the vouchers for the free breakfasts and drinks. The valet parking was very convenient. I received a text that allowed me to request our car before we went downstairs. The breakfast buffet was really nice, European style (cold cuts with cheese), fresh fruit and berries, Chobani yogurt, pastries, eggs, spinach quiche, breakfast meats, and two made-to-order options for eggs or a waffle with strawberries and blueberries. You pour your own coffee, which is also available free even if you aren't eating at the restaurant. There is also a Nespresso Vertuo with the large pods and a milk frother. Service varied depending on who was working. Since you get your own coffee and food, there isn't much table service, and if you use the breakfast vouchers, you simply hand over the voucher and don't need to sign a receipt. Bring some cash if you want to leave a tip. On each floor is a Hydration Station with glass carafes you can fill with filtered water. At the AC Asheville, you had to ask Guest Services for a carafe, which I never did, so it was a nice convenience to have the carafes already there. Our room was a good size, with a couch and floor-to-ceiling windows. We had a good view overlooking the bar and restaurant square below. Important note: the sheer blinds really are sheer. Even when they are pulled across the windows, you can see into the room, so close the room-darkening curtains for privacy. There is also no nightlight, so you may want to bring your own for late-night bathroom trips. There is a coffee maker with a pullout tray and rectangular coffee packets. I thought the coffee tasted good, although perhaps it didn't have the full caffeine power I am used to. There was also a mini-fridge with two small bottles of water and glasses to use for the filtered water, plus electrical outlets and USB-A ports by the bed. There was a nice, little gym. We really enjoyed the hotel for its quiet rooms, convenient location, and easy access to downtown Greenville and Falls Park. The Pride & Joy package also made our stay a particularly good value, especially with the breakfast, drinks and valet parking included.

We checked into the AC Hotel in Greenville today after driving six and a half hours. Upon entering…read moreour room, we noticed a portable air-conditioning unit or fan. We initially assumed it had been provided for additional comfort. However, after returning from dinner, we found the room at 78 degrees, even though we had set the unit to 68. When we contacted the front desk, we learned that the room's air-conditioning system was not working. The woman at the front desk was very kind and understanding, and our frustration is not directed toward her. Rather, we are extremely disappointed that the hotel assigned us a room without functioning air conditioning and did not disclose this before we checked in. Had we been informed, we would not have accepted the room--particularly on a hot summer day in the South. We understand that mechanical problems occur, and we have no objection to paying a fair price for a quality hotel room. What is unacceptable is placing guests in a room with a known problem without notifying them beforehand. Providing a portable unit without explanation made the situation feel concealed rather than honestly addressed. As a Bonvoy member, I expected greater transparency and better treatment. If you are planning to stay at the Greenville property, make sure everything in your room--especially the air conditioning--is working properly before you settle in. This was not cool at all, literally or figuratively.
