Dr smith is always incredible. She sees both are kids at once as their bdays are close together…read more She follows the parents lead and I really appreciate that she typically recommends more natural options before jumping into prescriptions whenever appropriate. We first came to her after moving from out of state and our daughter has a very rare genetic condition. We had experienced medical neglect at a previous practice due to the providers pride and pretending to be an expert yet giving us conflicting information every visit (which were frequent). The first time I met doctor smith, she admitted to not knowing much about the condition, asked for me to share my knowledge after acknowledging that I likely knew a lot by that point as it was my child and our experiences. I was very appreciative of this!! She then referred us to experts to check specific things and communicated very well with said experts. She's a true advocate for her young patients and listens to parents so well. Also worth nothing that if you choose to follow traditional schedules or delay shots/opt out, this is a very supportive office regardless of choice.

I chose this practice because of the strong reputation of Dr. Stoltzfus. Unfortunately, Dr…read more Stoltzfus is now only part-time so your child must see other doctors in the practice. On two occasions, we had a bad experience with Dr. Castallan. He did follow up on the phone after my one week old's appt but then forgot about the follow up appointment he scheduled and left the practice right as we were pulling in 15 minutes early. We sat in the waiting area while the front desk called him to ask him if he was planning to return to see his patient that he scheduled. He didn't return and asked them to schedule us see another doctor instead because he forgot about our appt. Luckily we were able to see Dr. Stoltzful that day who is wonderful. Recently, he refused to see my child when we arrived 10 min late to an appt. The front desk checked us in and noted on file that we completed check in BEFORE the 15 min late policy but he still refused to see us. I understand issues with being late but when I asked to speak with someone because we clearly were checked in before their 15 min late posted policy, Dr. Castellan was the person to actually come out and speak with me. I'm disappointed that he chose to not see my child but still used that time to argue with me about needing to arrive early for appointments and had no answer to my posted policy question or to my question about why it was ok to make us wait in the reception area for over 20 minutes the other two times we did arrive early for appointments within the past two weeks. I think his priorities are misaligned with a truly caring pediatrician's priorities and as a result, we switched practices. The front staff here is wonderful though and super helpful but they're not doctors so we needed to switch to a more caring establishment.

I chose this office before my son was born, and I could not have chosen better. From his first…read moreappointment, I was confident in the care I knew this office was able to provide. They not only were invested in his thriving and well-being, but they also checked in on me, as a new, first-time mom. From the front desk, to the nurses in office, to the doctors, this entire team works together in such an efficient, and peaceful manner. This is an office who takes your calls, who listens to your concerns, and who makes sure you and your child are fully comfortable and on board through every step of the process. Their waiting room is always a hit with my little one, he loves the chalk wall they have. There is also a "sick" waiting room, which is something I really appreciate, this is to keep viruses away if possible. When my son was a newborn, and I was worried he may have RSV on a friday night- someone answered my calls here, they stayed on the phone with me (as I heard their own children in the background- commitment! This was after hours! ), and they had me send in a video of my baby's breathing /chest. We monitored it all night, and by the following morning (a saturday), my little as well as myself felt immensly better. He did not have rsv, but if he did, we had the BEST team to handle it. On his third birthday, he woke up with a very swollen eye, and I knew he could not have bumped it to cause this, as I am with him all day, and the bump was too intense for him not to have said anything. I called the doctors, was able to SEND PICTURES of the eye while on the phone, and was able to be booked in for an appointment with in 3 hours. I brought my little in, and he was greeted with such kindness and excitement, he forgot he was there over an eye situation. The entire team works together for these experiences. I can not stress this enough- this is QUALITY care. My little one was spoken to as if his voice also mattered, he was made comfortable with everything before they started any "check up", and, this is where I REALLY appreciate them, they informed me SO MUCH about what was going on. About what they thought, and about the plan for treatment. Dr younes showed me photos of other children (similar age) with similar looking eyes, he showed me some that were allergic reactions, and some that were infection. I have never had a doctor do this before, and being that this had to do with my baby, I couldnt have been more grateful at this time. Dr younes gave my child a dose of an antihistamine IN OFFICE, as well as SENT ME HOME WITH SOME! Again- I have just never had a doctor's office do these things! He told me to bring my child in the next morning, so that we could see how the eye was doing. Oh, he got a lollipop, too The next morning, the eye actually got a bit worse! But i knew that my baby was going to be okay- despite being hurt, as a mother, seeing my baby not all right. we got into the office, at this point, my child was really looking forward to going back, too, haha. The staff and doctors were so kind and empathetic to my child, and myself. And they promptly got on a differnet course of action. This was after my child showed off some toy cars and trucks he brought with him to the office, and the staff showed my child genuine interest in the cars being shown to them. When the doctor came in, he was confident and informative, and prescribed an antibiotic. He asked us to call in the following morning for follow-up, he explained to me what I should expect, told me what the antibiotic would be doing, and let me know if I had ANY questions or concerns to call. The next day, my childs eye was immensly better. Its been almost a week of his antibiotics, and the eye is healed up. We will be finishing his course of antibiotics, and my little one will be good to go. The care and concern that permeates throughout this entire office is strong, and it is SO appreciated. This is truly the BEST pediatric office in this town, id argue in the state, id go as far as to say the 6th Avenue altoona office could contend with the best in the country. This is the epitome of quality care, as a parent, we all should expect for our children. The 6th Avenue office meets all expectations, and is absolutely exceptional in their care. Thank you, team! Signed, a thankful, and grateful mother I have to add a special shout out to nurse nicole, who was our first nurse at the practice and she is still there to this day. The staff is wonderful, and each are deserving of such recognition
