UPMC's quality of care has unfortunately declined significantly -- not due to the dedication or skill of its physicians, but because of systemic inefficiencies. Radiology results are taking weeks, sometimes up to a month, to be finalized. Scheduling prescribed tests or imaging often requires extended hold times of 40 minutes or more, only to learn that appointments are unavailable or delayed for several additional weeks. Specialist appointments are frequently booked out two to four months in advance. The recent transition to a new records system has further complicated patient care. Important medical history and physician notes are often inaccessible, limiting continuity of care and leaving both patients and providers frustrated. This decline in operational performance has real consequences for patients' health and well-being. UPMC urgently needs to address these systemic issues to restore the level of care and efficiency that patients once trusted. read more

I was brought in for broken ribs and a concussion. The staff did not treat me any type of way due to my prior addiction. They treated me like I was human. They never judged me and they spoke to me about everything my medication my ribs, my addiction. When I was admitted into the hospital, PA Rebecca, nurse, Matt, and nurse Teresa, although that might not be her name she was an older lady who has been there forever. Was the kindest most respectful people I've ever met in the medical field. Harry, the director of nursing was amazing. he sat down and Had a conversation with me as though I was a human and not a recovering addict. very disappointed in UPMC. I understand the outpatient center is being remodeled and is under construction. However, it doesn't excuse a public restroom to be in such a filthy condition. I was appalled yesterday at the bathroom near the adult sleep center soon after you walk into the building. I understand many employers are short staffed. however it doesn't excuse a filthy restroom! I do recommend the Cancer center here! Dr. Wolf and the staff are amazing and very informative. However the image dept. inside is nice and great but, the nurse station really should learn proper educate in the hospital. The level Of inappropriate conversation is crazy! I have heard many different conversations that are just not appropriate and they are very loud! My wife has cancer and is not thrilled to be getting a port placed so the amount of laughing and inappropriate conversation is just not cool. read more

August 10, I went for a bebtelovimab injection for Covid 19. Michelle, who directed me via phone to the correct entrance and escorted me to the room was very kind and friendly. Melissa or Merissa, not sure of her name, who administered the IV and medicine, and observed me during the process was great! I never felt the prick of the IV! There was another lady present, don't remember her name, who was observing and very friendly as well. I would highly recommend this facility for this procedure. I have to say I was concerned about going to the East Shore for this but was surprised it only took about 20 minutes via route 83 to get to the hospital and the hospital is very near the exit for Union Deposit. read more

Absolutely unacceptable wait time! What kind of emergency room has a two hour window when there is no doctor or PA on site?! Let alone the fact that my wife checked in at 6:40 PM with severe kidney pain, received test results *by email* at 7 PM, but was not talked to or brought back until 6:25 AM the next morning!! OVER 11 HOURS LATER!! During this time, three different families - two with sick small children - just flat out left after 10 HOURS! This is not an "Emergency" Room, this is a migraine inducing social experiment to see who leaves before the staff deigns to see them. read more

I've been here since 10am it's now 7pm. My tests were done by noon but now I'm still sitting in the lobby at 7pm because there's no doctors. No one tells you anything unless you complain. At 5pm they said I was next. Now they say no one can see me. This is the worst experience I've ever had. I've watched dozens of people go in front of me so the no doctors or rooms is Bullshit. I've been to this ER on multiple occasions with family members and for myself. The care we've received has been great. The staff are friendly. Yes, there are wait times. When you or a loved one is sick, it is exasperating to see others treated first. In the patient rooms, they give you wait times for test results so you at least have a clue. Do some seem long? Sure. But as I've never, for example, read an MRI, I can't say that they're unreasonable. Bring a book, an ereader, a phone with games-something to help the time pass. You never know how many people are going to be there at a given time. read more

Arriving by ambulance, I was recently admitted through the ER, and was in desperate shape. The Doctors, Nurses and Staff were absolutely amazing. They quickly diagnosed that my kidneys had been compromised by a toxic reaction and formulated a plan of intervention that saved my life. First of all, all the nurses and doctors I met were wonderful and very helpful. This place lacks in leadership, process, and accountability. Within an hour of being there they actually called me back, got my vitals, inserted an IV, and gave me pain meds...and sent me packing back to the waiting room.... Three times, in my 5 hours of waiting in the waiting room, I observed a cleaning crew come thru. Figuring the bathroom MUST be clean, I was horrified when I opened the door, and found the rooms floor, wall, toilet, and sink covered in puke and fecal matter. Finally got back to the ER, where, by now the pain meds were wearing off. . Now, the doctor I spoke to was sure my situation needed a specialist at Harrisburg. I couldn't have agreed with them more. Then, as a plan was laid out to get me transported there and taken care of by an ear nose throat person, OBSERVATION came down, and changed everything, and said that I could lay there till the meds kicked in and see how I react. After JUST BEING TOLD THAT THEY ARENT A EAR NOSE THROAT SPECIALIST! I can assure you, Peritonsillar abscess, when I can not swallow my own saliva, and shown on a CAT SCAN, is NOT a sit and wait kind of situation. I then laid and waited while they tried to get meds in me, which between 9pm-and 8am they forgot to give me either the anti inflame, or the pain meds, or gave me meds that i expressed many times was not helping. At about 9 or 10am the doctor was back in surprised I was still there! Checked my file, and got me the meds that I needed and within 2 hrs I was feeling GREAT!.....so, they took me up to OBSERVATION to watch me... SERIOUSLY, what kind of scam is this? Observation, where, they put you in a room, and close the door. Check your vitals every two hours? Not to mention the paperwork they give you as soon as you get there about not being an inpatient, or admitted, and you must check with your provider to see if this supposed service is even covered by your insurance This man contradicted my doctors orders, failed at giving me the medications I required, and when I finally did get them to release me which I had to threaten to walk out with or without the IV in me, his choice, he sent my prescriptions towards Lancaster.....I live towards Gettysburg.....He DID offer to cancel and redo them, but hey, at that point I was better off running after them instead of relying on him to do anything correct or remotely helpful to me. As it is, Ive been home a few hours, the pain meds he suggested aren't really working, and I'm just hoping I can make it thru tomorrow so I can get the help I needed to start with at the other Harrisburg hospital read more

Visited the ER here last week after a kitchen accident & never again would I seek medical attention there!!! I'm not sure that I would go to ANY pinnacle health hospital after my experience. Although it was busy the front check-in people & triage nurses did a good job of keeping up with the flow & getting everyone processed quickly, as well as handle situations that arose in the waiting area. Front end staff is where the professionalism & compassion ended!!! I was taken to the "quick unit" as staff referred to it. I never saw a Dr or Rn just LPN's & PA's (that by itself isn't an issue of mine.) The PA was VERY brash & plain rude at times. She had no concern for my comfort levels, my understanding or anything else. She didn't bother to explain treatments or reasons for them as she did them. I was left alone with a treatment in place with no type of call bell or way to reach out to staff for attention. By far the WORST medical care I have ever witnessed or received!!!! read more

Husband explained to the person who was in charge to do the test of what my allergies are and the person was going to disregard my allergies, ignore them and go ahead administer the red dye which if the person did that I would of ended up in the emergency room from an severe allergy reaction. I was clearly de-prioritized because my health issue, which was open wounds, didn't measure up. Front desk said they took more serious cases first. Normally I would understand but I watched several people who came in after me get called back long before me- they appeared to be ok (not that they didn't have an issue but they looked fine, not trauma patients, not violently ill, etc). I sat in the waiting room for 2 1/2 hours and one of those hours I was completely alone in the waiting room. When I was finally seen I was out in less than a half a hour. My issue was easy enough to treat but also I needed to take care of it right away and not wait until morning as this was night. I suppose I got what I needed (?) but they didn't clean it just administered and prescribed meds and gave a tetanus shot. However they could have taken me in the order I arrived, given that no one in the waiting room with me was bleeding to death or vomiting or looked sick otherwise and provided treatment to me in a more appropriate and timely manner. The only person that has been taken to the back to see a Dr was some guy laying on the floor who was telling her he'd been waiting for 3 hours himself and they had better just inject him with something to kill him, because that was the only relief he'd find here. Good suburban hospital. Good service but it does lack a few departments that it's larger sister hospital, Harrisburg Hospital has. Overall it's pretty slow paced,easy, comfortable hospital whether you're a doctor, volunteer, or patient. read more

My husband just walked out of the outpatient lab. He was to get his Pro Time checked and has had a standing order for several years. Instead of explaining that they would have to call to get it renewed the receptionist copped and attitude and said there was no order and she was not registering him. He spoke to the manager and didn't get any better service. Needless to say we won't be going back there. This is the second time we walked out of that hospital due to the attitude of the personnel. They desperately need some training in dealing with patients. read more

This place is incredibly annoying...they take forever to take you back i was there for 4 hours without being seen...then not to mention, i came in for lower back, abdominal, and a painful urination...obviously thats not normal...soooo...they run all these test on me a CAT scan and said they were going to do anpwlvic exam which they never even didn..they said everything was normal no STDS (which better not be or me and my boyfriend are gonna have a problem) but, so i tell them im in a lot of pain and my chest is starting to hurt...they tell me that becauer im not 80 years old that my chest dosn't really matter cause im 22...they tell me no appendicitis or anything but that dosnt me it wont happen this could just be early signs...so in my opinion i feel that they should have at least kept me overnight to monitor the pain...not to mention i went in with a fever of 100.8 and ny heart rate was 180...they said they were gonna do an ekg and never did...so they didnt do the pelvic nor the ekg...seems like they're skipping important steps...before i got discharged they switched my doctor whom never came back to check on me...i also asked what my temp was when I first came in they never came back and told me...next time, i will not be going to this hospital, ill be going to hershey.!! BEWARE!! If I could give a negative number, I would. I sat in the nearly empty emergency room, bleeding from a miscarriage for an hour without even getting into triage because the intake nurse "was out to lunch". Then, I sat for nearly 2 more hours before I went out to the parking lot and called an ambulance to take me to another hospital. When they heard the call go out over the scanner, they CALLED THE COPS ON ME to have me removed from their property. I almost needed a blood transfusion from the loss of blood. read more

Attempted to check myself in for depression. When they ordered me to strip in a room with no door and in view of most of their staff, I objected. That's when they forced me to the ground with a knee on my neck, then pinned me against the wall in a chokehold, literally tearing my shirt off, strapping me to a restraint bed, and injecting me with a sedative. I've been to this ER a few times since moving to PA. They're usually not the nicest but this time was completely awful. I took my son in for pain he was having due to a sinus infection. It was like pulling teeth to get the nurses to do anything. The DR was ok, but not much better. I had to go out to let them know he was in excruciating pain and Monica, the nurse looked at me as if I was bothering her. She finally came in to check him. I had to go back to ask them to remove his BP sleeve, IV, & pulse ox so he could go to the bathroom and I had to ask them to come back to put him back on after he was done. She came and didn't even bother to put the BP sleeve back on. His BP was elevated due to his pain and it needed to be monitored. When I asked the nurse if his BP was normal or was it elevated due to the pain. She spoke to me as if I was completely incompetent. I was in total disbelief! I advised her I was well aware how the BP worked and that I was simply confirming it was elevated due to pain as it seemed to high to be his norm. She almost let me son, leave without confirming an alternate medication for the prednisone was given. I asked her if the medication was give to him. She responded very nonchalantly saying "I don't know." I asked her to please confirm with the doctor as I need to know so I don't go home and give it to him again. She again acted as if I was bothering her. The staff at the nurse's station were so busy engaging in personal conversations, they were neglecting their patient. I was employed with Pinnacle and I was always told patients come first! That was not the case today. I spoke with the nursing manager & Dr. Carson Adams after my visit, letting them know I was completely dissatisfied and I've never been treated so poorly by medical staff. Something needs to change. They managed to get my sons pain under control but they were not the nicest while doing so. I'm sure other patients have experienced the same. Also, when the tech took my son back for an X-Ray, she so unprofessionally asked if my hair was real! Would she have asked a white woman this question??? I think not. That staff is in need of some customer service training and some diversity training so they know how to conduct themselves around different races, etc. read more

Terrible hospital experience and would not recommend. I came in with stomach pains, difficulty breathing and weak/coldness in my arm, after calling my dr's office and they suggested going to the ER. I have not yet been seen for over 4+ hours. I really wish that I would have chosen an urgent care and won't ever use again. The only response on an estimated time after sitting in the waiting room for three hours was "we can't tell you anything - all the beds are full and ambulances keep coming". Waiting over four hours with an indefinite timeframe does not seem like quality urgent care. read more

I went here for an xray and was lost the entire time. Some of the signs are gray and others are colored. What does that even mean???? The xray signs are labeled radiology on some and imaging on others. I was confused on which signs to follow. I'm no medical professional... I dont know what the dif is. An update on a previous review I wrote. My wife, who was in severe pain from a hernial, was given pain meds and told to make an appointment with a surgeon several days later because her pain, which they said the CT scan showed was caused by fat protruding into the hernia, did not indicate emergency surgery. When she finally had her surgery more than a week later at another hospital the surgeon found that it was not fat, but part of her bowel that was protruding into the hernia, and he said he could see why she was in such pain! You can be sure we won't be going back to Community General. read more
