My small publishing business needed some boxes of animal cards to be re-shrinkwrapped. We brought…read morein about 350 boxes after being assured by Chris, the sales rep, that they could do the job and "did shrinkwrapping all the time." Several days later I stopped in to pick up 10 cartons of 32 decks in each carton, which I took back to the office. We went through the boxes and found so, so, so many decks that were unusable because the shrink wrapping had enormous holes, especially along the seams, so that the shrink wrapping didn't wrap around the box. I called Chris to explain. She assured me they would exercise great quality control on the rest of them. I was unable to use more than half of the first set of 10 cartons because the shrink wrapping not only had holes but was so crumpled, folded and massively wadded that in some cases you couldn't read the title of the product. I didn't expect perfection but did expect the shrinkwrapping to be good enough to be able to resell our product to stores and to Amazon. Because Chris reassured me so much, I asked them to go forward with the rest of the order. About a week later I went to pick up the cartons and we started going through them in the lobby. Out of about 15 cartons containing 480 decks, I could only find 9 usable decks. At one point a man appeared in the lobby and pulled Chris, our sales rep, away. When she returned her entire demeanor had changed to one of unfriendly disdain. She told me that Rhodesco couldn't do the job "to my satisfaction," as if my standards of just wanting the shrink wrap to surround the box in a flat, unobtrusive way without holes you could put your thumb through was a problem. At no point did the owner (identified as such by Chris) ever come back out, shake my hand and introduce himself, or apologize for the poor quality of the work. He hid in his corner office. Rhodesco did offer to remove all the bad shrinkwrapping; three days later I picked up all the cartons. I took my cartons to a wonderful print shop in Denver, who shrinkwrapped a whole carton of 32 boxes on the spot. Each one was perfect. We showed the owner some of the bad ones from Rhodesco. He laughed and said they didn't know how to run their machine and also had the heat turned up too high. Chris, the sales rep, was originally friendly and pleasant and I had hopes of working with them on some direct mail pieces. Maybe they are good at that, but beware if you want more quality than they offer -- you will suddenly become like gum stuck on the bottom of the uncaring owner's shoe.
