I was so lucky to get selected to work two summers at BCHC, two decades ago, and have kept in touch with the camp and remained a donor and FAN of the camp's work for the last 29 years. Full disclosure: I did not have a child enrolled here, so I not reviewing the camp as a camper nor a parent of a camper. I do have a child with special needs, and I would absolutely send my child to this camp, but my child is too old now as their disability occurred later in life. I am reviewing the camp as someone who had the honor and great joy of working as a therapist with the 200 campers and the nearly 200 staff members for 8 weeks full-time one summer and 10 days another summer, when I returned as a guest therapist to help with evaluation week. The care the staff provides to the children is exceptional: compassionate, dedicated, enthusiastic, and highly-skilled and detail-oriented. The facility is huge. It is beautiful and comfortable. The "Big House" is the most joy-filled gathering spot where all staff and campers eat together, every meal, every day... unless they are on camp-outs which happens and is so exciting for everyone. Songs, games, arts, swimming in the pool, hikes down to to Lake Superior, and of course, lots of time doing things to help with children achieve their individual therapy goals. When I was there Bay Cliff offered PT, OT, Speech, and audiology, plus there was a full-time nurse, and visiting dentists. They may have added more services, too. It was life-changing for me and I am sure many other counselors, cooks, therapists, maintenance workers, and administrative staff who were so honored to get a job here for a summer.

They killed my father. He had an pacemaker put in at a nearby hospital and was transferred to Medilodge of Munising for a week or two of physical therapy to regain his strength. My father had been in the hospital for about nine days so this made sense to us. He was met with hostility and negligence from the start at Medilodg. He repeatedly asked for help getting to the bathroom. No one came so he was forced to pee in a towel or on the bed frequently. They did not clean him and they refused to give him a bed pan or pee can telling him he would have to get to the bathroom himself. If he were able to do that, he wouldn't have needed to be at Medilodge for pt! He had no bed sores on admittance. When he left he had bed sores in his backside. The physical therapist was hostile and demanded he do exercises his cardiologist instructed him NOT to do. When father pointed this out the therapist said either do it or we'll write that you are refusing treatment then Your insurance will refuse to pay and we'll bill you directly. We pleaded with Medilodge NOT to falsify medical records. My father never refused treatmen. They also told him to get into bed from a chair. He asked for help. They refused and told him if he didn't get in the bed as he was told then they would record that he was refusing treatment. He didn't refuse! He only asked for help. When he could not get up without help they again stated that he was refusing treatment. The physical therapist came again and demanded he do the exercise the cardiologist told him not to do and if he didn't do it, then they record him as refusing treatment. They threatened to bill them the entire amount as insurance won't pay if Medilodge states my father refused treatment. My Dad was worried about his house being taken from him due to the financial/legal threat. So he tried to do what the physical therapist told him. That's when things completely tanked. After attempting the exercise he became I'll, his oxygen level dropped critically low then he was rushed to the hospital where he died. Within a few days Medilodge sent my mom paperwork to sign. They wanted my mom to sign papers that said she agreed not to sue them! They knew they killed him and were trying to protect themselves. A few months later my mom requested my Dad's medical records. Medilodge said they would only give them to her if she agreed not to sue them. That's illegal. 4 requests for medical records were made by our family and they refused. By law records must be provided within 30 days. They never did provide them to us. They falsified medical records. What else did they do to him that we don't know about? How many other deaths are they responsible for? He was only supposed to be there a short time. Due to the negligence of Medilodge my father ended up dead. They put making a dollar above all else even if that causes death. This is my opinion based on my experience with Medilodge of Munising. If you love your family member and want them to be treated with dignity and respect and you want them to live, do NOT go here. If your goal is to hasten their death, well then Medilodge of Munising likely is a good option--in my opinion. Shame on Medilodge! You've been warned.

Almost every staff member there did their job above & beyond. They we're all so caring and compassionate. I enjoyed all the aides, therapists, activity staff, kitchen & janitorial, and in general everyone there. All of the workers we're 5 star to me with some shining stars such as: Britney, Laura, William, & Sarah. The nurses on my favorite list we're Penny, and Jim & his wife. All of physical & occupational therapists we're awesome. My stay was such a great experience that it felt more like a vacation. If you have a choice in the Marquette area, pick this facility.
