I saw this striking piece outside the entrance to the Belk Heart Institute. It is one piece that makes up the entrance to the parking area and is very hard to miss.
Around 9 to 10 feet tall, the polished steel is part of Bob Doster's "Wind and Wave Series" and it is a beautiful piece of art. It looks like a ream of paper that got caught in a breeze, flowing and turning. I was able to reach out to the artist who explains, "[It] inspired by time spent on the beach watching the waves also by riding the wind in gliders in my teens. Each of my series is like a limb of a tree as the tree of my life grows more branches form by me creating ideas in sculptural forms."
From the website, "For more than fifty years, Doster has created art that ranges from whimsical collectibles to monumental public works of art. As a teaching artist, he has worked with more than 150,000 students of all ages."
You need to stop by and see it.
