I recently took a cooking class here and had the best time! Everyone washes their hands and gets a quick safety briefing before you get started. Each station is equipped with everything you need, but additional seasonings are available. The recipes are on the table and your group will divide and conquer to cook the full meal. Once everything is done the staff will put your meal on serving platters and bring them to you all to enjoy family style. I went solo and there were couples, families, and other solo participants attending. I would go with a group or solo again! They do have alcoholic beverages available for purchase. My husband likes bourbon so we went to their bourbon and bites event that is held the second Sunday of each month. For $20 you get their signature old fashion and can grab snacks from their grazing table. Each month they have a different bourbon company they are spotlighting and have a menu with food owns you can try as well as signature old fashions. The signature old fashion is great, one of the best I've had! For food options my husband and I got the lobster roll & lamb slider so we could taste both. The food was great of course!! We also tried their seasonal old fashion s. I ordered the spring blossom & my husband got the cherry blossom. I enjoyed the cherry blossom more. The spring was good but the lavender put me in the mind of tea, my husband traded with me lol. Definitely a great spot for bourbon lovers, they have an extensive menu of different bourbons that are available either via flight or individual tastings. My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Italian date night class. I did not get pictures of everything, but the food we made all came out very well. I loved the pasta and the risotto the most. Chef James was an excellent instructor. Although parts of the cooking felt chaotic, it was still very fun and he was there to answer any questions. Making the pasta was probably our favorite part! Chef James taught us a couple bonus shapes besides the ravioli so those were fun to try. Reason for minus one star: Our menu for the night included tiramisu & cannolis as dessert. It was on the website and on the TV in the class. However, we were never provided cannolis and did not make them. When I asked Chef just said he wasn't aware we were supposed to get them... Recently attended the Cajun cooking night. I was really impressed with how organized they were. All the tables were set when we entered and all of the mini cooking kitchens were set up with the ingredients. You don't cook alone, you cook with the people on your team. Which happens to be the table that you're sitting with. After the demonstration we were allowed to cook on her own, however, you had staff meandering around providing assistance where needed. My friend invited me to go attend a cooking class at Untamed Chef. That day we were cooking Cuban cuisine. Chef James was our instructor. He was so nice and patient. What I liked is that not only does he show you how to do certain things but he also explained WHY you do those things. I found that to be really useful. In class, you are put into groups (if you aren't with a larger party already) and you work together to make the dishes. You go by the recipes and they already have a lot of the ingredients grouped together and labeled for you. Some things were already made for you to save. At the end, you sit with your group and share the food you all made family-style. Everything was delicious! And we made so much that we all got to take our leftovers home. My husband appreciated that. It was a great time and they do so many different types of food classes that I think we will do another one that interests us. read more

With so many classes to choose from (they fill up fast, so don't wait if you have your eye on a particular one!), I opted for the Tex-Mex class because I've always wanted to master the art of making Birria Tacos. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and directed to grab a menu and find our table. The venue offered complimentary water and tea, with a selection of alcoholic beverages available for purchase. We opted for the refreshing water and tea to keep us hydrated and focused on our culinary adventure. Once everyone had arrived, including our double-date couple, we were organized into groups of four. If you didn't come with a full group, no worries! Chef Mary and her team will seamlessly paired you with other duos, creating a lively atmosphere for the 20 participants. While the five cooking stations felt a bit cozy, it only added to the fun of the experience! Chef Mary kicked things off by explaining our menu and the order of operations, and then we dove right into preparing our meals. Each group shared the delicious bounty, and trust me, there was plenty to go around--everyone was able to leave with a doggy bag! Chef Mary and her staff were simply amazing, circulating to offer guidance while allowing us the freedom to explore our cooking skills. A few steps were prepped ahead of time, like the marinated Birria meat (which takes 6-8 hours, so wise move there!), making the process smooth and enjoyable. The recipes were straightforward, and our group worked like a well-oiled machine to create a delightful feast. When the cooking wrapped up, we set our tables and sat down to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Chef Mary and her team took care of everything else, even providing to-go boxes for any leftovers. Chef Mary's personable nature kept us entertained throughout the class, while her staff was quick and attentive, ensuring everything ran smoothly. If I could suggest small tweak, it would be for Chef Mary to ask attendees to stay at their stations during demonstrations. A few times, it became a bit crowded around her table, which was a minor distraction. Also, my husband mentioned he'd appreciate a chair next time due to his past injuries--definitely something to consider for future classes for those with disabilities! Lastly, I'd love to see a weekly or monthly homeschool class for kids, just like her wonderful summer programs. Overall, our experience was nothing short of amazing, and we can't wait to return! My husband, parents and I came together for a double date dessert night and had the best time! We started out by enjoying a potato soup with rosemary and delicious accompaniments to add on our own, a bright salad with berries and homemade balsamic dressing, and some fresh honeydew melon. It was perfectly filling before an evening of preparing our desserts, and there was plenty for everyone. Our class of ten soon split into two groups after a short intro/demo on the first few steps of making the recipes. We were each given a booklet with the steps to make the desserts, some of which were completed for us (such as putting items in the oven or cooler). As a group, we moved through multiple recipes simultaneously based on a posted guide to the order of operations. Of course, Mary walked around and made herself available for any questions or guidance. I liked how the class was more free-flowing and not overly structured - while still staying on schedule. We made the following desserts: Chocolate Espresso Mousse, Classic Pastry Cream, Traditional Napoleon, Lemon Blueberry Phyllo Soufra, Peanut Butter Mousse Pie, and Nutella Malasadas After the obligatory tasting at the end, we all got to take home a pizza box worth of leftovers to enjoy later! My favorite was the peanut butter mousse pie, but everything was wonderful and it was super satisfying that we got to prepare almost all of it ourselves. Mary and her assistant were knowledgeable, personable, and made for a very professional cooking experience. These classes are the perfect way to enjoy time with loved ones, explore a passion or curiosity for a "treat yourself" night, or just to get out of your comfort zone with an activity you probably haven't done before. My boyfriend and I took a cooking class here in Feb 2024. We didn't really know what to expect considering there aren't many places in Hampton Roads that offer this type of experience but we figured it was something different to try out and we both love to eat! The class we chose was "Homemade Italian Stuffed Pasta". We arrived to a very full parking lot so make sure you get there 10-15mins ahead of time so you're not rushing like us. Most of their classes are offered in the evening time so the nearby bar and dance studio also have a lot of customers around that time. The inside studio has a simple layout with dining tables when you first walk in and a display table with the night's theme and some appetizers to snack on while you wait for the class to begin. That was a nice touch especially because the bruschetta, olives, and crackers really hit the spot! They get you in groups of 4 and you might get separated from your partner (if you get there late) so definitely try to get there early to try to find another pair to team up with. There are class options that you can chose for date night which guarantee that you will stay together. I think this would be a really fun thing to do with a group of girlfriends but 4 seems to be the magic number! Our class did have a few people who came as individuals, so don't let it scare you. My boyfriend has allergies to shellfish and tree nuts so I took that into account when booking the class. I tried to pick one where those would likely not be present. I also emailed the business a few days beforehand to let them know. They were very accommodating and even paired us up with another person with a shellfish allergy. I would recommend if you have any dietary restrictions to email them before booking and see which class option would be best menu wise. However, the classes do seem to fill up rather quickly especially around holidays like Valentine's Day! They were very accommodating with his allergies and took necessary precautions to make him feel safe. Now let's get into the cooking! Chef Mary begins the night with a run down of what to expect and demonstrates a few techniques with the ingredients you will be using. She had two other staff with her to help prep and keep things running smoothly. They were all very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the night. For the class we took, it was a little choppy in terms of structure and layout of the order of what to do. They give you a recipe booklet (to take home with you too) with step by step instructions but we did have to ask a lot where things were located in the kitchen such as spices or cream. I suggest they mention where to find the extra ingredients before they send us off to cook. I assumed everything we needed would be at our stations. I think the times I felt confused throughout the night on what to do next was because of the nature of the meal. Per Chef Mary, two people from each group needed to be making pasta all night to ensure each group had enough to eat and that we could alternate spots. I felt like we needed more guidance on what dish we should be working on because it was a three course meal but the main course had various components such as multiples types of sauces. Or maybe I had it in my head that they would provide more guidance to the class as a whole. We did have to wait for certain areas that only one group could use at a time such as the stove top burner and large pot to boil our pasta. With five groups rotating through that station it can take awhile especially since we were the last group to go. Big serving platters were available so it really felts like a family dinner. It was hard (not impossible) to take pictures/videos during the class but afterwards you can definitely get some nice shots of your meal. Not everyone chose to eat in the studio but they offer containers to bring food home. I was very grateful for that! The staff was working hard cleaning up while we ate and they got to eat too after we were all done. The class was approx 3 hours and ran right on time and even ended a little early if you didn't want to eat your meal there. There were two dispensers with ice water and sweet tea available to everyone. Alcoholic drinks (beer, wine, seltzers) were available for purchase throughout the night but since we came right at the start of class we missed the announcement about that. Overall, we had a very good time and everyone was very helpful and encouraging! I would definitely recommend this business to friends to try out whether it be with your girlfriends or significant other! I could see myself bringing my mom here too. read more

My darling surprised me with a Hawaiian cuisine class for my birthday and it was such an amazing experience! Chef Mary started with telling us about her trip to Hawaii, which inspired this class. I could tell she put a lot of heart and research into it. Chef Mary and Emily were a huge help during and made the whole class very fun. I'm not the best in the kitchen and typically get overwhelmed, but it was a relaxed and patient environment. It helped that everyone broke out into separate tasks and in the end, we all put the dishes together. I learned a lot of helpful cooking tips that I'll take into my home kitchen. Our instructors were very patient even though I wasted a few eggs while trying to make the loco moco and my partner lit a chicken skewer on fire! At the end, it was great tasting the dishes and even better that there were tons of leftovers to take home. This experience really made this birthday extra memorable for me.
