my insurance responding that one of the twin dentists at this office is in network & one is out of network, which they failed to disclose
Michelle N.

UPDATE: Dentist reached out to offer me a refund if I took down the review. When I said I would leave it up, he reneged. He said since I signed some documents without reading the fine print, I'm to blame for my experience. That may be partially true, but everyone I interacted with during my care deliberately responded to my questions around insurance and coverage vaguely, which leads me to believe they do not have their patients' best interests at heart. The onus shouldn't be on patients to triple check that they aren't being deceived by their caregivers. Leaving out important details to intentionally misrepresent the truth is lying by omission. Clearly with the plethora of 1 star reviews I'm not the only one who feels this way. I hope they change their shady practices so that someone else who might not be able to afford $500 x-rays won't fall victim to this scam. ---- I didn't do my due diligence in researching a dentist and only picked the closest one listed on Delta Dental's search tool for "In-Network Providers". I'd never had a bad experience with dental care providers in my life so I was naive & trusted that all dentists on the system would be operating in good faith. TL;DR of the most egregious things, if you don't have time to read the following disaster of a story: - Recommended $1.5K+ of dental work for "gingivitis & multiple cavities". I sought out 2nd & 3rd opinions from other dentists who said my teeth were completely fine. - Endless fees: $300 appointment cancellation fee. $0.77/minute administrative labor fees. $25 to request medical documents you are legally entitled to. - Practice listed on insurance as in-network provider. They are twin dentists with the same first & last name. Only one is in-network. - Charged my credit card $112 for a "copay" without notice & billed $500+ for new patient visit where they did nothing but take x-rays when I came in for a teeth cleaning. This is the most dishonest dental office I've ever been to in my life. I emailed to set up a routine cleaning that was supposed to be covered by insurance which they said they accept. 1st red flag: a $300 appt cancellation fee, which needs to be canceled 72h in advance regardless of things like COVID. When I came in, they spent the whole time taking x-rays & then set up a follow-up time for cleaning. (Looking back, separating visits was probably a move to suckle more "copayments" out of me). During my visit, an alarming picture of my dental health was painted - I had gingivitis ("we have a $500 cutting edge laser gum treatment - your insurance will cover some!"), 2 developing cavities that needed immediate fillings ("no worries, we can get that resolved for you next week, 1 will be covered by insurance"). It would cost me upwards of $1K out of pocket. Multiple times I asked what insurance would cover & they assured me that some of it would be covered by insurance because they were in-network with my network's basic plan. Never did they say the doctor operating on me was out-of-network. Later I see a $112 charge to my CREDIT CARD that was not verbally disclosed to me during the visit, which I didn't expect because I didn't even get what I came in for! I then get billed $500+ for the x-rays that they forward to my insurance (but I ended up having to pay most out of pocket). I email about the $112 charge & the office responds they "believe they informed me during my visit" (lying through their teeth). I immediately visit another dentist, only to hear that my teeth are in perfectly healthy condition & finally got my teeth cleaned - no copayment needed. The new office calls to get my x-rays forwarded which I'm legally entitled to. They tell them I need to reach out personally to request them. To no one's surprise they say I need to pay $25 to receive AN EMAILED PDF of my teeth, citing things like "storage fees", "labor fees - $0.77/minute", etc. (to give you an idea of all the elaborate ways this place will try to nickel & dime you). THE ULTIMATE KICKER: I email my insurance asking - why does this dentist show up as an in-network provider when they state that they are out of network? They reply that there are 2 dentists with similar names - one of them is in-network, one is out-of-network. Upon googling them I find they are TWINS with the same first & last name. I cannot make this up. If this isn't the most ridiculously sketchy bait & switch operation in the world I don't know what is. In the initial inquiry I stated that I have Delta Dental, & they stated that it's an insurance they accept - they didn't think to disclose this information or set me up with the in-network guy? If you are looking for a dentist in the area, I've switched over to Yerba Buena Dentistry down the street. The quality of care has been exceptional, from the friendly office staff to the dentists, some who have been in practice for over 25 years & actually seem to care about your dental health instead of trying to scam you out of every last dollar.

Chipped tooth, previously fixed multiple times.

I broke my tooth and my current dentist did not have an emergency service nor did they have a referral system in case one of their patients has an emergency.

Dr. Bidgol is a talented practitioner and a wizard at color matching with my existing crowns. I have had two crowns and an extraction during this period and am completely satisfied with her work. Dr. Bidgol's Office Manager Arash is a warm and caring person who ensures my treatment costs and billing dates work with my somewhat limited financial resources. I have never been made to feel uncomfortable when discussing treatment options and have never felt pushed to accept a treatment option that wasn't medically indicated. Finally, their receptionist Heather is both professional and personable. I highly recommend Nob Hill Dental to anyone looking for a new dental partner.

On the first visit they seemed nice, nothing out of the ordinary except pushing me to buy a very specific toothpaste that I could only get from them. I declined it but didn't think much and scheduled my follow-up. For my next dental visit several months later I had the same experience as another reviewer here, where Dr. B told me my teeth were in terrible shape and I needed a deep cleaning. I thought this was weird as I take very good care of my teeth, and the ironic thing is that while the dental hygienist was looking at my teeth during the same appointment they commented on how I had very minimal plaque buildup. I told them I wanted to get the regular cleaning like I had scheduled but they refused to do it that day and told me we had to reschedule it on a separate day for me to come back and for me to think about the deep cleaning. This was super frustrating as I had already taken off work for my regular cleaning and I was leaving without one. The worst part was as I was leaving, the front desk receptionist took another 10 minutes of my time to give me a long pitch of why I should buy the deep cleaning and how their establishment is not out to make money, etc. It made me extremely uncomfortable and confused. To no surprise, the estimate of the deep cleaning came out to be over 400 dollars out of pocket. My relationship has also since ended with them and I will not be returning. I hope that this helps anyone else who also may be in this position!

I was not given a standard dental hygiene goody bag that other patients received, and it was made clear that this decision was based solely on my insurance coverage. This behavior felt discriminatory and deeply disrespectful. Patients should never be judged or categorized based on their insurance policy. Dental offices are supposed to be safe, welcoming environments where people can trust professionals during what can already be a vulnerable experience. This encounter made me feel unsafe, unseen, and devalued as a patient. It takes very little effort to show kindness and extend the same basic courtesies to everyone -- especially when providing a paid service. No doctor should model or tolerate discriminatory behavior within their practice. I hope this office reflects seriously on how patients are treated and makes meaningful changes so no one else has to feel the way I did.

I still had pending treatment that I put off due to a loss in the family, and hadn't been back in quite a while. Then one day, my office gets a call from them that went like this: My coworker "thank you for calling how can I help?" Soothing "I'm calling in regard to mutual patient (my name)" Coworker "uh yes, you know she works here too, right?" Soothing "Yes, I am aware. Do you know when she will get the rest of her cavities filled?" Now, this is technically not a HIPAA violation as I am a patient of both practices, but it was very off putting to have a medical office call my place of work regarding my personal treatment. I would have preferred if she would not have disclosed what she was calling about and just ask to speak with me instead. Up until then I was pretty satisfied with the work I had gotten done, and absolutely loved the assistant who helped me- she advocated for me to have more nitrous (I am VERY anxious about dental treatment), and that I am deeply appreciative of. TL;DR: good office is you are only a patient! I highly doubt they would call YOUR place of work, but this is just my experience!

First off, they are constantly rescheduling appointments last minute for no other reason than the doctors want to adjust their schedules and leave early. This is super annoying when I plan my workday around this and have to adjust and find a new time. Second, on my visit last year they had to do a major filling, when I pointed out that area on prior visits they said it was fine, and all of a sudden it was a major problem. While maybe things could take a turn for the worse in 6 months, I think they weren't assessing it the right way. Hard to believe we go from fine to major cavity in 6 months. On my last visit, which was also rescheduled, the hygienist seemed to be very new and didn't use the little mirror while doing the cleaning, seemed like the cleaning was very light and not thorough. When I asked if the dentist was coming to check-in, they said she left, and since she saw me 6 months ago that it was all fine. I'm used to the dentist always checking in and making sure things are fine. Hygienists are not qualified to check for cavities or compromised fillings.
