I think UNLV will continue to ascend as a respected university. One big detraction is the airplane noise, especially the overnight take offs and landings. It is hard to get 8 hours sleep no matter when you go to bed. There are loud takeoffs and landings from 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and then again starting around 5:30 a.m., with nonstop takeoffs from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The UNLV Administration should ask the FAA and LAS to restrict use of the North runway during sleeping hours. The planes should use the main East/West runways which are mostly over industrial areas during this time. Being jarred awake on campus by airplanes during sleeping hours is a deal breaker for many people. Its one thing to tolerate it during the daytime, but when it interferes with sleeping, its not something that many can adapt to. The school should tape the airplane noise during these overnight hours and present this to the FAA and Clark County Commissioners, if necessary. Let the decibels and times of day speak for themselves. Interrupting the sleep of thousands of residents for the sake of cutting a few minutes of flight time is not a fair tradeoff.

We especially loved the library and the book store. (The walk from the strip wasn't terrible either... area between strip and here is a bit sketch though). Unfortunately, the UNLV degree he graduated with is not being used... not saying college isn't worthwhile, but perhaps a little more guidance would have been helpful. I'd been in California courtrooms almost 8 years at that point...I call BSL and not only did they remember me, they remembered my family, things I'd done in school, conversations I'd had with the deans and registrars. BSL treats students like family and delivers an absolutely top notch legal education. I transferred here so I have a good idea of what a fourth rate law school experience is. Considering that tuition is low for a law school, it's amazing what they deliver: top ranking writing, clinical and dispute resolution training. After graduation they continue to support alumni. While many graduates stay in Nevada this is a solid prep for the brutally tough California bar as well.

We visited other universities in Cali but it was just either to high paced or too low pace. He received an invitation for UNLV and we knew after visiting the school it was a perfect fit. Even though he would be leaving Cali he was still close enough to fly in. Dr. Hanson and his staff are wonderful, he has been of great support as well as a mentor to Timmy. Currently Timmy is home for the summer and will be starting his Sophomore year in the winter. I never worried about him being at UNLV for they have an awesome police force and actually considering it is Las Vegas very little crime. The worst that happened this year a few bikes were stolen and a few cars got broken into. Thank you again to Mrs. Kate Snow in admissions, she was totally professional and provided excellent communication so our transition from Cali to UNLV was smooth. If you are looking for a school that is diverse, offers opportunity, great price and most of all the PEOPLE OF LAS VEGAS are so nice where everyone is very friendly from the stores to the restaurants.

These lectures are held at the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall and are generally presented two to three times a year at 7:30pm and tickets are free to the public. This lecture was with Thomas L. Friedman, a bestselling author and is a foreign affairs columnist with The New York Times, and is renowned for his direct reporting and accessible analysis of complex issues shaping the world. His lecture today was about the big trends shaping US/China Relations Today: Economics, Technology & Geopolitics. Mr. Friedman gave a presentation and then there was a Q&A with a moderator. The event lasted for a little over an hour. It was a nice lecture relevant to the current policies from Washington DC. It is great that these lectures featuring nationally and internationally known guest lecturers are available and free to the public.

They unlock a new module over the weekend, but if you are pro-active and complete the quizes or discussion board before your scheduled zoom meetings, you will lose 4 out of the 5 hours of documented homework time. Furthermore, if you call and ask around the office about an issue, there is no guarantee that the will bother to help you. The instructor made an error on the attendance sheet, forgetting to put the time out before submitting it, causing everyone in the class to get 15 minutes of the 5 hours of lab time on their official grades. It was only corrected because I said something, we submitted an amendment form weeks ago, and after following up I was told they are still working on fixing it. Here we are almost a month later and the correct times have not been adjusted. I haven't missed a regularly scheduled zoom meeting with my instructor, I haven't missed a single Lab day, but because my instructor gives students every opportunity to not succeed, I only have partial attendance credit. I get there before my teacher, am always ready to learn and work my hardest , but everytime I ask my teacher what's going on, I am told "It was covered in the syllabus, you should know this." Funny thing is I call the support line for help, use their virtual assistance on their student portal, and nobody seems to know anything. The instructor has even said " I don't know why it's not working, you will have to meet with someone during business hours." My Disappointment of the institution can not be stated enough. DO not go to this school for Electrical Technician training. I was lied to and told there was an Extension Program for on the job training. After signing the payment agreement and asking about the Extension Program again, I was told "actually Electrical Technician DOESN'T have an extension program". I.E. they make it sound fantastic when they want your money, but when you expect the results that a $20,000 program should provide, they fall far short of my expectations.

This is also a very aesthetically pleasing building to be in or around, the way it lets a lot of light in and how the color scheme keeps it looking fresh. It's also the nearest building to cottage grove parking garage so that's very convinient, for me at least. I don't really have much to say but the fact that this is the building for Science and Engineering, that alone just speaks for itself! And even though this building is on the dark side of campus, it looks undoubtingly articulate. There are big and clean restrooms. And another thing that's big is the lobby area and hallway, where there are a few benches to sit on.

Why they didnt tell me thise arlier when I was at that office constantly, because they themselves dont know what they are doing, and I also heard that the Bussiness College at UNLV also messes up you graduating ontime, because they tell you at the last minute that you dont have enough classses or you need to fullfill this or another requirement. Overall I loved the city, the classes were not bad, people are diverse, but be careful with your advisors and with fullfilling requirements, they mess up the majority of students graduating ontime, no wonder students average finishes UNLV in 7 years undergrad.
