I have never received a hug like that because I am the person that gives those hugs. I felt welcomed. I felt so welcomed and she was the primary reason I proceeded to the sanctuary. I wanted to attend a church that had the Old School Southern feel to it. Originality. Love and Holy Spirit presence. I wanted to feel " HOME " my Southern Roots. Long story short, I have a strained relationship with church and within 6 months of just sitting in the pews, I joined. This alone should speak volumes but I will continue. Now there is always room for growth. We are people meant to take and give constructive criticism. If it said that new members should be embraced in a specific manner then follow thru. I did my part in communication. I wrote an email that I was not obligated to write to inform the church of my abrupt disappearance and I had no follow up. It almost discouraged me because it took so long for me to return to church, then I joined the church and did not hear word back regarding my email. I was asking about how I could still be a participant from another state. I did not want to be just a virtual viewer and attendee. I wanted to pour back into what was pouring into me, even if I was in another state. That was frustrating but that is people within the church and NOT God. Emails from specific people within the church is phenomenal though so I will NEVER take away from that. The experience mentioned about the failure to respond to an email has been the epitome of growth however. I have grown closer to God because of all that was experienced at this church. There are some amazing people who pour into you. There are some people that do not pour into you the way that is expected. The music! I cannot stop talking about the music, the guest, the creativity, the praise dancer, the meat. The meat-the word! The word! I have been exposed to so many people in the Bible and their stories that I never knew existed. I NEVER heard a Pastor preach about sexual abuse until I attended here. I have never been interested in the semantics of politics until I attended here. Overall between Bible Study, Sunday School, and the beautiful community events. This church is so beautiful and expansion is in their future.

My experience at Holy Cross was one of the main reasons I left the Roman religion in favor of…read moreChristianity. When I came here I was going through a terrible time as a single father in poverty. I had gone through the hell of having children aborted against my will, divorce, and watching my precious family crumble. I thought that Catholicism would be a place of boundless love like I read about in the Bible, so I entered RCIA here. I also thought that I would receive the support I needed to care for what was left of my family and hopefully someday rebuild another one so I could have more children and adopt orphans to reflect God's love towards them. I begged the "priests" for help and in return I was told by "priests" I am not worth his time and that I am not welcome here because I was going through a difficult time in my life. I thought it would be like the story of the Prodigal Son returning to the Father. I fully expected to be met with love and peace, but instead I was brutalized and abused mentally, emotionally, and spiritually by "priests" and parishioners. I also thought that it was apostolic where everyone lived like the apostles and worked together for God's glory to bless the poor and save sinners, so I worked for free for parishioners and gave any money I could to benefit my neighbors, the poor, and the church. In return, there was only judgement, hatred, and abuse. There was precious little love here and the only mercy I saw was a picture on the wall. For instance, I was told by one of their parishioners: "do not even look at the urban poor, they are cursed by God. Let them perish." To be fair, a "priest" did return some of my tithe money when I complained about the lack of love and mercy. But I was not searching for money! I was searching for the love of God! Fortunately, there is love, beauty, and mercy in the Protestant, Christian faith and all I can recommend to anyone experiencing the loneliness, isolation, abuse, and Phariseeism of Catholicism is to get out yesterday. You're not alone! There is hope and God's power outside of Catholicism! I think the problem with Holy Cross is that it focuses on propping up historically arbitrary traditions rather than focusing on blessing the repentant sinner by any means necessary. Hopefully they can figure things out and be a beacon of hope to their community. All is forgiven. Many prayers and blessings your way! God has already more than healed me from the damage inflicted upon me and my family by the Pharisees of Catholicism. Christ has freed me from Catholicism! I am a beloved child of God!
