We have brought our miniature golden doodle to FOUR different groomers before finding this place and all of them ended up shaving our dog for one reason or another. Mind you, this is after explicitly explaining the type of cut we wanted including showing them sample pictures. Michelle listened to our requests and our dog looks better than ever. I started going to the home of the dog wizard about 4 months ago. The owner is a very kind hearted woman and obviously loves animals. I have brought my rather large white long haired puppy to he maybe 4 or 5 times since november. Honestly she did a fairly decent job but all and all i felt like my dog was in good hands cause of how good she is with her. Today i had a family member bring the dog and pick her up after and she looks terrible when i confronted her she felt as if she did an adequate job and refused to refund my money back. I was truly disappointed and will never go back or send anyone to that establishment again.. read more

We initially brought our bichon to another groomer who incessantly complained about how 'bad' she was during her grooming sessions. Even told us to give her Benadryl before her appointments. After that we decided to find someone new and thats when we brought our Lucy to the Dog Wizard! Michelle has had only good things to say about our Lucy after every visit and she always does a great job with her haircut. So glad we found someone who actually enjoys their job and cares about the animals she's working with! read more

My dog was mistreated here. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this groomer. If I could choose negative stars, I would. I took a lot of time researching groomers and I truly believed that I was taking my dog to a reputable groomer, and that my pup would have a good experience. Upon arrival I was asked by Ariana what services I would like for my dog, I explained in detail that she has a double coat and needs to be brushed out, I explained how this could take a lot of time and you may end up with a garbage bag full of hair (I guess she thought I was joking), a bath and nail trim. I left my precious 1 year old pup there and was told I could leave and it would be about three hours and they would call me when she was ready. After three hours I decided to just show up and wait there, since it shouldn't be much longer. When I arrived, it was chaos, there were five other dogs besides mine in the very small room, right as I entered, the only room apparently. I was appalled to find that my dog had been put in a crate with fans on her to dry her, she was barking incessantly, I could tell she had been barking for a while, and it wasn't just because she got sight of me, her bark sounded dry and hoarse. Was she offered water? Had she been in this crate for the full three hours (because I would soon find out that no other grooming had been done for her, besides her bath, obviously)? Once I arrived (already had been three hours), I asked how much longer it would be, I was told only 20 more minutes (it was 40). She was taken out of the crate and put on the grooming table, where she was minimally brushed (did not even deeply brushed as I requested, as she was in the midst of her seasonal blow out and desperately needed a thorough brushing) and trimmed her nails. It was so obnoxiously loud from all the barking and the groomers talking amongst one another and over one another, that my stress level was through the roof, not to mention that my poor dog was obviously stressed and extremely scared and unhappy, I could see in her eyes that she was begging me to get her out of there. I didn't even know how to begin the conversation with Michelle about my dissatisfaction, I was fighting back tears, all I could do was collect my poor frightened 1 year old puppy and get her out of there to calm her down, as she was a nervous mess. Once we were out in the parking lot she started running (I had her secure on her harness), pulling me, then she was jetting back and forth, jerking my arm, and growling, she started nipping at my feet, I literally had to pick her up and carry her to the car (she is a 45lb medium size dog). She whined the whole way home and when we got home she could not get to her designated spot in our home quick enough, after drinking a full bowl of water. She ended up by sleeping for the rest of the day and through the night, that would be 16 hours that she was zonked, obviously from stress, she didn't even wake up for a potty break. As a new puppy mom, I do my best to give my pup the very best, whether it be her raw feeding, ample exercise, the proper harness, lots of unconditional love and hugs, socializing, etc. I am still learning that I need to not only research a facility and read reviews online, but I need to personally direct specific questions toward the people who I am considering TRUSTING to perform services on my pooch. I should have asked "How do you dry the dogs", "Do you have experience with double coated dogs" "is this 8x10 room the only one that is available for grooming and holding dogs at your salon" and so on. I live and learn, I am just relieved that my pup survived this horrific experience and does not seem to have any residual fear or anxiety, well, the true test will be if I decide to take her to a groomer again, on how exactly this experience at Home of the Dog Wizard in Milford, CT has affected her. I couldn't be happier with the professional and friendly staff at Home of the Dog Wizard. Michelle has a passion for dog grooming and it shows. My Maltese has always worn a top knot, and through the years, Michelle has put such a creative spin on it that people often stop me to ask where I get him groomed! She also never rushes and always makes him feel calm and happy on his spa day. When I went to another groomer many years ago, my dog would get nervous and tremble upon arrival. So happy to say my dog shows the exact opposite response when we arrive to Home Of The Dog Wizard. He is always happy to see Michelle and even shoots me a glance as if to say "you can go now!" This is no small feat considering my dog has always had separation anxiety issues. Michelle is also very flexible with grooming appts which is amazing considering how busy she is. She also always puts her furry clients and their owners first! I'm so glad I've found her and can't recommend highly enough. read more

I discovered The Dog Wizard right as they opened their storefront on Boston Post Road in Orange right before the summer. My dog, Benjamin, has always hated going to the groomer (we'd tried several grooming salons), and we were desperate to find a place where he would feel comfortable. The Dog Wizard is it!! Frank and his partners sincerely care for every dog and family that come through that door. They work hard to make sure everyone feels at ease. They have unending patience and understanding, a sense of good humor, and a deep and genuine love of dogs. This is a grooming salon owned by "dog people." We've brought Benjamin there three times now, and he has been calm and well-behaved for his entire visit each time. When I come to pick Benjamin up, he's not in a rush to drag me out the door with him, as he has been with previous salons. Instead he wants to play with Frank, eat treats, sniff around the salon, and just be himself in the space. I know he really feels safe at The Dog Wizard, and I am so very thankful we found this place!
