My parents only live about 7 1/2 miles from Unkie's and they'd taken everyone in the family there (multiple times)...but me. It became almost a running joke. They'd rave about the food. Remember how good that was at Unkie's? No. No I don't... Lol We were up there this weekend and it was a couple days before my 55th birthday and mom said... We should take Dan and Owen to Unkie's to my dad... I almost refused... Why ruin a good inside family joke? But I'm glad we went! Don't blink or you'll miss Thor! We arrived at about 430 PM on a Saturday. They open at 300 PM for drinks, seat for dinner at 430 PMish and take orders and start serving at 500PMish. It's seat yourself. The seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. There is also a small bar with seating at it as well... The place is old school. Mostly dark wood and a classic small town steakhouse vibe. Don't expect a five star atmosphere... The real magic is in the food and the customer service. Unkie's is cash only. They will take a local check. And there is an ATM on site. No card payments. Our server was fantastic. I think she is one of the owners... Took our drink orders first along with an appetizer. We ordered our entrees with her a few minutes later. She checked on us every now and then and our drinks never hit the bottom of the glass. My parents ordered the appetizer sampler (fried pepper rings, cauliflower, cheeseballs, jalapeño cheeseballs, mushrooms, pickles, and onion rings) that they shared with the table and they split a 10 oz fillet meal (medium) with sauteed mushrooms, a baked potato, and a side salad with ranch. Dad ordered three extra jumbo shrimp. The shrimp are $4.50 ea, but they are HUGE. The ranch that comes with the apps (or salad)... It's made in-house and is SO good! If you like ranch it's a must try here. My son ordered the 10 oz ribeye (medium) with fries and a side salad with french. I ordered the 10 oz fillet (medium-rare), the Jojo's potatoes (broasted potato wedges), three jumbo shrimp, and a side salad with blue cheese. We all ordered fountain drinks. All the meals came with Texas toast. Everything was cooked to perfection. Not one thing was not on point! The special the night we were there was two 5 oz lobster tails for $40 and there was a halibut special going on too. I glanced at the receipt. I think the total was $143 before tip... Dad was paying or I'd have been more attentive. Unkie's is a hidden gem of a small town steakhouse who certainly lived up to their reputation! Everything I'd heard was true. There is a reason Unkie's is always packed... they have very reasonable prices (cash only but they do have an ATM machine), the food is amazing and Whitney & Chelsie are AWESOME! All eating places need waitstaff like those 2! I highly recommend the chef salad. I know, it is a steak place, but the chef salads are too good to pass up. How have I never written a review for this place?! I've been coming here for many years and have never had a bad experience. Up front you have to know this place does NOT accept cards. They have an ATM on site which is helpful. The prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays is there overall best item. They provide 2 cuts and I've never seen a sad face when someone is consuming it. During this visit I tried the pork chop for the first time, along with my standard side of amazingly delicious hashbrowns! We had a party of 6 and we all loved our waitress. She was friendly, exceptionally knowledgeable of the menu and bar drinks. I enjoyed her sense of humor along with her promptness on refilling drinks. My favorite here is the steak sandwich but I decided to order outside the box and was happy. The appetizer mix up basket is delicious and served with ranch (duh!) Went off a suggestion and it was good for the area. I was visiting my father in Fort Dodge and a friend mentioned this place to try. It was about a good 25 mins from Fort Dodge. They were busy when we got there around 6:40 for dinner. We ordered the filet mignon one with baked potato and one with jo Jo's (big cut fries). The filet is wrapped in bacon. My dad got the salmon with baked potato as well. The only toppings they have for the baked potato are butter and sour cream. The dishes all come with toast. The side salad comes with shaved carrots and that's it besides the dressing. read more

I love this kind of place .... old school supper club type place. Cheap drinks, good fried appetizers, nice steaks, huge Super Jumbo Shrimp, good burgers, and the really nice prime rib. This place seems to be something of a local legend, which has always baffled me. Nevertheless, there is almost always a wait so I must be in the minority. Their prices are fair for a small town establishment, however of note, they do not take cards. Cash only, but there is an ATM near the entrance. I've had the filet of few times, it is usually cooked as ordered, although I have gotten over cooked steak a time or two. My main issue is the seasoning, or lack thereof. I don't want to go to a steakhouse and have to use steak sauce. I want a beautifully seasoned steak that can be enjoyed on its own. This seems like its not even salt and peppered? My husband has gotten various burgers off the menu before, again, nothing remarkable. I will say I appreciate their appetizers, great cheese balls and awesome green pepper rings. Unkies is BY FAR the best local restaurant around! I highly recommend the Unkies Specialty Sandwich! Delicious!! The staff is always very friendly and very attentive. It is my go to choice whenever I am in the area! The only downfall there is, is when the owners go on vacation or leave because then they close on days they normally don't. I have been to Unkie's before and never had an issue. Last night, my fiancé and I decided to take a trip to Thor because we were both craving prime rib. We waited a 1/2 an hour at their building next door. When we did get our seat the waitress asked what we would like to drink. She also said we had to wait longer because she could not take anymore orders. I told her to check on us for more drinks. She never came back so I went to the bar and got more drinks. Not knowing we were going to have to wait another 1/2 an hour. Finally, she said she could take our order. We both wanted the prime rib. She said, Oh we are out of prime rib! Old school supper club service was good, the waitress was fast and pleasant. Being a Tuesday prime rib was not available so I opted for the pork chop...it is Iowa, and the jojos- (potato wedges). I ordered a breaded tenderloin and a dinner salad. The pork was tough and chewy. The breading was not tasty--a bit over cooked. I'd asked for lettuce instead of a bun; that lettuce was not only very limply past its prime--it was very wet--I had to dry it off with my napkin--had to ask for more napkins because my lettuce was so wet. And after that the waitress said,"I'm so glad you are enjoying your dinner." She was so non-observant. The dinner salad was only iceberg lettuce.
