Traveling thru ........ Deceiving the outside signage that says burgers on the partially lit sign, they serve so much more, chicken, hot beef, variety of potatoes, kids size too, also pork loin dinner, half orders! Try it super friendly owner and staff read more

We've been here a few times in the past ands the food has always been very good! This visit was not bad but it wasn't as good as it used to be. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food was ok but it just wasn't up to par from what we remembered. It reminds me of bar food. The floor was sticky when walking to the table. Just a let down! read more

I enjoyed my breakfast stopped by to take a break from the rain the food was reasonably priced and the donuts look delicious, but I had to pass Road Tripping with Dave's Crazy Trailer read more

I stopped here for lunch and the place was really busy. After a short wait I placed my order for 1/2 order of hot turkey and 1/2 order of hot beef so I could try both. This is one of the only places I have ever seen the 1/2 order available, it's a great idea. They brought my food to my table and the first thing I noticed was the turkey sandwich not only had mashed potatoes, but it also had stuffing, all generously coated in gravy. The Turkey was tender and flavorful. It was a good portion considered it was a 1/2 order. The beef came with mashed potatoes and gravy. The beef looked dry, but it tasted good. The gravy was also good tasting. If I had to say anything, the mashed potatoes needed salt, which is an easy fix tableside. Other than that, this was a great meal for the money and the 1/2 orders are really nice to see, I wish more places had that. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. read more

It's not good anymore since the new owner took over. My order is wrong everytime, the chicken strips are gas station chicken strips, the cheese balls are gross now too. read more

Ok so. I have A LOT to say. First I would give it a 1 start if it wasn't for the staff. The staff were incredibly nice. They actually looked like they WANTED to be there. I ate inside only 1 time. I asked for fried fish. When they came back they gave me chicken instead. It would've been fine if it was warm. Instead the chicken was rather cold and tasted stale. The second time we went here was through the drive through. We look and in the kitchen there was fries all over the floor. Along with tiny black spects that kept moving. My mother and I suspect it was bugs. The Dairy Queen is good. Just not Tom Tumbs. read more

If you are a hamburger steak lover this is not your place. I received a hamburger patty well done with minimal onions and green peppers. It did come with two sides. I chose corn and mashed potatoes and gravy. Potatoes were instant, gravy was good. Food was edible but not worth a second stop there. read more

Tom Thumb Drive In - a half eaten meal in a styrofoam container - American Near Me - Fort Dodge, Iowa

My wife and I were driven to Chicago from Sioux City and need a place to stop and eat lunch and we were pleasantly surprised by Tom Thumb. The menu is extensive and the food os excellent. I had a caramel apple dumpling as an appetizer and I highly recommend it and eating desert first as a general rule. If you are passing through do yourself a favor and stop on in. read more

Probably the worst hamburger we've ever had! The Delux hamburger was a bigger piece of meat and I thought it was supposed to come with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles & onions. No Mayo no anything! Just pickles & onions, just like the regular hamburger ‍. At least the fries were good and were the shakes that you had to go back to the front where the DQ was located! The help need to be trained in customer service and leave your pony tail alone and don't keep whipping it with your hands! It was recommended by someone at a museum! I kept telling my husband it's in a Dairy Queen building!!! But the guy said it was good!! Maybe other things are, the hamburgers are bad! read more

We like to eat local when traveling, and I remember going to this restaurant as a child. When we arrived and put in our order, it took a very long time as the team behind the counter was confused about how to put together people's meals. The restaurant was very dirty, and when a server dropped a glass right in front of an entrance door, rather than help, other employees who were taking a break and the dining room loudly yelled and mocked her. In the meantime, anyone who entered would have to walk through a pile of broken glass. The food was fine. read more

This place is a graveyard of what once may have been a decent dinner. The interior is incredibly run down. The supervisor was acting very hostile towards the employees who all appeared to be 15 to 16 years old. Food served here is very bland and made without much care. read more

Horrible made me shit everywhere I couldn't stop shitting no matter what. Still haven't been right. You guys are very wrong read more

Nope. Straight out of a 1970s movie. Food wasn't great either. Staff had no idea what the food was like. Would not recommend.

A must-visit restaurant on the west side of Fort Dodge. Standard breakfast, lunch and dinner fare, all good. Breakfast comes with a big, delicious breakfast roll. Townspeople know to buy containers of sides, pastries and homemade pies for their own meals. The building also houses a Dairy Queen. Drive-thrus for both. read more

Not good the food was cold and dry no flavor gave me ketchup when I asked for bbq sauce went back and told me that was it it sucks orded ribs they were all cold and no flavor probably the worst ribs I tried they had no sauces or anything to acompany the ribs it sucks would not recommend to come and eat here unless you're an old man that doesn't like flavor and wanted the plainest food read more

Still best pies around. Good pies are hard to find and theirs are consistently good.

Ribeye steak sandwich and chicken are delicious. Extensive menu of down-home cooking and desserts.

If I drive between Estherville and Ames on US 169, the Tom Thumb Drive Inn is a logical stop to enjoy a bite and otherwise take a welcome break. This place was here when I grew up in this area, and it seems to still be going strong. In fact, I during our last visit, I think I got into a fun conversation with old Tom himself. Tom Thumb is a little bit of an odd duck in it's orientation. Their Bakery (great breads and pies) is in front, followed by a small DQ, and then a hometown restaurant taking up the majority of the property. The menu is a full one and features all sorts of comfort food and some Iowa-specific choices like Pork Tenderloin sandwiches. The food is plentiful, decent, and relatively inexpensive. The place itself is very down home retro and with interesting and welcoming locals to match. read more

We ate here Sunday 5/26/2019. Great Double cheese burgers! We each had the double cheese (ordered as the house serves them, only had onions and pickles on the doubles)! Would definitely do the burger again. Some of the family say the burgers kind of reminds them of the long gone Sweezy's in Cherokee, Iowa. We split a half pound side of onion rings. While they were good, they were a bit greasy and the coating kept falling off of them (only 3 stars for these). I give them 5 stars as I am allergic to fish and seafood for this alone, they have a fish fryer and don't cross contaminate fried foods. They bake fresh bakery items, they looked good but didn't try anything. Hidden behind Dairy Queen in the same building. Old established business, not trendy at all, do overlook the atmosphere and try the burger here. read more

Go for the fries and then order everything else! Comfort food rules the day at this Iconic drive Inn Diner! Nothing fancy just plain good cookin! Don't miss out on taking some bakery items home too! I grabbed some burger buns and a couple of cinnamon rolls for diner and breakfast the next day. Haven't tried the pie yet but going back soon for some! This is just high quality, simple, hometown eats. Fort Dodge. You are so fortunate. read more

We're not from around here but have driven by several times on our way to Humboldt. Finally we decided we had to try Tom Thumb burgers because how can a place like this stay in business if it's not good? We did drive through. The menu is expansive with all kinds of options but we started with getting burgers and fries. They did not disappoint. Good quality meat and the bun was buttered and toasted. The fries were crispy and over salted like back in the good old days. We'll definitely be back to try ribs or chicken dishes. read more

Best burgers ever! Cheese balls, fries, etc. and Dairy Queen! A must whenever I am in town visiting.

They have REAL broasted chicken. So good. Love it. This is the only place you can get Dairy Queen in Fort Dodge, so that's pretty amazing as well. I gotta say tho, the hamburgers are a big disappointment. They are super thin like the ones at McDonald's. They taste good tho! So if you're hungry, get the doubles and get a couple. My sister-in-law says that the hot roast beef is her favorite. That's next on my list to try. read more

Great food. The baked goods are excellent. Don't forget the pie. Great portion sizes too.

Was staying in town for a wedding and decided to try this place out since it was so close to the hotel. They definitely need to upgrade the interior design. It's just so old looking. Like another reviewer stated, there is a Dairy Queen attached which was odd but nice to see. I only ordered the chili as everything else didn't seem pleasing to the eyes. After taking a bite it was pretty darn bland. Thankfully this was the only time I was ever going to be eating there. read more

My family went to Tom Thumb to try a new family friendly place to eat in Fort Dodge. The food here was amazing, the cheeseburgers were made fresh with homemade buns. Cashier recommended ordering fries in a box to share. They were hot, fresh, and salted to perfection. I can't wait to go back and try something new on the menu. read more

Well first off it's got a dairy queen attached to the front The second all home made pie and the one I'm going to try is sour cream raisin, they have about 10 different types Just got the food and they give you an actual damp towel for extra clean up But the food is just ok,the chicken has been fried earlier and held in a warmer But the staff and place is so 50's that I'm willing to let it slide So if your in fort dodge you gotta go TRY IT! read more

Food was terrible. Waitress lost two of our orders. Took 1 hour to get our food. When we got our food onion rings were cold and tomato on tender loin was moldy. This place will never get my money agin!! read more

Great service, great price, great food--and a lot of it too! Highly recommend their glazed donuts. Best ones I've ever had--and trust me, my family has tried many donuts across the country! None touch Tom Thumb! read more

This place is decent but since it's connected to a DQ this places this restaurant at a max number of 4 stars. Must try the limited time out of this world blizzard read more

Great old-fashioned diner experience with friendly service and home made breads and pies.

I had to carry my own tray and almost spilled my drink. I also enjoy drinking from straws but they did not have any. The ice tasted wierd and they had a nasty type of ranch. Not good in my opinion. read more

2 Cinnamon Roll Frosted, 2 Steak sandwiches, 2dressing, 3raisen cream pie, Strawberry cream pie, cherry pie. AWESOME All of it!

if you like the waitre to touch your fries while placing them on a napkin on your table, then Tom's Thumb is the place for you. also if you like small portions that taste like trash & pay $12 for a kids size meal, then this is the place to go. if you want food poisoning, this is your place. no way people are giving this 4/5 stars. read more

It has good, high calorie comfort food which is sometimes what we are after. The fries are awesome. If you want a nice clean comfortable atmosphere, this is not your place. If you have kids and just want decent food, it works. My teens insist on stopping here each trip thru Fort Dodge. read more

Not a fancy place by any means, but they have awesome fried chicken and the best country fried steak. Also they have homemade rolls that are amazing! Definitely worth checking out! read more
