We recently had Universal Painting paint the exterior of our home. From the initial consultation with the owners son Ryan to the picking of colors that would go great with the brick work on the front of our home all went perfectly. They came out a week or so prior to the painting day and pressure washed the house to prep it for paint. A couple days later they had a couple guys go around the house fixing any dry rot, they used caulking in all the gaps in the siding and stucco patch for the cracks in the stucco. On paint day we had (14) painters swarm our house all at once. They had (2) paint sprayers painting all the different areas of the house while others back-rolled the paint along with starting to cut in all the trim work. They have a special paint sprayer just for doors. Our front doors and our side garage door have never looked so good. They both look like they are brand new even though they are 35 years old. All in all we are vey pleased with how the paint turned out. I've gone over the house looking for any "holidays" in the paint and I haven't found any so far. They really did a great job with the painting. The Sherwin Williams Super Paint has a reputation for being a great paint so we will have to see how it holds up over the next decade or so. We went with Colonial Revival Gray (satin) for the body of the house and Alabaster (gloss) for the trim on the house and those two colors work beautifully together giving the house a very clean and fresh look. It goes perfectly with our brick columns and sidewalk also. All in all we are extremly happy with how things have turned out and look forward to possibly hiring Universal Painting to paint the inside of our home in the coming years. read more

I hired Universal years ago to paint the exterior of my 2-story home. The owner Steve was very professional and set my expectations in advance on everything the job entailed. His crew was punctual and professional and did a great job. Due to my positive experience, I reached out to them again for some interior dry-wall repairs. I had received a few other bids from contractors who would have been cheaper, but I believe you get what you pay for. When I did research on the others I learned they weren't licensed or insured. The other company was late to the appointment (no call) and the estimate was vague and not specific in the work to be done - it felt like a miscommunication before the work even began. It Didn't help that he had a bad attitude and acted like he was doing me a favor. Steve and Ryan at Universal were very professional and thorough in evaluating the job, provided options, and even came down in price a bit since I was a repeat customer when I mentioned the other estimates I had received. The job took 3 days and Luis was the head contractor on site and was great. The quality of work was well done and they went above and beyond by cleaning up little marks here and there that weren't included in our bid so that everything matched and came out clean. We are so pleased with the painting work from Universal. Besides being nice to deal with, their detail orientation in the painting work was superb. Our house was simple among nicer homes in Yountville, but they treated it like a palace anyway and made it look that way. The selection of finishes and quality of paint really shows! Steve was very thorough in the details of the job and explained all the prep work, the amount of coats for primer and paint, how they apply it and their technique, and the type of paint that would go into completing the project. He does a power wash for prep about a week before. The paint job was completed in one day! He had an army of staff with him. I didn't communicate that I wanted the shutters to be the accent color( darker brownish gray) and it was painted in the trim color (cream/white). It still looked nice, but I wanted a "pop", so I let him know and he took care of it the next day. Excellent customer service. The quote was reasonable especially for the quality of work put into it. My house looks amazing thanks to Universal Painting, but it wasn't cheap. First off, my home needed trim to be replaced and caulking to be done in certain areas. The process started with the owner coming to do a walk around, assessment and estimate. Because of the standard of quality that this company provides, there was a wait for about one and a half months before the start date. When my week of work finally arrived, it started with a couple of workers who power washed my house. They were all about business and finished the entire house thoroughly in about 2.5 hrs. Two days later a whole team of maybe 8-10 workers came to prep the house. This included removing bad trim, replacing it, caulking, priming and getting the surface ready for painting. The next day, another huge team came and taped off windows and began the big production of painting! I am very impressed with how my home turned out! The only reason that I took off a star was because I saw an employee urinating in the corner of my yard two different times after I made a restroom available for the workers. I brought it to the attention of the foreman who spoke to the worker. I also had to have someone come back out to do a clean-up of a window that had a huge spray of paint on it. The plus side is that the owner always made sure that any errors were rectified. I had Steve, the owner of Universal Painting, and his crew paint the outside of my house in 2020. They did everything I asked on the prep work and did a wonderful job. We needed our vaulted ceiling in our living room painted and scheduled Universal Painting over the winter to paint it. The first day, Steve's team primed the old celling and started painting the cross beams. Unfortunately, the original stain on the celling blead through the primer and the paint pealed from the beams. Now here is where the honesty & integrity of a company shines. Steve had his crew scrap and sand the new paint they just put on. They re-primed and repaint the whole celling over. When looking for painters for our home it was important that we hired licensed and bonded professionals. Painting a two-story home can be dangerous and we wanted to make sure we were working with a company that took care of their employees and took this part of the job seriously.
