So my garage broke. No idea why and/or who to ask to get it fixed.So I turned to google like any normal person.I saw many companies but saw several good recommendations from Universal Overhead Door Co. Plus he was in my neighborhood (not a big company) and I hooped his prices were competitive. So I called and Tom and he shows up to my house as his last stop of the day. I could tell Tom was out working all day as he looked tired. However he was very pleasant, professional, and ready to work. Tom diagnosed my problem in 10 minutes recommended a solution and only charged me a minimal cost when others would charge up to $50! I was appreciative of that! I needed a spring adjustment and a new sensor which Tom said sensors rarely ever fail. He quoted the cost of $40 for parts/labor after he ordered them. So when Tom came back to fix the sensor. He checked it over again and told me that he may have saved me some money. Tom found a spiderweb that was causing the sensor not to work properly! Tom told me he was embarrassed he missed this the first time but was happy to tell me at the same time! He was so honest and did not even replace the sensor since mine worked! I know the big box store would have charged me for the sensor and not even told me about the mistake they made! Tom was awesome! Tom then fixed my spring, oiled up my garage tracks, and even told me a trick to keep mice out in the winter! And in this instant he didn't charge me any money since he had missed the easy fix initially. I could not be more pleased with Tom's honesty, prices, and his willingness to serve! I was recommended Universal Overhead Door by one of my neighbors because our garage door would not open. I went to the website, sent Tom a text using the 24 emergency number on the website. He got back to me within 10 minutes! I told him what was going on and even took a video and sent him what was happening with my garage door. Right away he could tell what was wrong and suggested a YouTube video! I showed the 1.5 minute video to husband and it was fixed within minutes! Tom was so helpful and didn't try to charge me or come out to look at my garage when he know that a simple video would fix it. I appreciate his honesty and quick response! Tom knows his stuff. Not only did he fix my popping issue with a new-ish strut (it was used but thicker, straight and true), he adjusted the closing force of the the door which was the cause of the issue in the 1st darn place, lubed the tracks, adjusted the springs, and tweaked the bottom seal mating with my slab so the door closes smooth, flush, and new again...and came in $50 UNDER the phone quoted price. Yeah buddy! To all other contractors out there...this is how it's supposed to be so learn a lesson. I am 110% satisfied. I thought I was in for an excuse filled $400-$500 bill that ended up simple and just 3 nickels over $100. If possible I would give 10 stars. read more

I came home on Sunday after a weekend up north and the garage door would not go up. After some investigating I realized the spring was broken. I did a google search and seen Universal overhead door. I called to leave a message and Tom answered the phone on Sunday). After I explained the situation Tom said he would be here on Monday in between other appointments. Tom called at 15 minutes away so I could leave work to let him in. He replaced the spring and then did an adjustment to my door opener (which I installed myself to the best of my ability). Our Overhead garage door suddenly stopped working at 6 pm on a random Tuesday. I called and left a message with Universal Overhead Door, thinking I would get a call back in the next day or two. Instead, I got a call back in the next 20 minutes. Thankfully, mine turned out to be a very minor issue. In less than 5 minutes, they had figured out my problem while on the phone, walked me through the simple fix, and my door was back in working order. My call was returned after hours and at no charge to myself, neither of which I was expecting, and both of which are unprecedented in my experience. Not only has he saved me hundreds by repairing my garage door instead of trying to sell me a new one like the other companies were, he recently came to my rescue and installed a brand new garage door opener for a fair and affordable price. Tom was great. He efficiently troubleshooted our broken torsion spring over the phone and scheduled time the next day to come out and fix it. He was very informative and taught me some maintenance steps that 2 previous door techs from other companies never took the time to show me. Tom did good work and you get the feeling that he cares as much about the work he's doing at your place as he would for a friend or family member. I had screws pop out of a hinge. I put bigger screws in but they didn't hold. Tom came out and identified the root of the problem as a bad spring. He was apologetic that he had to charge me more than he quoted on the phone, but I understood and agreed completely. He did a little extra work as well. I had a broken torsion spring on my garage door and none of the big box stores had what I needed in stock, and since it was a Friday evening, all of the other garage door service companies were closed. Tom came to check out my opener that was without power despite doing all the troubleshooting steps. The day Tom arrived, somehow the power was back on and we checked it and got it working. I thought I would at least get a service charge, but no - Tom said "just happy for you that it started working again". Tom will be coming back to replace one of my garage door panels. My first experience with Universal was a call to find out if they could send someone to fix a garage door in a building I recently purchased. Rather than just schedule an appointment, Tom asked me a few questions and told me how to fix the door myself saving me a service call over something pretty simple to fix. Just had Tom fix our Garage Door Opener. He immediately knew exactly what the problem was simply by my layman's description. He popped it off, replaced the internal stripped gears and re-installed it in about 2 hours. He additionally lubed the rails for a smoother movement and adjusted how the door physically sits on the ground so it now creates a better seal. Similar to other reviews, called Tom with the intention of replacing my old opener. After a visit, he simply recommended replacing the gear (which had dried out and cracked) - and mentioned the opener was top of the line.
