My fussy, fashion conscious brother is a nightmare to buy Xmas pressies for. And because the staff at Universal were so helpful, this year he's got something to unwrap on Christmas Day (it was a close call, let me tell you).
I've always thought Universal was a bit too "surfer-dude chic" to pay much attention to before, but on closer inspection, it's not as bad as I thought. Especially the men's shoes. Which was what I decided to buy my bro for his Chrissy gift. His style is like a grown-up skateboarder these days (he's now a father of two so doesn't want to go too far down the mutton route).
The sales assistant waited patiently while I placed a few frenzied calls to my sister in law to find out my bro's shoe size. I then made the poor girl go to the store-room to get almost every single pair of men's shoes in the store in a size 11, while I made up my mind. Then changed it again. Then changed it back. Then wanted more options. I even had her taking the shoes off the mannequin in the front window. Then I eventually decided upon the very first pair of shoes I'd seen. Of course.
Even better, as long as all the tags are on, the shoes haven't been worn and I've still got the receipt, then my brother can take them back for a full refund within 12 months. (Yep, that's a WHOLE YEAR for him to decide if he likes them or not).
I'm impressed. (In case you're wondering, I got him a pair of anke-high Vans in a sandy coloured suede, with black laces). read more
