Set up in the late '80's to house small businesses and as a general space for the community to have meetings and such, it employs around 30 members of staff who run it. Rooms are available to hire our at an hourly rate. The rooms are simple, with enough chairs to host 40 people, a white board and a sink. They charge anywhere between 9 and 14 pounds, depending on whether you are using the room for community of business based events.

The diverse range of services provided by St George's gives a holistic approach to helping others rather than just temporary help then passing the buck and finding no solution to problems.

St George's Crypt is about making people's lives better and giving them the opportunity to do it for themselves, giving people a purpose to get out of bed and not do the types of things that cause you harm. Everyone was friendly - from staff, to volunteers from the prison, to ex prisoners in full time employment, to clients using the facilities. I felt safe and as though they appreciated the help that anyone and everyone can offer. If you want to help out and support such a useful place in Leeds go get in touch and do anything to help them!

This is a bit of a sad little charity shop in the heart of Oakwood. It has all the things you…read moreexpect from a charity shop - a large selection of second hand clothing, ceramics and glassware, VHS cassettes - you know the usual. When I wandered in I was hoping to sniff out some exciting quirky items but no matter where I looked everything was sort of tainted with dull. There were some jewellery items in the counter, but that was fairly sparse. Even the back room had little to offer except a few tattered board games. Finally, the young man at the counter really looked like he didn't want to be there. He offered a sort of attempt at making a welcome but quite obviously didn't care. I wonder whether it is simply because Oakwood is such as small place that he can't have had that much custom and so was rather fed up by this point, which might explain the lack of interest within their items, but even so I immediately felt awkward as I entered and almost felt the need to find an excuse to leave as soon as possible. I found a little packet of buttons, bought them for 10p and made a sharp exit. Relief! I don't like to end on a bad note, and it is a charity shop, but I'm struggling to find anything more to say - perhaps it will be different next time...if there is a next time?

They did have a full bookshelf, a selection of shoes, clothes and a scarf I quite liked so I can't whinge too much but it all just felt a little unloved. They did have a 50p rail, which took me back to my childhood when most things in charity shops seemed to be 50p! A good idea but I couldn't find anything I'd have parted with 50p for. I'm sure they occasionally do have good bits and bobs in but they just didn't do it for me on my first and only visit thus far. But it is encouraging the reuse of unwanted stuff and the money raised is for a good cause (providing care and support for the homeless) so three stars it will get!

I'd say it's becoming the best venue in York for shows as we don't really have anything like a massive arena. It had a massive refurb a year or two ago and reopened sometime last year. It's really big and modern now, a great venue.

Faith Lodge does this by offering courses in horticulture. Along side this NVQ where residents grow vegetables in polytunnels an enterprise called Nurture is being developed where greetings cards, bracelets, flower baskets, bird boxes and jams, amongst other things, are being created by residents. Working nationally as well as locally Nurture will be working with The Eden Project on an exhibition for the Chelsea Flower Show.
