There are at least two Doc's Liquor Stores in Lubbock, TX…read more It's the same thing as Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods which is also available in Lubbock. This one was on Quaker Ave - a short drive to our hotel near the Buddy Holly Hall with Texas Loop 289 and Interstate 27 nearby. It's a large store with free, ample parking all around. It's organized. Clean. The sections are labeled clearly. While the folks working there were nice, they kept to themselves on the afternoon of June 23, 2023. Often they were in the aisles restocking stuff which irritates the fire out of me, but I walked out a happy customer. My significant other said his mom & aunt loved these hot & spicy pickles soaked in Ole Smoky Moonshine. So we bought a jar ($20.94). They were just okay to me. He had never tried Crown Royal vanilla, so I got one of the 50ML miniature bottles ($2.99). There were some great gift ideas in cool bottles. Cigars. Cigarettes. All the heart failure vices. Lol. But you know what's worse than those? Liars & cheaters. Doc's will never lie to or cheat on you. TIP Closed on Sundays.

I usually go to the Market Street on 50th, but I saw this one and figured I would stop by. It is…read morecomparable to the one on 50th, I felt the fresh cooked foods area was not as nice. It was smaller and the deli was not as good. However, the sushi was a lot better. The store did seem darker and less open than the other one, but it still had lots of good foods and even some better items. Their wine and beer selection looked more complete. They also had live lobsters and a nice meat counter with different pre-assembled meat dishes, e.g. beef and feta cheese pinwheels, peppered ribeye steak, apple stuffed chicken or turkey for roasting, etc (the 50th street has a large seafood section but no meat counter). At the 50th street one there is hardly ever any bargain/thrift food, possibly because it is busier, but at this one they had bread and all kinds of meat. I like buying the sale stuff because you can save a lot and have something tasty to put on the grill. The location is pretty far off the Loop, and there was a lot of construction in the immediate area when I went by which was a pain, plus I nearly got rearended by a driver in a big white van not paying attention on the way there (after she almost hit a red Mercury sedan too!). I will probably return in the future to the 50th street location, but this one is not bad! And as I said, the sushi was much more delicious at this location (the 50th street piles on the wasabi and has more boring selection).

The sandwich had a good flavor but would have been better with melted cheese instead of cold slices. The okra tasted OK but had been sitting out a while. Service was fast and efficient.

Here I found the Hanami prawn crackers which I couldn't find at most places so I was very happy. The staff seems very friendly and eager to help. One thing I wish they did was to label the prices with the items. I had no idea how much everything was until I paid so that was a bit more suspenseful than necessary. Maybe it's a Filipino thing.
