I only realized it as I was driving away from the store.  I went back to the Beauty Depot, and I got a refund.  The reason it happened,  I was told that the previous purchased item (from another customer) was still in the cash register, making it sound like it happens a lot.  My first thought was that they were trying to steal from me, but she called it a mistake.  I agreed it could have been a mistake, but it's one that I've never experienced before and was, well, frankly, hard for me to believe. Unfortunately, calling this mistake a fraud as the reason for return on the return receipt resulted in me being called "rude" by "the manager", she has white beauty marks on her face, i didn't get her name. I would be surprised if she were really the manager, because she was very unprofessional. I told her that I plan to call the manager tomorrow, and she indicated that I could tell her my issue because she is the manager.  Well, she already knows the issue...she was standing right next to me when I made my purchase, when I came back to the store to complain about the overcharge, and she refunded the money....so, I'm not sure what she can help me with.  I'm fighting back the best way I know how, with written words. By the way, she never gave me back my original receipt, which listed the actual items I purchased.  All I have is a copy of the return item receipt....another honest mistake, I guess. As, I was walking down a aisle, the Associates Favorites Items Shelf caught my eye. I remember reading reviews for this location, I believe on Facebook about the high level of knowledge and professionalism Jamie had provided. I begin to speak Jamie's name out loud and the Associated from the back of the store responded, yes. I advised her of the great reviews she had received and immediately begin chatting about what I wanted to do with my natural hair. She took the time to advise me that I have been coloring my hair incorrectly. She provided me with the correct hair color and insight on how to ensure that the color gets all over my roots. Jamie and Cat both instructed me on how to maintain my hair after and beyond the coloring process. Jamie even multi-tasked and waited on another customer during my visit. This store location is closest to my residence and I must say that Jamie and Cat was phenomenal at providing quality customer service. Apparently this is pretty hard to find. Honestly, I was really about to give up and just order them on EBay when my boy said we should try Beauty Max. Crazy, but they had them there for $1.99 for 10 blades. We asked the girl at the register because we couldn't find them on the shelves. Makes sense they keep them behind the counter. They're very sharp blades so sometimes it pays to ask for assistance. They offer tons of skincare, make-up, hair styling tools, wigs, mani-pedi products, shaving accessories as well as purses, jewelry, clothing, sunglasses and way too much more to list. Very brightly lit with aisles and aisles and aisles and walls of products geared towards making you beautiful. You just have to see for yourself. Wheew! Overall, the service was awesome. She wouldn't even make eye contact and proceeded to just repeat the same phrase instead of properly conversing. I was willing to leave to find a restroom and return, if that's what I had to do. However, I didn't appreciate her contemptuous demeanor towards me. It felt disrespectful, as if she didn't view me as a human worth her time. I politely set down my basket and left. Disturbing Experience at Coco's Beauty…read more Yesterday, my family and I had a truly distressing experience at Cocoa's Beauty on 103rd Street. While browsing the makeup section, my daughter was excited to show me some press-on nails she had found. I told her no and asked her to put them back. That's when things took a very unexpected turn. I began to hear someone yelling, and after a moment, I realized the person was addressing us. It appeared to be one of the store owners. He accused my daughter of taking items from behind a locked display. I assured him that I didn't believe that was the case. I apologized and explained that my daughter, being a little girl, might not have understood where the item belonged. I placed the item back on the counter and continued to browse. However, the situation escalated when the store owner began to antagonize me, repeatedly questioning me about the misplaced item and demanding that I do something about it. Feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, I decided to leave the store with my children. Unfortunately, he followed us and continued to yell, claiming that I was attempting to steal his merchandise. In the chaos, I realized I was still holding a $5 blush set, and my daughter was holding a $6 hair product. My daughter, visibly scared, dropped the product, and I returned the blush to the counter. At this point, the situation became more intense, with the store owner accusing me of trying to steal. I tried to explain that I hadn't processed everything he was saying due to the overwhelming situation, as my main concern was getting my children out of the store safely. What's most heartbreaking is that my daughter spent the entire way home crying, asking what she had done wrong. I assured her she had done nothing wrong and reminded her of her worth as a loving, strong, and beautiful individual. No one should make her feel less than that, especially based on assumptions about her race. This incident has left a lasting impact, and I feel compelled to speak out. We chose to move to a wonderful neighborhood, put our children in the best schools, and raise them to be respectful and kind. Yet, despite our best efforts, it's clear that certain prejudices still exist. Cocoa's Beauty is located in a predominantly Black neighborhood, and I am heartbroken by the way my family was treated, especially considering the support this community gives to the business. I am urging others to consider boycotting this store--not just for my family, but for anyone who values respect and fairness. I believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their background or appearance. The guy at the front register was nice and the girl who helped me with the wigs was nice so I gave her a $1 bill. She seemed happy to get it. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that they sell gold colored earrings locked in a case, which didn't make sense to me because they are priced at only $2-4 but are labeled 14kt gold. I asked the wig girl what part of the earring was 14kt gold and she had no idea. The guy up front was gone by that time, so I left thinking they are selling fake earrings labeled as 14kt gold. So to sum it up, go here for your wig and ethnic hair care needs but steer clear from the jewelry.
