The community really leans into myths and spooky legends, and you'll find restaurants, shops, food and drinks named after these cultural conspiracy theory characters all over the place. The Thrifty Mountaineer is the place to visit in Morgantown if you're into cryptids, because there are so many cryptid items for sale! Plushies, t-shirts, books, keychains, patches and so much more available. Mothman is THE cryptid of the state, and there are lots of Mothman things here. We picked up some Mothman potato chips, because we were curious what Mothman chips would taste like. (Turns out, Mothman tastes a lot like barbecue Lay's.) The store is also an overstock and liquidation store, a notary public and a place to get financial coaching. I can't even make this up. This store is so cool and random, and there are surprises around every corner. The people who work here are hella chill. But you'd have to be if you own and operate a friggin' store dedicated to cryptids, right? If you sell soap that smells like the Flatwoods Monster, you can't take yourself too seriously. These guys like to have fun.

They have a thrift "bin" which is essentially a table full of random stuff for $2. We found an unopened 6-pack of Hanes boxers and some replacement inner tubes that would fit a dirt bike. They have very fairly priced shirts for men, women, and children. I left with a $3 Bacardi tshirt and a $.50 corkscrew in a velvet drawstring bag. The staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. They were so pleasant. There are two comfy chairs in the middle of the main room where you can relax while the rest of your party shops around. Sometimes, when writing a review, you have to be honest so others can avoid what you just saw. This…read moreis one of those times. The Laurel Mall Flea Market in the Laurel Plaza is a dump. I'm used to Flea Markets and booth style antique places, but this was an eye-opening experience. First, don't come here on a Friday at 9AM when it opens, nothing is open. Second, don't come here at all on a Friday as half the booths don't open. The interior is a mix between being overcrowded with stuff, water damage, and the general question of when it's going to be condemned. Large fans attempt to cool the flea market, and the hallway leading back to the former movie theater is blocked off. Booths are located in the hallways, former storefronts, and former anchor store. Most have a bunch of random stuff in them, but there was a toy/collectables dealer, and an appliance dealer. The booths in the former anchor have to battle with narrow walkways and the massive amounts of water damage, making it a challenge to shop at them. Parking in the front of the Laurel Plaza is fine, don't even try to go around to the back unless you have a truck or SUV, as the parking lot is equivalent to the surface of the moon. I wish the booth owners in here the best of luck, because unless I was a local who could be here in minutes, I would avoid the Laurel Mall Flea Market under almost all circumstances.
