I am writing a review to tell everyone about my experience at and with Union County Public Library…read morein Monroe, N.C. I must say, from the time I walked in the door, the library was clean, quiet, and I was greeted at the front door and direct to where I needed to go. My journey started because I am building my tree, in Ancestry, for The Laney Family that moved to the area in the 1700's. I knew who the first grandfather, 6th removed, was and that he arrived in Pennsylvania thru my direct grandfather who I had met, Zebulon Vance Laney. I planned on a trip and called the library and was directed to the voice mail of Ray Cossart who was the Genealogist. Ray called me back within 48 hours. He asked me to given him each of my ancestries with their dates of birth and death. I also mentioned other family members. My and now our goal was to be stories of each of the family members. We talked over the next 3 weeks before I left. I arrived early Saturday morning and Ray met me and proceeded to bring out folders, books, articles, so much data. I spent about 3 hours going thru and, after complying items I wanted to bring home, Ray downloaded on a thumb drive. I said goodbye as I went to Cemetaries, sites, including Kings Mountain. I told Ray I would be back on Monday so he sat documents to the side so I could review when I came back. Also, visited with my older cousin and shared what i have learned. I also went to Trinity Baptist Church, where many of my descendants were buried but The George Laney Family cemetery was the highlight. Monday morning, I met with Gypsy Houston, Genealogy & Local History Librarian. She was so patient and helpful with me as I was become overwhelmed. She told time out of her day to scan several documents for me and add to my thumb drive. Another 2 hours, You could see the love, passion, and the desire to help me on my journey. For me this is sometimes hard to find people who will take the time to help, in their busy day, and take the time to compile the information I needed. Warning, Gypsy and Ray, I am planning to return to visit you again in November, this will be more of a saying hello to my favorite Genealogist. As you can see, I am a raving fan.

The Union County Public Library system it's self leaves a lot to be desired because the locations…read moretend to be small and don't have a decent selection of books. However, the Union County Public Library in Monroe is one of the best in the area. It's no wonder it's one of the better ones because it's located in the county seat of Union County. This location offers a wide variety of books and movies to check out and they many computers if you don't have a computer at home or you need an internet connection. The front desk assistant is very helpful and went above and beyond what I expected in helping me find the book I was looking for. The look and feel of the Monroe Library is standard so nothing really stands out and yes it's very quiet. So if you need to work on a project or just relax away from the noise then this is a great spot. When you are ready to check out, there is no long lines because they have terminals where you can scan your books out and not waste unnecessary time. Also, if you have a membership, you can browse online for the books or movies you'd like to check out and have it put on hold or delivered from another library in their system to your home branch.

Del Webb library is cozy and quaint, in other words, it's small but the librarians give their heart…read moreand soul into their work. You can see the passion they have for this library and the many patron who come here. When you're here it seems like a vestige back in time, no it's not modern, no there's not a big selection of books but it suits the patrons who tend to be seniors. Del Webb library is located near Sun City in Indian Land, which makes sense. There is a nice adult section, history section, young adult and children's section. Another thing I love about this library is you can purchase gently used books that others have donated. The price range is 25 cents to 4 dollars. If you take the time to browse, you'll likely find a great book to add to your collection. Also if there's a book you're looking for and they don't have it, they'll order from Amazon for you. Again, the staff here is wonderful and they more than make up for any short comings there may be.

I love the small bookstore located inside, they sell gently used books, various genres, in good shape, prices are cheap. You can find a great bargain in here. I also like the Indian hand made baskets and pottery they have on display, great little exhibit. If you're in the area and you love books and movies, this is a great place, worth checking out.

The South Park Regional had a fair collection of books and materials for the younger set, but really excelled at games and toys for engaging kids ... they even had a little cabin the kids could go in. The library itself was newish, clean and easy to get to, with available free parking ... although it is oftentimes full. Unlike some other libraries in the district, this one had more library things for kids to play with, but fewer library materials (books and puzzles). Still and all, nice library and recommended.

Libraries today aren't as quiet as they used to be, but I had plenty of space at my table to be comfortable with my book, notepad, pens, & highlighters. I actually enjoyed being in earshot of a teacher tutoring a student and giving the parent an update. Was very pleased to find the ladies restroom clean. Would definitely return here for study time, if necessary.

The ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center collaboration between the library district and the Children's Theatre is a hands down wonder. While some libraries specialize in library things (games and toys) to engage kids and others specialize in library materials (books and puzzles), ImaginOn has it all ... including plays and story times. The library itself is free to enter, multi-story, newish, clean and easy to get to, with available parking that is free for 90 minutes with a stamped ticket. This facility absolutely had everything to stimulate kids of all ages ... probably 2 to 12 being the sweet spot. Do make a point of finding your way here for a visit someday ... you'll be glad you did. Highly recommended.

I love that the Mecklenburg libraries have story times for various ages throughout the week…read more We've been coming here since February and my toddler loves it. There is always some sort of craft, legos, toys and computers for her to play with/use. They also usually have monthly events and a theater. I prefer to download the CMLibrary app to keep up with events. We prefer to come here on the Saturday's but it's definitely more packed. It's about 40ish families at every session. They have a parking garage (under the library) which you can take the elevator directly into the library. They validate for 90 minutes. The issue is when it's full or days they have events parking can really be a pain. They may direct you to park at 7th street parking garage but they only validate after 5pm on weekdays or anytime on weekends.

Today was the first day that Union County opened its newest library, Southwest Regional Library…read more Many of us have been waiting for an updated, modern library that will serve the needs of the residents. Without a doubt, the Director has done a phenomenal job in bringing this creation to life. First of all, this library is almost 4 times the size of the old Waxhaw library and there is plenty of parking spaces for parents, students and residents without having a long walk. When you walk in, you're warmly greeted by a large staff of friendly faces. There is a map to help you navigate where to go. Aesthetically, the library is one of the best libraries I've seen in the Charlotte area. The decor and atmosphere blend very well and even when the library is full, it still has a calmness to it. One of the first things I noticed was the huge children's book section which should more than accommodate any child's interests and reading level. As you move through the library, you'll notice they have study rooms which as first come, first served guaranteed for at least an hour. They have two stem sections, one of them has a 3D printer 3D computers and PS5. The other has smaller activities for children. There are several areas for reading, relaxation and if you want a snack or beverage, there is a small area for that as well. The adult book section is substantially larger as well with a much better variety of authors and genres whereas the old Waxhaw library was stuck in the past. When it's time to check out, you can either do self checkout at a couple locations inside or at the help desk. Overall, I'm truly impressed with our newest library and all of its offerings. The customer service is excellent and there is plenty of staff to happily assist if you need.
