    Lake Superior

We've been coming to this campground for five years and will continue as long as we are able. We just happened on this campground and fell in love with it the first time we came here in 2020. It's not a real big campground and it's quiet; right across the road from Lake Superior and 7 miles from Lake of the Clouds. There are also countless hiking trails through the beautiful Porcupine Mountains.

Such a nice campground in a beautiful setting. Really enjoyed our stay. Quiet, family friendly place to camp. Just steps away from a beautiful Lake Superior beach. Bathrooms/showers were spotless. Such a well kept, family owned campground. Owners very friendly and helpful. Loved watching all of the hummingbirds. Campground is right next to Porcupine Mtn Wilderness State Park. Can't wait to go back.

I am so happy we stayed here a few nights ago. The campground has the most beautiful spot to watch the sunset. It is beautifully kept and everything was clean and looked great. The bathrooms are outstanding and we're so warm and always smelled amazing. We will be coming back every time we are in the area.

Very good experience here in camp. Clean, quiet and so well maintained throughout. Lacked for nothing.

Nicest shower house I've ever experienced while camping. Grounds are very well cared for. Perfect spot for access to water and mountains.

Directly across the road is Lake Superior where we went rock hunting, let our dog swim, and watched amazing sunsets.

This campground did the job, as far as campgrounds go. There is lake access, but the rocks are…read moreJagged and treacherous, so you're better off driving to a nearby beach. The bathrooms were clean and nice. There is no sink or spot to do dishes, which was annoying. The spots were open and close to each other with little to no shade and no privacy. It's pretty much a field and am RV Park. I would not stay here again unless there were no other options in the area.

I could seriously begin to write a Pure MI ad about how much I loved this campground. I went to…read morethis campground in the middle of August and the weather was ideal for camping. It warmed up in the afternoon but was nice a cool for sleeping. We stayed with another couple on our site and it was a tight squeeze. The sites here are very small so keep that in mind if you are traveling with a large group. In order to get a spot right on the lake you have to book 6 months in advance and it is totally worth it. You can hear the waves crashing onto the beach from your tent and it is well worth booking a trip so far in advance. We stayed in spot #1 for a four day trip. It was a short walk down to the beach where we watch the sunrise every morning. The bathrooms were nice and well cleaned. There is a camp sponsor who stays a month at a time on the campground to help organize events. My only complaint is the fire pits didn't have grates or anything for you to cook over so that meant becoming buddy-buddy with our neighbor to borrow supplies. The hiking was amazing. There were plenty of good trails within a 20 min drive of the area. We had such a good time exploring the area. I will stay that the trails are extremely muddy after a good rain but after two days they dry out pretty well. We didn't explore any of the restaurants but there are several within 30 mins drive. Overall I can't wait till we can go back to this campground and I would highly recommend this mountain range to anyone in the Midwest.

We came here on the ferry from Bayfield (super easy, but recommend having your car on the ferry if…read moreyou plan to head out here) and had a great time hiking. I was a little confused on where I was supposed to park for the trails, but there's essentially one road so you just kinda figure it out as you go (I went the wrong way the first time, maybe a 2 minute detour). We parked near the beach access area, and started off on the trails. We took the Woods Trail to the Point Trail to the Bayview Trail -- and it brings you right back to the same place. I recommend doing it in this order (which I think is counter-clockwise?) versus the reverse. While the Woods Trail is in a lovely, lush green woods, after seeing the rocks and lake sites along the other trails, the Woods Trail would be a very boring way to end. Starting with the Woods Trail, it's only better as you go along. I hiked with my senior large dog, and he did just fine on the paths. Pretty clear markings and nothing super treacherous if you don't venture out on to the rock formations. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk (big sad face), so we went back to town after the hike. Along our way, we saw a small black bear crossing the road! Quite an adventure. Depending on date and time, might be limited food options on the island, so have a plan and check out your options ahead of time.
