The food is Michelin quality and we tried salicorne (which taste like al dente pea vine) and tête de violon (fiddlehead is the English name and it tastes similar to asparagus) . Didn't get a chance to take a picture of my fiddlehead appetizer since I devoured it immediately! I tried to use Google Translate to understand the menu but the friendly waitress was more than happy to explain it to me in English. Another bonus - it's a family friendly restaurant and although they don't have a kids menu (let's be honest, they are usually bad anyway). They offer half portion for the kids which works out better anyway!

They were very accommodating and let us sit at the bar on a very crowded Friday evening. You could watch the chef and two sous chefs prepare all the meals. They had a very interesting menu although we were tired and it was late and we just got a hamburger and they very graciously made up a green salad for my wife. The hamburger was one of the best I've ever had. It had bacon and onion rings on it with a wonderful sauce and came with a salad and, of course, french fries. My wife had a great green salad. At the bar you can watch them prepare all the meals. If you're American and a bit squeamish you may not like the fact that they seem to mix all the ingredients without gloves are washing their hands. You had the sense that they were very proud of the food they were serving. We were staying in a hotel around the corner which was a bit creepy and this was a wonderful respite. There seem to be a lot of restaurants in this area but not a lot with great reviews. This is definitely worth stopping in for a great meal.

English: As someone who has enjoyed a lot of Korean food in the US, and although not the best I've had, it is authentic. I was pleasantly surprised to find food like this in Rimouski, and was honestly expecting much less than what it ended up being. The place is cute, and I would recommend parking on the side if you're there on a weekday after 6pm as there is 90 minute free parking. The servers aren't Korean, but I do think the owner or chef is. The prices are steep, but it makes sense considering how difficult it is to get these ingredients out here in Rimouski. The portions, however, are significantly smaller than any other Korean place I've been (except for the bibimbap). I wanted to give this place 3 stars because I didn't love the food as much as I usually do Korean but I have to keep in mind the context of Rimouski and I think it deserves props for what it does here. Here's what I tried: -Takoyaki: 7.5/10 - Crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, topped with a savory sauce and mayo. The octopus pieces on the inside are a bit rubbery (as all octopus is), which is just not my personal preference, but they were good! -Bibimbap (with bulgogi and gochujang): 8/10 - The egg on top was perfectly runny, and there were so many vegetables on top (more than even some other Korean places I've been in the US!). They don't have as much freshness and flavor as I would prefer, though. The meat portion is very small, so just keep that in mind. The bibimbap comes out in a hot bowl so the rice on the bottom gets nice and crispy, and the gochujang sauce adds some good flavor on the side. -Dak-Kal-Bi: 6.5/10 - I wanted to get excited about this, but I was disappointed a bit by the flavor profile. I needed more flavor, but it was still foods. The chicken had a bit of a spice to it that I enjoyed, and the rice was perfectly steamed. It came with 3 banchan (Korean side dishes), which I did thoroughly enjoy.

The portions are immense, so either make sure you're super hungry or sharing with someone else. The fries are spot-on cooked to perfection, the gravy is just right (not too salty, not too liquidy) and of course the best part is the fresh squeaky cheese curds! And they are not shy about how much of this yummy white cheese they put on the portions. If you have never had a real poutine made with real squeaky cheese curds, then you're just plain missing out. We opted for the original creation, altho this location does offer alllllll kinds of poutine creations. My brother is a big guy (6'4") and a big eater, but he could barely finish his large order. He lives in Western Canada and stated that "they don't know what they're doing out there!" after eating this traditional Quebecoise poutine! I had a small and it was just right for my appetite. The eat-in space is small but cozy and not meant for a lengthy stay. The area is kept clean and tidy. Parking is okay, but can be sparse since the adjoined parking lot is small-ish. Good thing they offer drive-thru service, which our family use and prefer. Their feedback is that this mode of take away is always fast, friendly and delicious. Wheelchair accessible spaces. Bathroom is clean. Kudos to the VERY kind and VERY efficient team members who were working when we popped into the resto. They were willing to try their best at speaking English with my brother. He appreciated that! Merci! Thank you! This is the best of 4 poutine places we've tried in during our visits to Quebec, and it is ranked as number 1 in our experience!

English: Le Matelot is one of my longstanding favorite seafood spots in the Rimouski region. The servers are always very kind, and the location is beautiful. Make sure to reserve ahead of time since it is almost always full, and especially if you want one of the tables that looks over the St-Lawrence (the view is incredible). Make sure to get: -Cheesy Garlic Bread (with or without shrimp): 9/10 - SO good, so cheesy, so rich, so delicious. A real treat. -Lobster!!!: Boiled 9/10, Grilled 10/10 - The grilled lobster is absolutely exquisite, as it is less watery and has a more concentrated, smoky flavor. The boiled is absolutely great as well. As someone with NOT a small appetite, I either go for a 2 pounder or for the special with 2 small lobsters (you can get one grilled and one boiled to compare!). Lobster looks big until you realize that there isn't much flesh to actually eat. Dip that lobster into delicious garlic butter and wow, no words. As for sides, they're not the star of the show. The rice isn't super flavorful, their fries are dissappointing, their salad is pretty good though, and you can also get a baked potato with sour cream (boring but does the job to fill you up). -Pudding Chomeur: 12/10 - Do NOT pass this up. I love pudding chomeur so much, and this one comes out warm, gooey, and so homey. The flavor is just like a comforting hug of sweet, caramelized fluffy goodness.

English: The food here, in my opinion, is pretty great. For Rimouski, it's hard to get much better. It's definitely on the expensive side, but this is a special outing sort of restaurant. My issue, however, and why I don't give 5 stars, is because the service was pretty slow. It took them a very long time to get to us to take our orders, and after we were done, even longer to pay. I understand that there is a lack of workers, but it was definitely not the greatest service. Additionally, since it is in a hotel, you can literally smell the pool from the restaurant. It's a bit of an odd combination. As for the food, I tried a few things: Paloma Cocktail: 8/10 - Sweet, but not too sweet. Didn't taste too much of tequila but was generous in its portion. Very beautiful. Foie Gras in Tandem: 7.5/10 - This is foie gras done two ways. I prefer pure foie gras cooked on a skillet, however this is the best "manipulated" foie gras I've had. I liked the round circles of foie gras better than the dome of foie gras parfait, simply because it was richer and had a more natural flavor in my opinion. I really loved the presentation of the appetizer, and how the plate came out with many different flavor combination: pickled onions, apple compote, pomegranate seeds, etc. Also, the little brioche toast it came with was absolutely adorable and deliciously decadent. Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes: 8/10 - I got it cooked rare, and it was cooked to perfection. It was small, but the right size for a filet mignon in my opinion, and while the poivre sauce it came with was not my favorite I've had, it was still super enjoyable to eat. The mashed potatoes were also super garlicky and buttery, which I adored, and even the wedge salad was tasty. I left satisfied, and overall, happy with the meal. The only note I'll add is that someone at our table got the rack of ribs, and noted that they were incredibly dry. Just something to keep in mind!

It was pretty good and the fries and Caesar that came with it were also good. My friend had the vegetarian pizza and liked it. Our only complaint with the restaurant was not about the food: it is that the pop music was so loud, people were shouting at each other at tables to be heard over the din. I feel old complaining about the level of music, but it didn't match the overall restaurant vibe and experience.
