They are rising up. I don't hear many good things on the principal & to tell you the truth she might want to change careers. Maybe a district super attendant position with no parent/student or human contact? She is above calling back or emailing a concerned parent. BUT the assistant principal, Ms. Chapman, does make up for the principals lacking. She is prompt & courteous. And I thought for a long time she was the principal as she is so involved. She truly loves her job. Many teachers are younger and thus less experienced but they are bright & excited to teach. Many AZ schools are doing this I hear to to pay less for their faculty. Is it true? Not sure. Anyways, one thing this school does & I LOvE them for it is play the national anthem every morning! Nothing like enjoying my days off & being filled with patriotic pride from my kids school down the street. The population is primarily Hispanic. Though many parents don't speak English they are very involved. All school concerts are always a hit. Family orientated for sure. The front office girls deserve an award. All indoor campus is also nice. Again, those front office rock stars, such as Grace, are the gatekeepers at the front of the school & protect our babies as they monitor who enters the building. My son reported that this teacher was kissing him and spanking him on his butt, and he told me similar behavior happened to other boys. What makes me even angrier is how Principal Angela Krenkel handled my complaint. I reported these serious concerns to her, and instead of taking what my child was saying with the level of urgency I believe it deserved, she minimized the behavior by telling me it could be a "cultural thing" because the teacher was from another country. Absolutely unacceptable. I asked her: If this teacher were spanking YOUR butt and kissing you without your consent, would you call it a cultural difference? Would he still be employed? Or would you immediately consider that inappropriate conduct and demand something be done? Yet when a SECOND-GRADE CHILD was reporting this behavior, somehow excuses were made. Even more disturbing to me, after I reported what my son said happened, this teacher remained at the school and was still teaching approximately a YEAR later. A YEAR. That means that after a parent came forward with allegations involving inappropriate physical contact with a young child, I saw a teacher I had reported continue to have access to children. I cannot adequately express how unacceptable that is to me. SHAME ON PRINCIPAL ANGELA KRENKEL. Shame on a school administrator who, in my experience, failed to take my child's allegations seriously enough. Shame on an administration that I believe should have prioritized protecting children rather than minimizing a parent's concerns. And shame on any adult entrusted with children's safety who hears a child report inappropriate touching and does not respond with the urgency that child deserves. Children do not have the same power adults have. They cannot hire attorneys, call the police, investigate their teachers, or stand up to school administrators. THEY DEPEND ON US TO PROTECT THEM. My son still talks about Mr. Sumayang and refers to what happened as the "bad things" his teacher did to him. Hearing my child continue to talk about this is heartbreaking. Eventually, I filed a police report and got law enforcement and detectives involved. The matter has been under investigation. I find it incredibly troubling that I had to escalate this outside the school system before I felt the situation was finally being treated with the seriousness it deserved. As a mother, I will always believe my child and advocate for him. I refuse to be intimidated or silenced when it comes to protecting my son. And unfortunately, my concerns about this school do not end there. My son has also struggled tremendously with reading and is academically behind. I deeply regret not researching the school's academic performance and state ratings more carefully before enrolling him. Parents, PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE ENROLLING YOUR CHILD HERE. Research the school's current state rating, test scores, reading and math proficiency, academic performance, and--most importantly--how its leadership responds when a child or parent raises a serious safety concern. I trusted this school to educate and protect my child. Based on what my family experienced, I regret ever placing that trust in them. Our children need adults who will speak when they cannot. Overall my son who is autistic likes the school and the teachers which is what matters most to me. Most everyone there that I've talked to has a similar experience. All the staff I've met are friendly and willing to help you with whatever problem or question you have. This year they just started implementing the 5 second rule for visitors in the office, 5 seconds meaning after a visitor walks in the office they will be met by someone working there and will be helped a son as possible. I've had serious incidents involving my 5th grade daughter where I raised concerns beforehand about potential bullying, safety concerns, and bathroom fights. Despite reaching out ahead of time the school failed to prevent these incidents and failed to notify me promptly. Another incident involving my 2nd grade daughter was similarly mishandled, with the school downplaying the severity and failing to report what truly happened when it happened. The lack of structure and the school's focus on tutus, wigs, pep rallies, spirit week and snowcones overcomes their focus on education, professionalism and safety. I expected a safe, academically driven environment for my daughters, and instead I've been met with disappointment, a lack of accountability and below grade level performance.

I put my all into my position, I took pride in helping my students reach their academic goals, meeting and many times exceeding their own expectations. The disconcerting and unbelievable issue that I have with Fowler School District, is that they only paid me half of my monthly salary. My monthly salary should have been slightly over $1200 a month, and I was bringing home slightly over $600 a month. I repeatedly contacted payroll and HR, to dispute the issue, and was either yelled at, transferred to another unknown employee, or completely ignored. I couldn't afford to quit at the time, and my heart would not let me quit on my students. So I struggled for months. Juggling payday loans, coming home to an empty refrigerator, being greeted by eviction notices at my front door. Not knowing what tomorrow would bring, I still got up, went to work, worked hard for my students, and held on until the end of that school year. Penny, from payroll assured me that I would receive a lump sum at the end of the school year, for all funds that I was shorted of, which was more than $3500. I never received my money. I was, however, evicted from my apartment, and left with a significant amount of debt that I accrued while trying to survive on just half of my salary. Fowler School District, gave me the run around until the statute of limitations ran out, so that they wouldn't legally have to pay me my salary. If you or anyone you know is seeking employment with Fowler School District, you should take my review to heart, and ask yourself, if this is an issue you would like to have to deal with personally.

When I asked how he knew that, he replied, "I looked it up on the internet." That was in November, so early in his Grade 2 year. The administration and their staff are conscientious and eager to accommodate the needs of students, parents, teachers and the community. They are excellent.
