The Cannon Ball House can be visited by appointment or on a few select dates. Typically those dates include: the Sunday of President's weekend, 2-4 pm, the Sunday closest to the anniversary date of the Battle of Springfield on June 23, 1780, 2-4 pm, the 3rd weekend in October, Sunday 12-4 pm and the first Sunday in December, 2-4 pm. The historical significance of the Cannon Ball House is that in June 1780 the British burned Springfield to the ground. The Cannon Ball House was just one of four homes that were not destroyed. During the course of the Battle of Springfield a Cannon hit the house and was lodged in the wall until it fell out in the 1920's. The home was originally an ochre color w/cream & dark green trim. There are no original pieces in the home but rooms have antiques and museum quality items that date to the Revolutionary War. Some Civil War items, early tools, battle dioramas, and a Colonial garden can be seen I would suggest this for those who have an interest in local history or the history of the American Revolution and/or the Civil War.

It's a great place to take kids, and admission is free! The museum has exhibits, hands-on interactive displays, a cool night theater show, and a children's discovery/play room. You could also observe many beautiful and exotic bird species fly to and fro around the bird feeders out back through a large window. Upstairs are classrooms and a small library area. There are many hiking trails, including the Sensory Trail, a child-friendly 0.3 mile loop with special sensory exploratory features such as talking kiosks, musical play, and garden structures. There is also a playground and picnic areas in the vicinity. In addition, if you care to explore other parts of this 2,000+ acre reservation, drive or hike to nearby Watchung Stable to see the horses and riders; and for sure visit the Deserted Village of Feltville, a can't-miss area of Watchung with historic buildings dating back to the 18th century, and is a cool stroll.

They have a park nearby too which is walking distance. The center itself is cool, has a kids toy play area, a reading section and another section to learn of different animals - fake and real. Lots of parking in the area and when you're done, there is food nearby, about 15 minutes away. Definitely recommend if you are on a budget because family trips get expensive.

Usually a nice enough place to forget life. I have a Stubs Plus membership so for $30/month, I can…read moresee 4 movies free a week which is 16 movies a month. The theaters are currently swarmed now with Wicked drones (the proletariat indoctrinated with marketing brainwashing) - even saw a pair dressed like the two lead simps. Witches buy popcorn. When I entered my non-Bewitched theater early, I joked to another of the few patrons there in the empty Nuremberg theater "why didn't you come dressed as Görring?" This went over better than my joke to the concession drones, asking if they're seeing a lot of brawls in the Wicked-screenings. Blank dumbfounded stares. Doesn't anyone remember laughter? So: two minor complaints at this evening's prematurely ended evening for my "free" ish flick: 1) A bossy short Dad and his son came and I was sitting in one of their seats - it was early. I cheerily explained I didn't wanted to crowd the person next to me but now I'd move. No big deal. That was until short stuff sternly ordered me to get up. "Get up!" 30 minutes before the film in a half empty theater as I was being unjustifiable polite. I said something lighthearted in response to the Sultan's Command and there were no problems - until after the homunculus sat down and then proceeded to pull up his furry bare stinky feet yogi style into his lap to do what any decent civilized man would do at any movie theater in front of his child and strangers: he began to pick his filthy feet. 2) After I got that bestial grooming tactic out of my mind after twenty minutes of ignoring it in my peripheral vision, then on the other side of me I heard the familiar "sppporitzzzclick" of a Good Ole Boy crackin' up a cold one. This is doubtless illegal - at first I ignored it but after his second beer gassed up the area to a dive bar level stench miasma, I left the theater early. I wondered as I escaped the Hollywood whitewash flick (I was buying Russell Cow's twinkling eyes), whether Mountainside staff would have done a thing if I had reported the primitivist or the drunks. It's why I typically only attend movies that are sparsely populated by the Great Unwashed. Jean Paul Satre said it about - that quote about what other people are.

I've been to the one in Red Bank but never to the Westfield one. It is quite spacious, and even though it was pretty crowded, there was plenty of space to move around and to play every game that you wanted to. The pricing was super reasonable - I got each of my kids wristbands and paid at the end. We were probably there for about an hour and 45 minutes and for both of them it cost me $31.00. Not bad at all. They played so many games - from old school Ninja Turtles, to The Simpsons, to Paper Boy, to duck hunt, to skee ball, to pool, to air hockey, and the coolest Atari pong table I've ever seen - they had SO much fun. The workers were very kind and helpful. They set up one of the consoles for them to play on. They played a little Minecraft (though none of them knew what they were doing). They workers even helped them a little, which was very kind since it was so busy. We will definitely stop by again, it was so much fun, I might even play next time!
