Echo Lake Park has just about everything you'd ever want in a park. It has a Dog Park, Fishing, Fitness Trail, Ice Skating, Pedal Boats, Picnic Areas, Playground, Restrooms, Sledding, Snack Bar, Soccer and Softball fields, a beautiful lake with a gazebo and a water wheel. It also houses the Union County 9/11 Memorial. We strolled around on Saturday and enjoyed the scenery, especially the very pretty views of the lake.

This paddle boat house provides life jackets. Paddle boats can be rented for $10 per hour.

Large local park in a valley surrounded by several hills. Echo Lake Park has several scenes appropriate for special occasion and everyday photography. My parents used to take us kids here to fly kites, enjoy picnics, and play. Nowadays, I take walks and hikes, ride the pedal boats, and sway on the adult swing set... wheeee! Echo Lake runs along the length of Park Drive. Going southwest on Park Drive from Springfield Avenue towards Mountain Avenue, Echo Lake has two parts to the left of the road on each side of an old gazebo and sometimes spinning waterwheel. A few times a year, the the county or town stocks the lake for freshwater fishing. The boathouse near the second part of the lake sells some basic snacks (burgers and hotdogs I have yet to try) and pedal boats that can seat up to 4 people for $10/hour (life jackets included). Like common pedal/paddle boats, the 2 seats in the front have pedals while the 2 in the back don't and ride backwards. There's a another lake further down the road on the right, past a dog park, with some surface water plants. Past that, on the same side of the street, is a good-sized field for flying kites, frisbee, and doing cartwheels. There are plenty of areas to go sledding in the winter. This park has a picnic area of 8 wooden tables and benches and a few BYO charcoal grills on the left before Echo Lake and another picnic area with 12 more tables down the road on the right. While usable, the tables are in a little bit of disrepair. I suggest bringing clippable or elastic table covers. A convenient park feature is that there are brick-and-mortar and portable restrooms throughout but not too obtrusive to the scenery. A recent addition is the Union County September 11 Memorial honoring 60 Union County residents killed in the 2001 attacks. This well-manicured area contains 2 girders that belonged to the World Trade Center and several park benches. In the summertime, Echo Lake Park and Clark's Oak Ridge Park host the Union County Summer Concert Series. I attended a couple of summer ago with lawn chairs and a blankie in tow, to see Jersey's best cover band, the NERDS.

Great park to take a stroll or go on a paddle boat. Well kept, safe and clean. They have a doggie park area too.

It's a great place to take kids, and admission is free! The museum has exhibits, hands-on interactive displays, a cool night theater show, and a children's discovery/play room. You could also observe many beautiful and exotic bird species fly to and fro around the bird feeders out back through a large window. Upstairs are classrooms and a small library area. There are many hiking trails, including the Sensory Trail, a child-friendly 0.3 mile loop with special sensory exploratory features such as talking kiosks, musical play, and garden structures. There is also a playground and picnic areas in the vicinity. In addition, if you care to explore other parts of this 2,000+ acre reservation, drive or hike to nearby Watchung Stable to see the horses and riders; and for sure visit the Deserted Village of Feltville, a can't-miss area of Watchung with historic buildings dating back to the 18th century, and is a cool stroll.

Really friendly staff gave the kids a scavenger hunt page that turned our visit into part garden tour, part treasure hunt. Between the terraces, tile work, grottoes, and gardens, the whole place blends European formality with a whimsical, art nouveau vibe. Plenty of benches invite you to sit and talk, while fenced-in chickens, geese, and beehives bring the grounds to life. The gardens feel peaceful, playful, and magical all at once. The beauty here is truly un-beleaf-able! NOTES/TIPS: **Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors/students, and $5 for kids, with free parking close by. **Very limited wheelchair-accessibility: okay for the Main Terrace and some flat areas, but most paths are sloped or uneven, so access is limited. **Restrooms near the entrance.

It is definitely somewhere to go for a romantic date . The only issue I found with the place is that we couldn't find the gift shop or the little concession stand - coffee and snack . Benches for eating are at the entrance located close enough to watch your kids playing basketball or on the playground. This playground is neat... truly a castle inspired theme. Great for playing peekaboo with your toddlers with many mazes to get lost in and still be sure your child is safe and can't fall out the sides (too easily). There's also a slide that can be climbed which my son was very intrigued with, once he got to the top he'd jump on the big boy slide and come out the other end, he's 14 months so there's really so much for him to explore. There's also bigger slides for older kids, different monkey bars to climb, kiddie and big kid swings, little castles with benches and tables to picnic in, and plenty of benches surrounding the playground for parents to hang out in. We lived up to our mantra: PLAY HARD NAP HARD! Baby was knocked out as soon as we got in the car so I must say it was a good day. My name is Francis and I approve of this playground.
