The building has a huuuuuuuge ventilation problem, If you have chronic issues like allergies or asthma or just simply care about your wellbeing you must really stay away from this place. The street (a loud and busy one) facing side is especially a nighmare because you constantly have to choose between maddeningly loud street noise and asphyxiation. Only after I moved out have I realized how bad my sleep quality had been during my time there. The constant noise and bad air quality really wear on you with time.
Using the washing mashines (there are only 2 of them for ca. 80 residents) costs twice as much as it should and they do not produce enough capacity for the residents. It is always a struggle to catch them unoccupied.
Regarding the apartmens: The furniture is [in terms of stlye] from early 2000s and sort of blend in with the super ugly pinkish colour of the walls and make you feel more like you are in a cheap hotel room than home. Given all this, the well-above-average rental price is really not justifiable.
My shower was also a catastrophy. Okay you do have to do some maintenance work in order to keep the shower drain functioning BUT you have to do 10x work with the installation here. It is as if the drainage is a living organism that constantly produces dirt and clogs itself. Also, expect to be burnt and frozen while you shower. The water temperature made sudden (and extreme) peaks and dips every time I showered and this was never fixed despite efforts of the landlord.
Worst of all: The air exhauster leaks out stale air from other appartments. In other words, you instantly know if your neighbor is smoking or just shit.
Another anoying thing was the fact that the 4-story building has a perfectly functioning elevator that is NOT meant for the student's use.
The reason is there are penthouses on the rooftop which the owner apparently rents out seperately from the dorm. Therefore the elevator shuttles between levels -1/0 and the rooftop, exclusively for penthouse residents, without being of any help for the students. Carrying bags up over several stories had been a huge problem when going to/ coming from longer trips, and during move-in/out. Though it only added to the overall unfrinendliness of the atmosphere. The house management comes after you for every little fault and is ready to fight you for it while there are no visible efforts to improve the life quality of the students. Yet, [upward] fluctuations in the maintenance costs are mercilessly projected to your rent on yearly basis.
To sum up, I believe that this one here is a 'sick building' as they call it in air conditioning, and was designed either stingly with only profit in mind or by a drunken architect. Don't be fooled by the location. Even your last choice can't be worse than this one. Go live in a WG, rent on private, whatever... read more
