Date of visit: May 27, 2025…read more I wanted to bring back some pasta for my employees and rather than hitting up a tourist spot featuring overpriced pasta shaped like gondolas, I found a grocery store where locals were more likely to buy their pasta. There was a decent selection of pasta at a very good price, with several brands outside of the store brand available for purchase. The store was clean and in good condition; really the only things that I didn't like was the unfriendliness of the person staffing the self-checkouts (no greeting or acknowledgement at all) and that despite the checkout having an English option, the receipt still printed in Italian. Seems like an easy fix!

None of the staff was very welcoming or willingly looking to provide customer service. They do have a good selection of local products available. One weird thing for me being American was. They kept their eggs on shelves instead of the cooler section. I will say one thing that made this place a "Do not return" spot for me was the there was several rotten fruits and vegetables left mixed in with the others. You can tell they had been there for days and no one checks. They charge for bags here so keep that in mind and plan accordingly. I will say I like the hrs of operation.

They could be a little bigger, but this is a nice grocery store located right by the Castelbarco…read moretram station. It's also just around the corner from the Bocconi campus. They have the basics in dry and refrigerated groceries, plus some take-and-bake and ready to eat options. There's focaccia, chicken, and salad if you need to be on the go. Prices seem to be standard. In addition to the typical line, they also have self checkout kiosks, which can make this a quick trip. I appreciate the convenience of popping in just for a cheap bottle of tea and not having to wait around.

Candy and snack items include Whoppers, an assortment of candy bars, 'Bertie Bott's every flavor beans', Twinkies, those tiny powdered sugar covered donuts, flaming hot Cheetos, HOT salsa and cheese sauce to dip your chips. Some of the available grocery items include evaporated milk, pumpkin pie filling, cranberry sauce, cake mixes and frosting, salad dressings, jerky (dried meat), pickles, pancake mix, marshmallow 'Fluff' and 'Quick' chocolate milk powder. Although not an American item, they also have 'Vegemite'. Even though prices are higher than in a grocery store 'state side', it's nice to have the availability of grocery items to make recipes that would otherwise be unavailable. It's also a nice way for an Italian to get a taste of some American foods, or to remember some items they tried while on vacation.

Like many of the large Esselunga stores, it offers its own coffee bar (Bar Atlantic) and aisles of produce, dairy, snacks, a bakery, frozen foods, household items, etc. In all my visits, I've never had to face too many crowds. I lucked out during Carnevale weekend...I thought it would be jam-packed on a Sunday afternoon, but lucky for me, it was only me and a handful of other customers shopping during that time!
