Great atmosphere. The fried pickles were actually the best we have ever had. Very much worth the wait

You will be impressed, at least I was. I come from a long…read moreterm love of Vietnamese food and this only made my love grow stronger. Get off on Hackney Central overground and walk here to be amazed with delicious options from Pho, to crunchy noodles and sweet and sour options. Veggies are gonna be in heaven since there is a vegetarian option with tofu for anything you want. We came here for lunch and chose from the Lunch menu deal (£8), this includes an individual appetizer and a main course. I had the vegetable soup (which was not memorable, and that's probably why the fifth star is missing) and a sweet and sour chicken with rice. Dishes came fast, and we were so impressed by the taste that the table was silent for about 15 min. You know what they say: "when the food is good, you eat in silence" - this should say something about Tre Viet! ;)

Tre Viet is one of the many Vietnamese restaurants on Mare St. in Hackney. For me it is definitely…read moreone of the best. I think what sets it apart from the others is it ambiance. Unlike a lot of other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, Tre Viet Has taken the time to decorate the interior with care. The lighting is perfect, and the bamboo that hangs from the ceiling is overwhelming in a nice way. The decoration is busy, there is a lot of it, which I think gives it a cosy kind of feeling, and does not risk feeling like too much. The food is good, not exceptional, but very reasonably priced. For a starter I had the 'soft shelled crab'. I have had this dish a number of times, both good and bad, they do it well at Tre Viet, with a decent amount of spice. For a main course I had 'Beef with chilli and lemon grass'. One again, I have had this dish a good few times. The dish had a great flavour, which is very important, but I found the meat was scarce and was not of the best quality. Overall, I was satisfied with the food. I guess you have to remember that you get what you pay for, and you really do at Tre Viet with the average main course costing around 7 pounds. Unfortunately, the main courses came with an interval of a few minutes between the four dishes we ordered, the last one coming ten minutes after the first. It was forgivable, but if forgiveness in not in your nature then it might be a problem as they offered no compensation. The Restaurant is B.Y.O alcohol which is nice, and there is an off-licence conveniently situated across the road. It is open 7 days a week until about 10pm.

This place looked busy, with an exposed brick hipster vibe but more importantly lots of delicious smells coming from the kitchen, so we stayed! The staff are amazingly friendly - the girl on front of house was so welcoming, and explained it's BYOB as they've lost their license due to a mix-up. Music to our ears! After a quick dash over to the Sainsbury's we were all happily cosied up in a booth with some very reasonably priced vino :) The service continued to impress, with our waiter doing that nonchalant I don't need to write anything down thing (and getting it spot on). The food was also fresh and tasty which always helps, and my goi ga chicken noodle salad was just the flavours I'd been craving. The others all got steaming hot bowls of pho that were slurped down happily around me too. Given we got a steal on the drinks it was all very reasonably priced for the healthy portion sizes, even after over-ordering starters to share. What topped it off for me was they even let us sit there nattering away for ages as we polished off the wine until what must've been past closing, cleaning up around us but never once making us feel like we had to hurry up and leave. Thank you!

It's authentically fresh and vibrant in flavour. I shared a few fishes. The chicken wings are probably the best I've had in London. Coated wonderfully. The main soup bowls are great in size and they don't hold back on the spice which I like. A proper Vietnamese coffee is a great way to end the meal. Condensed milk is just so good in coffee.
