There were certainly plenty of Japanese speaking customers mixed in with Portuguese. And I, the odd tourist, felt right at home. The bamboo shoot and shitake mushroom appetizers were delectable. The chicken broth ramen was insipid. The Gyukatsu Kare (breaded fried beef with curry sauce over rice) was better, but not the ultra crispy panko planks I've had in some places. Maybe it was because I ordered it at the end of the night. The Brazilian brewed cold sake was really good. Could hardly tell the difference from Japanese sake. But, the highlight of the dinner of Sanma Shio--grilled pike mackerel with sea salt. Inexpensive for Sanma, uber fresh, grilled crispy so that you could crunch up the head and tail! The service was prompt, efficient and very warm. Even the owner came by to chat several times. Arigato gozaimasu! Obrigado! Thank you.

Something to keep in mind if you're considering going here and you're a visitor. Other than that, the food is pretty standard izakaya fare- not that much of a Brazilian influence from what we could tell. And we're very familiar with the genre (tons of these in the NYC) so we knew what to expect. The food is pretty tasty and the service was pretty good. The restaurant kinda feels like you walked into someone's kitchen which is pretty interesting. But overall we've actually had much better Japanese food. So there's that. But not a bad option if you're looking for something completely different in São Paulo.

All you can eat salmon sushi...what's not to love?!…read more A group of 5 of us came here around opening team and were seated right away. We couldn't speak or read Portuguese, but a waiter was kind enough to bring over a guy who spoke English. He recommended several dishes from the menu, which we wholeheartedly agreed to even though we didn't know what we were ordering. I have no idea what we got to this today, but they were all so yummy! Another waiter came by every so often with rolled sushi. I'm a big fan of salmon, and for the price of around $20 USD, this place is definitely worth your buck!

As…read morethe name of the restaurant makes it very obvious, since Sarumon means salmon in Japanese, you cannot even find prawn or other common fishes in Japanese restaurants in there. More than gullible would you be to think that this would make the menu very castrated or lacking variety. From cevive to grilled salmon, passing through marvelous combination such as salt flower and truffle olive oil sushi. I also came across the sake sangria. Such a marvelous sweet deliciousness. Very fresh, perfect combination for lunch. Highly recommend the place, staff is so friendly and helpful, you can repeated anything as much as you want (sangria is apart, obviously, but the jar costed only 35 reais), the only option is eat as much as you want for 75 reais, which in my point of view is a bargain for what you get. Even the yakizoba has salmon, but if you want a la carte, the only option is yakizoba, which you can have only with vegetables in case you don't like salmon, although going there without enjoying the salmon treats is the biggest waste anyone can possibly think about.

Would never, but glad I tried! Place is an oasis for good looking females, oooh and the food is decent, price too! On any given day I would dodge places like this because it's not authentic, way too crowded, fish, sushi, sashimi, drenched in sauces to hide the fish. TIP: you can order temakis open faced, that's right! Like a mini chirashi, just ask for "aberto" as for open, also when ordering a temaki, order your fish to be cubed instead of ground (regular). They do offer wasabi that's already mixed with soy sauce and it comes in a liquid soap dispenser, pretty good, it will kick you're a$$! Service can be hit or miss, but passed 2am, who gives a sh*t?!

Having lived half a block away for two years and indulged in both, hopefully I can clear things up. There are three Naga(yama) restaurants owned by the same group right next to each other across from the Shell station on Bandeira in Itaim. While all three restaurants offer high quality sushi, they cater to different audiences with different menus at different price points. Located in between Nagayama Cafe and the upscale Naga, Nagayama is the more family oriented of the three restaurants with a stereotypical Japanese decor and broader menu of Japanese food. Come here with your friends who have kids and sit in the back at the table which is up a tiny set of stairs so you can see over the bustling little restaurant. Try the tempura for starters and continue on to teriyaki if you can't stomach raw fish or for a healthier touch delight your tastebuds with a classic sashimi plate. Personally this is my least favorite of the three restaurants, but they were extremely accommodating when we came with out of town friends who had their baby with them. It's still generally on point for fish quality but not as exciting as the other two. All three restaurants are expensive though perhaps at this one you can get full spending slightly less.

On March 8th, I took a friend to dinner at Osaka Restaurante, located at Rua Amuri, 234, Jardim Europa, São Paulo. While I want to emphasize that the service was good, we were disappointed to see a flying cockroach in a restaurant where we paid nearly 900 Brazilian Reais for our meal. The manager did kill the cockroach outside of the establishment, I have to tell you this experience was not pleasant. I hope the restaurant management takes the necessary measures to prevent such issues in the future. As a result, I will be giving this review one star.
