    Thank you Dana!
    Vincent M.

Through 14 years and 28 marathons I've chased my goal of a BQ time and running Boston. I Got close a few times but no joy! I knew I needed to train differently and I also was plagued with cramping at mile 21 or 23, which always forced me to hold back. Two years ago I decided I needed a running coach and after some google searches and interviews I settled on Dana and UltraU. I liked her approach, she was hands on, she didn't just give me weekly training assignments (I could get that anywhere), but reviewed the results and tailored the program based on those results. She also focused on a complete plan that included nutrition and hydration, which I thought I was doing well, but was not. The last marathon I ran pre Dana was a 4 hour time and I needed a 3:30 to qualify and my PR was a 3:41 (7 years prior). With Dana's help and a lot of hard work, I hit a 3:29:40 in Phoenix and beat my BQ time by over 5 minutes. I did the hard work to be sure, but I could not have made it without Dana's guidance, passion and coaching. She is awesome and so passionate about the sport and her clients.

Fast forward 2 years. I have no balance, I have height issues, I am scared silly of falling again. I entered Urban Pilates scared to death and certain I would not be a good fit. But I KNEW I needed to get my balance back. I have been doing personal sessions and after only 4 classes, I can feel my confidence (and my balance!) coming back. I am very thankful that I discovered Urban Pilates and I cannot recommend them enough, especially if you have any health issues that you think might hamper your ability to do this form of exercise. I got the grand luck to get Renata as my instructor and she is WONDERFUL (so encouraging) but I hear the other instructors and they seem very positive too. This was just what I needed!

The first one was an All Level Mat Class which I felt was challenging but fun. The second class I've tried was the Spring Conditioning and that really kicked my butt. I've attended other cross-fit type classes that this was definately better than those. The instructor gave variations and the class catered to all levels of fitness. It's a small studio where you're going to get personal attention and not feel overcrowded. I can't two to take my next two classes!

After the first class I was hooked. Booty Luv is an awesome combination of dance, Pilates, yoga (plus some other stuff). It is SO fun, the hour flies by. There is upbeat music and an exciting atmosphere. Throughout the workout she explains what area you're working and why. It's an incredible work out that burns fat & builds lean muscle but also helps with flexibility and stability. (Which I need all of!) Heather's X Cycling classes and Pilates classes at ME are also highly recommended! The X Cycling class is cool because it's 30 minutes of cycling and 30 minutes of light weights, an effective way to spend an hour. I have worked with Heather as a personal trainer as well recently and it was a positive experience. She really listened to what I was hoping to accomplish and took into account that I had a lower back injury and had not worked out in a while. With that she created a personalized program that I'm still following, even after I had completed all my sessions. Heather's knowledge and communication style is topnotch. I have learned so much from her and have adopted a much more active and healthy lifestyle. I always leave her class or training feeling really good and excited to go back.

After much finding in the Portland metro area, we were SO HAPPY to stumble upon Intrepid. We go 2-3x a week for our schedules. The owners Ruth and Sean put in a tremendous amount of effort ensuring that every experience you have seems like you're a new client, when you show up each and every time, whether or not you've been going there for years or days. I appreciate the fact that they don't assume you just know everything and they really provide COACHING rather than passive guidance. They know each and every persons strength and weaknesses, and make everyone feel comfortable. I am also always astonished by the variety in the workouts, and all the coaches really provide great instruction, whether it's Ruth and Sean, the owners, or the other two coaches, everyone's amazing. You should come to Intrepid if you're looking for community as well. Everyone let's you be who you are but there's always opportunities to have pot lucks, celebrate people, and have fun during class or after class. Just come as you are, and at at whatever fitness level, you will be really glad you stepped into Intrepid. You'll never leave.

To me, there are "focus areas" for any gym business. Possible Priorities: 1. Member Safety 2. Quality Coaching 3. Business Process management 3a. Member confidentiality 3b. Staff management 4. Investment in new coaching skills and equipment 5. Quality Review and Continuous Improvement My "positive" experience at Intrepid relates to my multiple drop-in visits while in town on business. On each of my visits, I was received professionally and politely each time. My biggest concern, and gripe relates to an early November 2018 incident, where one of their staff sent out a "survey" to current and past members. Intrepid PDX openly published my email address to almost 700 people - instead of hiding it in a BCC to protect my privacy. I have followed up multiple times to the originator of the survey without response - or an apology. I've also requested my name be removed from Intrepid's database, and my request was also ignored. When I'm visiting Portland on business, I have several choices for CrossFit - and I was hoping Intrepid would be my gym-away-from-home. But I won't be back. While mistakes happen, I've reached out three times to the staff member and ownership to share my concerns and didn't receive a response. "Just remove my name and personal data from your database - if you cannot manage my personal information with discretion." That's all I can ask at this point - because your staff member already broadcast my email address to 700+ people. Oh, and she also broadcast the email addresses of every current and past customer I might add (Yikes!). Generally, from my experience, the customer list of any business is a sacred asset to be protected. I wonder, if I were to post the survey originator's email address here ... perhaps then she'll grasp the importance of privacy. Or at least be courteous enough to admit the mistake and remove my contact information from Intrepid's database.

On the positive side, the staff were consistently friendly, kind, and clearly care about the dogs. They created a welcoming environment, and we appreciated their kindness. Unfortunately, the experience itself didn't quite work out for us. Our dog is an intact male, and he ended up in a group with all females, one of whom had recently gone through a heat cycle. The facility allows females who have recently been in heat, but unfortunately their scent just isn't conducive to a group social setting like this, especially for young intact males. The first week this happened we assumed it was just a temporary challenge and gave it the benefit of the doubt, but the issue continued during our next session. The scent was simply too distracting for him- and even other females were distracted by the scent. Our dog who normally socializes well in other group settings, became too fixated and overstimulated for any type of learning or appropriate social interaction. We really tried to give this facility a fair shot and came back again hoping for a better experience, but ultimately our dog had to remain leashed the entire session time, which completely defeats the purpose of a social/play session. We have now found a facility with stricter guidelines around females in heat.
