Ridiculous rules, nickel and dime you to death, first time I went in there were extremely condescending so I walked out.

Signed up for a CLP refresher class to renew my license in September. Went through all the paper work and online registration. During that process it tells me I can rent a gun of theirs or bring my own. I selected to bring my own and had to tell them what I was bringing along with all their rules. Fine. The class was about a hundred bucks and was suppose to last 4 hours, with classroom instruction, it didn't. First, they rescheduled me, fine. Then the day before the class I get an email stating I could not use my own gun and would have to use one of theirs, a 22cal. Glock, something I would neve own or shoot. Now the class cost about $100 which I paid online. But when I get there to use their gun they charged me another $69 bucks. Which is never stated on the communications. Talk about a hidden up charge. Overall the class was a joke concentrating only on rudimentary gun safety and silly shooting scenarios. When I got there I had to take a 3 page paper exam from and old NRA manual that was basically outdated. Keep in mind, I've had my CPL for 10 years and served in the US Army. Two things I did notice was the only male on their team seemed to come across a very arrogant and the lady leading the show treated everyone like they were 12 years old. She also had enough shiny bling on her fingers it would have blinded a rich rapper. Finally, the 4 hour class what was supposed to last till 11pm winded at ending around 8:30, It started a 7. They are a scam and just going after the money. I will never go back. read more

First time here at UPFTA and I must say that this business is all about safety. From talking to Mary on the phone, Upon entering the building, classroom and shooting, there was nothing but professionalism. SAFETY was the number one concern for everyone. They ask questions and are pretty friendly. Angela, our instructor, was clear, precise and very knowledgeable with the information and training. She made sure that things were done right and was polite about it. My wife and I had a couple of training sessions with UPA. We were going to do a third session when we opted to part ways with UPA permanently. Ultimately, it was the lack of professionalism that caused us to seek training elsewhere. Professionalism is much more than being respectful. What I mean by that is that contradictory communication is a demonstration of a lack of professionalism. Not knowing if your business is actually following the requirements put forth by a regulatory body is a lack of professionalism. Incorrectly identifying if a student has signed or submitted a waiver for training is a lack of professionalism. Not properly training and then correcting your range officer on the "UPA way" in front of the class demonstrates a lack of professionalism. Repeating your resume a dozen times in a 90 minute class demonstrates a lack of professionalism (imagine your doctor kept telling you how long he's been a doctor and where he went to medical school). UPA gives the impression of a used car sales operation, and that impression never improved for my wife and I after a few interactions. They like to talk like they are the best out there, but the fact is that if that were true they wouldn't need to have a no-refunds policy. At least do your research and ask questions before giving this poorly run small business any money. read more

This place will pressure you into buying classes like there is no tomorrow and Ammo ! I happen to miss my 150$ class and god forbid would not give me a penny refund! The instructor for the AR Class I took was great. But the up front people are unreasonable and only want your money. Avoid at all cost. read more

Let me start by saying I would break this review into two parts. The actual class and instructor of the class and the practice, owner, and shooting instructor. I took a class with some girlfriends and it was a nightmare from the start. Before signing up, we had explained that we wanted a basic class to teach us about guns, safety, etc. we were told multiple times that we had signed up for the right class only to find out there was a beginner class (we had not signed up for it). We are also in a global pandemic right now. As soon as we talked in we were told masks were optional. We all expressed our concern and even asked our instructor Al, to please put on a mask for our safety and his. Not only did he avoid the question, give excuses and say it was our choice to wear a mask, ultimately refused to put a mask on the entire day. I do want to note that Mary was very respectful and did put a mask on around us. When asked why it wasn't stated before coming that masks were optional, Al told us because he didn't have to tell us. It was awful. The first hour of the class was Al telling us how great this place was. Whenever someone would ask a question, Al was very disrespectful about it. He was negative, made us feel silly for asking the question, and ultimately tried to tell us any information we already had was wrong (not just about gun safety, but about anything). I am not sure if it was because we were women taking the class, younger then him, or what, but he treated us very poorly. Girls ended up leaving the class because of how disrespectful he was to us. He did not see the issue nor did he change his demeanor. I would not cone back to this place solely because of Al. Everyone else was very friendly, welcoming, and warm. The class was 8 hours (we later found out most classes are 6). The first 5 hours were videos, articles, and Al questioning our education. Honestly, the first 5 hours could have been condensed into about 2-3. The last 2-3 hours were better. We learned more about the laws, safety, and actually got to shoot. This was the most important and useful part of the day. I was not impressed with the class or this business. If Al is teaching the class, I would not recommend signing up. He was very hard to work with. Mary and the others were very friendly, kind, respectful, and easy to work with. read more

I would imagine there are not a lot of repeat customers, that's just my opinion Besides the instructor saving the day, everything else was unprofessional, disorganized, and not ran like a smooth flowing operation what so ever. The instructor did excellent when the class finally got rolling. No sign on the door stating hours of operation. Sign could say "private classes only" "call for appointment"....."By appointment only, call XXX-XXXX" or just something!!! Cant tell you how many times i stopped there during normal biz hours and the place was locked up. Constantly point to "go to website"......we normally don't go to any website before going to ANY business at all. Who cares about led free? Its not a big deal so stop making it one. Payment - trying to pay for 2 people = 2 separate charges by UPA of the exact same amount, which throws alerts to the bank and locks down credit cards. UPA Swiped multiple times after that to lock my card down into a security alert which I had to go through the whole process with the bank to turn my card back on again. Next time Ring 2 people up under 1 tab, just like you would multiple items at ANY store. Payment - its rang up under some other name than the company's name which makes it look like a scam. Everyone is paranoid of getting their info stolen. Take the time to do it right Trying to get you to donate before you have even got your feet wet at the 1st class. Really? before your 1st class? come on now. Trying to get you to sign up to 30 more classes when i have no idea if ill even like it - its to pushy Text and emails were written without any type of punctuation, not professional at all. Seems like a child wrote it. This should be flyers with headers/ logo/ ETC Class day - no one knew what was going on, where to go, or what was happening. HIGHLY disorganized and unprofessional again. Class day - Told us we didn't pay (which we did), then told us we needed to pay for ammo (which was already paid for up front) No one needs that debacle The instructor saved the day and made that portion of it worth while, the vibe from all the other students seemed to match our energy. i doubt a majority of them will not continue on. Is it too hard to have someone greet you, hand you a flyer and guide you where to go? idk, is it? Put some effort into your business Its truly a shame, this could have been a good experience if the professionalism & organization was there. read more

I did not have a good experience at UPA the owner has zero social skills his lack of professionalism is the reason I will not return to this establishment the rest of the staff were very polite i guess one bad apple can spoil the bunch. On Today, 16 March 2024 I Took the CPL Certification Course and to Say the Very Least - It Was Highly Educational, Exciting, Thoroughly Safety Coordinated, and Exuded Professionalism on a Top Shelf Manor. As much as it Taught me the Value's and Importance of Gun Safety, it further Showed Me and all in Attendance why Gun Safety and Training is Essential, but also why Knowledge of Circumstances, Laws of Gun Usage, and a Balanced Grass Roots Respect for this Craft is Keenly Necessary. This Family Piloted by Allen and Mary Polkowski are the Nicest and Most Thoroughly Informed People I've met Dedicating their Live's to Gun Operations as a Whole. I stopped by, as a potential member, and was basically blown off by the person I was dealing with. I surely don't see a membership being worth the $1000.00 they wanted. They are closed all week, only open on the weekends, and are inundated with students taking CPL classes. I asked about ammo, and they said they could get me 1000 rounds of 9mm with no problem, (If I was a member). Too bad they refused to quote me a price, I'm sure it was because of their price gouging. I can buy a lot of range time, and ammo from places that are open 6-7 days a week, for $1000.00. Sorry I wasted my time checking out this range. read more

I genuinely cannot recommend the CPL class to anyone. It was a huge waste of money and time. Mary's husband, Al, was the one who taught our class, and the entire 8 hours was him sharing his political opinions, trying to upsell their training courses and products, and going off on unrelated/irrelevant tangents that had nothing to do with CPL laws, safety, requirements, etc. It was a big waste of time and i will have to seek out further professional training on the matter in order for me to actually feel safe in carrying a concealed pistol. It's very concerning knowing that this place gives certificates out at the end of the day when you barely even learned anything relevant to CPL safety and laws. You can even get help taking the test from your fellow classmates.... I would recommend you pass using this facility for this class and go elsewhere if you're actually serious about learning about CPL. read more

I am a senior who wanted to purchase a gun. I was very scared and did not want to be unsafe. Mary was so friendly on the phone that I could not wait to meet her. We've been here twice now for a gun safety class and a CPL class. Both times we felt that safety was their number one priority with excellent class info. The owners, Mary and Al , were very helpful and knowledgeable about guns and gun safety, and we never felt rushed. I had never shot a pistol before so I was pretty intimidated and nervous going in, but the instructors are very thorough about how to safely hold a gun, aim etc. etc. The CCW class was very informative and helpful, comes with a workbook. We had Nick for our second training class and he is very conscientious about safety and watchful for how you are doing and what you need to correct. He is very calm yet very thorough in his training. We felt very comfortable with his expertise. I think all their employees are very well trained and dedicated. They only use lead free ammunition as well. The facility is very clean and kept up nicely and there is an airlock into the range. Highly recommend their services. read more

I took the CPL class and was so disappointed. The owners are very nice, but kindness doesn't translate into efficient and effective. Fortunately for me I've had excellent training prior to now and only sought this course for a license transfer, otherwise I would have given no stars. So much time was wasted in this course watching videos from the 80's which were outdated and irrelevant when compared to some of the newer videos on the market for training classes. The vast majority of the day was spent not on gun safety, but rather on the services, merchandise and courses offered by the company. It was liken unto the time share sales pitch you are forced to sit through when you accept a free stay at a resort. The range itself is very small, tight and only has five lanes so the shooting portion took forever because students had to wait until everyone finished. The ammo they make you buy and use is trash! It caused our guns to jam repeatedly and we've NEVER had issues like that before. Then after keeping you there all day kicking out their sales pitches, once you finally get your certificate...they make a last ditch effort to push personal training on you as you're leaving. It was truly the longest 8 1/2 hours I've ever experienced! I will not be returning. read more
