(Not quite the happy image I started with...hhhmmmm). After much stroking of chins and 'it'll cost ya' type conversations, finally we met Mike who gave a quote to remove our Liquidambar which was MUCH more competitive. He turned up on the day (though a little later than first suggested) and the team set to felling our massive tree. The stump required a return visit the next day but at no extra charge - so happy all round - apart from the tree. Got tree issues then they're the solution.

Despite the popular belief that with a good attitude and mulch (not organic #fucksnails) you can create your own garden fantasy on your moderately priced and sized apartment rooftop. After concluding that the stench that seemed to follow me around was not my raging gonorrhoea, I did some serious digging (only the metaphorical type). The boys over at Northern Beaches Gardencare took a literal dig around my blooms, and found my dear lover rats (rest in peace angels, you will be missed. I hope you're in a cleaner place now), Anastasia and Christian i can only hope your nibbling on a nicer woman's veggie garden. Ryan at Northern Beaches Gardencare really put the care in Gardencare. This lovely man gave me, not only a shoulder to cry on, but a shoulder to nibble on. He pulled out his massive shears, starting with a slight trimming of the garden pine. Taking extra caution to not over-hydrate my sopping gardeniers, he still gave them a healthy dousing of fluid. He rounded out the trip with a full fertilisation to my tender flower, and not nine months later in the spring there were blooms. In simpler terms, I was his ho (Literal and metaphorical). You may have noticed the hesitance in my 5 stars, this was becuase despite the fantastic bush trimming this was not a Northern Beaches Gardencare at all but my neighbour Jeff who was unregoginsiable without glasses (Thanks alot specsavers).

Not just hard landscaping, fixing the path and edges but deep weeding and pruning. Chased wayward vines up trees, cleared fences then re-mulched. They trimmed just what was needed without taking too much off. They cleaned up perfectly, and didn't leave a trace. The reality is more hair-raising than meticulous: dangling forty feet in the air in a harness, wielding a roaring chain saw. I hope they know what they're doing. AUTS came to us via Mosman Council - they're one of two approved tree surgeons, which helps when you need work done in an area where the councils are notoriously reluctant to approve much pruning at all. With such limited 'approved' competition, I was expecting mediocre service and a council-influenced delicate cut-back effort, but I was pleasantly proven wrong. AUTS turned up as promised to quote and to complete the work. The prices were reasonable, and sharing the costs between neighbours was well-managed. Both the pruning efforts and the clean-up were comprehensive and efficient. Have already needed them twice, and would definitely call them again. Especially when people warn me how Angophoras are liable to "shed their limbs unexpectedly" !!??!?!
