I had a great experience at the Ulta the other week. I stopped in here with my dad to get a present for my sister, and we were having trouble looking for the KBeauty product she wanted. I asked an associate for help and she ran all over the store with us trying to help us find it. We finally did and she made me feel better I couldn't find it because they've changed up where everything had been, and was really great about it all. In the last two years, I have been visiting this location when I am in Highland, IN. They make things convenient when placing an order online for pick up. Staff is helpful and friendly and even when there is a line, it goes pretty fast. I love to peruse their clearance section where I always find some good buys there. They have a beauty salon that I would like to inquire to see if they do African American hair. The staff was nice. I had a perfume that had a problem, the top cap was busted and couldn't distribute perfume anymore. I only used a couple sprays before it broke. The Ulta team quickly re-ordered my item and took mine back. They didn't ask for a receipt because I had it on my credit card. I guess there's someway that they can look that up. The only thing that was upsetting is and maybe they didn't know, but the perfume company changed the bottle of their perfume. I had come in and gotten a beautiful bottle of perfume, and then the company changed their design and didn't tell anybody I guess. I came in looking for a product that was on sale, I wandered around looking for the display, several employees past me, none of them acknowledged me or asked if I needed help finding anything, I finally went to the Clinique counter, where there was an associate standing there alone, so I asked for help finding the makeup I was looking for, I had seen 3 of the products on a table, so asked where I could find others. I was in this Ulta store today and asked to be color matched. I'm a person of color and the first person I asked, who was greeting customers at the door asking how she could assist as people came in, was clearly uncomfortable and made a half-hearted attempt at actually helping...clumsily mumbling something about products being sheer, so the shade didn't necessarily matter? before awkwardly ending the exchange and walking away looking relieved. The 2nd person mentioned she had a product that she thought would be great....but didn't think they had many "dark color options" - I'm a medium complexion African American. The area where this Ulta operates is fairly diverse and to say I was appalled at the comments and lack of comfortableness in assisting all customers reflects very poorly on Ulta. I am very pleased with this location. We walked into this location only to purchase some Morphe setting spray and ended up somehow or another spending about $200. I can never get out of this store without trying a million things and buying at least half of them. Lol. My husband was trapped with me on this trip. But he ended up purchasing a lot of product for our daughter. I'm so proud of him! He is secure in his masculinity:) The store was clean and inviting. The customer service representatives were helpful and knowledgeable. The prices were comparable to other Beaty stores of its stature in the area and the location was excellent. I really appreciate the rewards program keeping me updated about coupons and discounts. It also gives me a monthly statement which is very helpful. I visited this ULTA for the first time while on Christmas break. First impressions mean everything. Both the cleanliness and service at this location are deplorable! Most Wal-Marts are more kempt than this store. (Please see my attached photos.) In addition, the cashier gave attitude when two BOGO items I tried to purchase were apparently not of the same brand. The items had been grossly stocked in the incorrect location. Sure, blame the customer. That makes sense! I hinted, "Well...if someone bothered to organize the store..." Then the cashier informed me that I qualified for a credit card. No way was I giving her any commission. Overall if you go in the store to shop there are friendly workers who ask if they can help, but that manager at the Willowbrook location has got to be the most unfriendly, unwelcoming, angry looking individual. She never smiles, never says hello, or thank you for shopping with us. She just walks around the store in an angry demeanor and pious manager complex and makes you never want to shop there again. PLEASE, PLEASE provide training for this poor woman. If you would only experience and probe and ask and monitor what does she do to bring in a welcoming culture? Customers return because of experience and if she continues to look like a bull dog and angry and mean - I will not go there again. I am a self-confessed product whore. Typically, Sephora bears the fruit of most of my product whoring, but Ulta takes the edge in one distinct place. Hair products. Oh, yes. Whilst my loyalty to Sephora runs deep as far as my cosmetic and facial needs go; Ulta rules the roost when it comes to the bonanza of products that line the walls of my oversize shower and bathroom closet. Side note: Did you know we were supposed to keep linens and towels in there? Neither did I. Now, I will admit that I like to change up my hair with an alarming rapidity. I introduce and swap out colors at a pace that leaves my go-to stylist on her toes and forever happy to see me. Admittedly, I've had to tone it down a bit now that I am teaching in a private (and more conservative) school but I can't help but to toss in some new colors every six weeks or so. And when you are coughing up your hard earned dollars for some super fresh color, you want to invest in products that will keep it fresh (at least until you change it up again). Enter Ulta. Ulta carries almost every hair product line I have ever had a yen to try out. They always have my straight up favorites, Alterna and Pureology, and a yummy smelling children's line that my daughter swears by for detangling her super thick and wavy mane (she hit genetic gold with that one). Ulta also carries makeup (both drugstore and upscale brands) and keeps me tight with my OPI fetish. All without having to trek all the way out to Orland and my most beloved Sephora. So why the three stars? 1. The salon. Wretched. When a salon can't even manage a blow out on straight hair? Go elsewhere. For reals. 2. The staff. Have a question? You better whip out your smart phone and google that shit because the staff here tend to be more of the, "Ummmm....gee. I'm not sure." and dart away variety. So straight up hair product bliss meets salon fail and far-from-knowledgeable employees. Three stars. Done. Oh! Don't forget to do a google search for Ulta coupons before you hit up the store. I am never greeted when I go into this store. I've seen people go in ahead of me and after me greeted, but I never am. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe it's just me. Perhaps the greeter only greets people who she thinks will spend a lot. It's off-putting and weird, and makes me paranoid I have spinach stuck in my teeth or something... Anyway... I go here primarily for the Benefit Brow Bar. The Brown Bar service is good, not spectacular. They neaten up my brows, but don't manage to quite give me the shape I ask for. I've had too many bad experiences at cheaper strip mall kinda places, so I just keep coming back here (for now). If you are looking for anything specific from any other departments in store, expect to have to hunt down an employee to help you - they all seem to either scatter or drift away when you're looking for help. They've lost at least three significant sales from me in the last six months because I couldn't find anyone to help me. Having said that, this Ulta has a better shopping experience than the nearest Sephora, which is abysmal. This store prevents me from having to go downtown, but I wish their customer service wasn't so lacking and their employees treated everyone equally. read more

Ok, so this store is always super busy. There was was a major difference between the ladies who were working in the hair Dept and the ladies who were at Lancôme, and Clinique major shout out to Amber at Clinique she was so sweet and helpful, super attitude without it being cringe or cheeseball. I've worked in retail my whole life mainly cosmetics and she seemed very genuine. Now when I went to the hair dept it was like snob city and the young woman who was helping me had very little knowledge of the products and told me to read what the description said. Thank God my Bf is a hair dresser so I already knew what I was looking for, I was just curious about some other products which I probably would've bought, but she definitely changed my mind on that. The girl I had was Autumn.She outlined them in two seconds and I said no I want to got for my natural look with my natural arch. There's no shape or anything. She drew a STRAIGHT line from the inside of my brow to the middle and waxed it. There's still hair underneath my brow that she didn't tweeze. I should've taken pictures of the makeup lines.. ridiculous how much inventory was out of stock. I settled on a Buxom lip gloss I loved.. sold out, none in back. I found a palette I really liked, sold out. Then saw another lip gloss, sold out. This is just a crappy location! The sales associates are nice but that doesn't help much when what you're looking for is out of stock. I'm a make-up Artist! VERY "disappointed" with this location. It is always a mess! Very short staffed, "especially" ringing on cash registers. The last, several times, I've waited, 15 minutes or longer to check out. Last Wednesday, I had to get a gift card, & waited, 30 minutes with other unhappy customers! The products are always out of stock. Products are not in correct order. Once, I brought a $50 face cream & when I got home, there was a huge fingerprint in the container. I called rt away & they "accidentally" hung up on me. I called back to speak with a manager& was on hold for over 13 minutes. She didn't apologize or say much. I never had a problem with the store until maybe 2 years ago when i started to notice some employees were rude for no reason especially when you have a return or exchange they act like your are stealing or something. There is a male worker I believe his name is Andrew and he is very unpleasant and snobby at least to me when I unfortunately have to get checked out by him. It is almost like he picks and chooses who he will be nice to and who he will give an attitude to. Ok, if you know what you want...walk in, grab it, walk up to the counter and LEAVE! You want as little employee interaction as possible. If you are looking for a new mascara brand to try or hair conditioner and want help-LEAVE! Also, STAY AWAY from the SALON. The salon counter area is not staffed so maybe you wil get a "may I help you?" after standing there for several minutes. That is why they have the $50 cut and color. My friend should have asked me about Ulta first but she made the ghastly mistake of setting up a salon appointment for the cut and color. She arrived 10 minutes early and was told her stylist was running a few minutes behind and to have a seat. Then, she was offered coffee or water. She said coffee. 5 minutes later the girl said sorry, we have no coffee but I'm making you some now. Weird, there was 1 stylist with a client and that was it. Where was the other busy stylist? My friend knows everyone including the client having services done. She, as she was sitting in the back of the store in the salon area, had 3 different friends walk up to her. She would never take the time to put this on Yelp but believe you me, she knows so many people that they will know of this incident. Anyway, she waited and waited as employees walked back to the area where the salon is to check their make up or hair and no one ever introduced them as her stylist etc. finally an hour after her appointment time she got up and left. Stay far away from the Highland, IN store if you need your makeup done and want it to actually match your skin tone. I took my daughter to our local Ulta on 1/12/18 for makeup for her first formal dance and she walked out of there looking like a mess. The shade was all wrong, it was not blended at all, and the "natural look with red lips" was not what she ended up with. When I questioned the color during application, I was told by Kenyetta that the green primer that she used would even it all out. She was mortified and on the brink of tears so we just paid and left. We had to take it all off and do it ourselves when we got home. NEVER AGAIN and I will tell everyone to steer clear! read more

I purchased over $800.00 in skin care products and wanted to return a one brand that I thought I would like but found that Philosophy, Lancôme and Clinique did not cause me any breakouts and the cashier who was a man kept inquiring why I wanted to return the item. Simply if a customer has change their mind for reasons already stated the cashier should quit making them feel as if they are wrong for returning the item. I was not surprised when I saw the lack of stars for this store. I went into the store looking for a specific brand but they did not carry it. When I walked up to a group of salespeople that were standing and talking they acted as if I had disturbed them. I was actually asking for help for a young lady who asked for help from me because there was not a salesperson around to help her. She said she couldn't tell who were the salespeople because they didn't wear uniforms. Then I asked for help for myself and I received a curt "I can help you" from the other salesperson. After explaining what I was looking for she took me over to the Lancôme area then had another salesperson help me. This person was nice enough but another customer came to her and she began helping her, when there were clearly other people able to help. After finding the correct foundation for me the clerk realized she did not have the color in stock. She said she would call another store. I waited for at least 10 minutes for her to come back. She never did so I walked out without anything. I am now going to Sephora. Hopefully I will get what I am looking for. read more

Went to the store with my mother today, she had returned a few items that she had purchased online and didn't visit care for. I had a bag of CDs (which was tied shut) from a nearby store on the strip and had it with me while I was shopping. Every employee on the sales floor was following us around and repeatedly asking if we needed help and kept a close eye on us although we were not doing anything wrong. After looking around, we decided not to buy anything in-store because we would just order online since the online store has a much wider selection. On our way out a girl who'd been following us around made the door alarm go off after we had already exited the store, knowing neither of us had anything which would have made the alarm go off we went back inside and the girl said (with a very shitty tone) 'let me check your bag' so I dropped it to the ground and said 'it's lieerally all CDs I'll untie it if you need to go through it' and she just looked at me and let us go but the second time we walked out the alarm didn't go off. They embarrassed my mother in front of the entire store and treated us like we were doing something illegal even though we hadn't done anything besides browse the store. The employees could have asked me to keep my bag at the register or something more professional than following us around and treating us like criminals. I called the store manager on my way home to let her know of the situation and how poorly we were treated, (she had a rude attitude to me as well) and she said she'd call us back to resolve it and we never heard back. The line is always long, the cashiers are always confused when you want to use a coupon or points, and they run out of bonus products very quickly. I started using the salon because the appointment process is online and very convenient. I love my stylist (Lori) who does a great job. But if you book an early appointment, the store is not open and you have to bang on the door. This morning I banged for 10 minutes, and no one could hear me. Finally Lori figured out that I was now late, and remembered to come open the door for me. So, if your schedule is more flexible than mine is, and you don't mind that the salon is expensive and the service pricing is a little whimsical, then this is the place for you.
