Came across this place in raglan, and I would agree it's a must do. It's full of character, in a hippie, Japanese meets turntable kind of way. The seating is intimate, ranging from bench seating tables along the wall to cozy bar stools where you can watch them cook to outdoor tables (including a folding card table for 1 or maybe 2).
The menu features a few sashimi options, spicy fried chicken which is a must, and a noodle salad with duck that is a flavor explosion and just my favorite combination of warm and fresh.
Cocktails were also awesome - highly recommend flower power for the passionfruit and gin combo which is a good complement to the spicy kick.
The service was all good, and clearly a close knit team that was working particularly hard through the summer holidays.
At the height of the season, reservations are essential. We couldn't get in the first night, but remained persistent to get reservations for the next night and so glad we did.
Wish I had more photos to share but was too good to wait (plus was enjoying a rare date night slightly away from the kids). read more
