Windermere Lake Cruises offers a variety of options for getting around, from the very scenic "Red Cruise" which takes folks from Bowness pier to Ambleside and back (can get off to explore that area and catch a later boat back), to "Yellow Cruise" which goes the other direction towards Lakeside where you can catch the old steam historic train. You can also rent small boats to drive yourself around, and some other options. It's just wonderful to see Windermere lake from directly on the water! Beautiful cruise across the lake with some commentary providing information about various things along the ride. Make sure to check time tables and plan your outing. Last rides around the lake are not that late into the evening so you will want to make sure you make it back to where you want to be before the cruises stop running!

Victor met us and explained the operation of the electric boat. We were all given life jackets which had been fully disinfected (covid virus). We hired the boat for one hour and as there was little breeze we sailed down the middle of the lake for approximately 25 minutes before turning around for our return. The outstanding scenery, with mountains all around and clear water made for an exciting experience. Remember to take your phone/camera. Upon our return we enjoyed an ice-cream at the Bluebird café, mmmm very nice.

The Gondola is so very plush inside and you really feel important when riding out on the lake in this wonderful machine. You are very low in the water and so see the lake from a different perspective which is a fun thing to do. The Gondola itself is quite a sight and it has been restored really carefully. The snake on the front is worth closer examination and a photo. It is the best way to travel along Coniston Water so if it is available use this rather than the other boats you won't regret it.

One of those creature comforts is film, and I appreciated the occasional showings at the Memorial Hall. They have had several bands coming through that have filled the 150-or-so seats. It's a popular spot to rent out for parties, and the available facilities (the kitchen, the tables, the dancing-friendly wood floors) make it a near-perfect choice. Their long tables are great for their occasional rummage/charity sales. And yes, there's even a weekly Zumba class on Thursday. It's a perfect local spot for a perfect little town!

Were were traveling over a 3-week period, so ours was heavy and bulky, making it difficult to get our things to our rooms. And there was no one to help with this. I would stay here again, but definitely request a room on the first floor.

They work it to uncommon levels not found in most others and that sets them apart uniquely. It is like how specialized in certain areas of hospitality the game reserve/wildlife park resorts/inns/bed and breakfast places are. There are also a variety of treetop hotels around the world that have their own charm as do the beach resorts/bungalows and such at various locations. The one thing that these two Glenburn hotels don't share in common is the English countryside on the one hand and the Himalayan Mountain Range (Mt.Everest) piercing the skies on the other. Fog is common at both, which I always like for one reason or another. Both must visit/experience special destinations, without question. One of my fave Uncles, a really jovial and witty guy was director of the Darjeeling Zoological/wildlife Park, back in the day. He was,among other things known for a project he developed and saw to fruition. Saving the rare Blood Pheasant. He decided Glenburn was ideal for them to propagate, and so it was as well, as it turned out happily. So there is another tidbit to have for over the 'Cuppa' or 'Hocuppa' tea as they call it in some parts of England. Conversation/Chit-Chat and so on, you know. Yes indeed,all that great stuff that's more and more hard to come by these days and when it does, it's all the more special and is stuff that dreams are made of.
