My senior dog was having labored breathing and I was not sure what to do but suspected euthanasia. Without charging me any fee the tech explained my options after bringing my pet to an oxygenated cage to help my dog breathe better. I knew I needed to euthanize. They have soothing music, a very gentle touch and very respectful of my pet and myself. They even have a grieving room where I could be with my pet before they prepared her so I could take her home. This office is completely lacking compassion. Our dog had a cough, lethargy, and had stopped eating. Our regular vet had been treating her, but we wanted to get a second opinion. Since our girl had gone rapidly downhill that day, we chose this after hours practice. They definitely need more practice. Because our girl had a cough, we had to go around back to their isolation room. We weren't allowed in with her, but were parked in a spot that allowed us to see in the room. Our baby tried to get out of their cage and go to the door and she was roughly put back in the cage. My heart was breaking for her and I just wanted to get her home. The vet called and said they could keep her overnight and administer IV fluids or could do euthanasia, but euthanasia would be a "middle of the road" option. WTH? We said we just wanted to take her home and they took their sweet time with the discharge. All the while, we could watch her from afar alone in a cage. It was a nightmare. When we finally got her back in the car, our battery was dead. My husband knocked on the side door to see if anyone had jumper cables and was abruptly told no. The door was abruptly shut in his face with no offer to help or to call someone for us. I feel like people who work with animals should be caring and kind. These people are neither. read more

We had an emergency at the rest stop about 18 minutes away in Ocala at the rest area. Thank god this was the closest place to us. We will never forget them. Somehow our snack bag fell over. I am very grateful for this emergency animal hospital. I have lived in the area for over 8 years and been to this hospital numerous times. It' isn't always the outcome I wanted but the staff was always very supportive and professional and caring. The most recent visit was when my Jack Russell ate a chocolate Easter bunny. They took her back right away and assessed her. They let me know what was the best course of treatment for her. A few hours later I was able to take my beloved pet home. I am very grateful for this hospital. Quality and compassionate care. Sometimes it takes a long time to be seen but you have to understand that they have to take care of the most serious cases first. This dog was shot by a stranger in its yard with a crossbow not once but twice once through the neck and once splitting it from its neck to its tail literally wide open. The dog managed to make it to its owner's front door 200 ft away still alive and was brought to this veterinary clinic where they refused to do anything to help this dog until they have the money in hand. They kept harassing the owners for the payment while they were trying their best to come up with the money. Finally the owners decided rather than the dog suffering any longer it would be best to put her down and it broke their heart because she would have survived had they been able to get her treated. This is beyond deplorable on the part of University of Florida veterinary clinic to allow this situation to happen. This was a crime committed upon this dog in this family and for you to further the trauma of this situation to this family by not treating this dog when you could have saved its life is deplorable at best and you should be ashamed for doing so. I understand that you're a business if you want to call it that but your lack of empathy and compassion is absolutely disgusting to me. This is not the first issue and it probably unfortunately won't be the last with you people but you need to do better and this is unacceptable to allow a victim of a crime to suffer even further for a monetary reason when it was no fault of their own. On top of that the dog is an innocent victim that you allowed to continue to suffer for money and that is unacceptable and I don't know how you can consider yourself a veterinarian and care about animals when you could allow that to happen. If I could leave zero stars I would. Unfortunately this past Sunday our sweet girl got herself into some trouble resulting in a gnarly laceration with major pocketing behind the wound. Reluctantly, we rushed her to the Uf Pet Emergency clinic in Ocala. To say we are upset with the level of care we received is an understatement. They completely botched closing the laceration, resulting in the tissue turning nacrotic. As well as knowingly sent us home with an incorrectly placed and broken drain saying "we tried to trouble shoot it but didn't have time to figure it out, I'm sure she'll be fine." UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services do better! We entrusted you in a time of need and you completely let our sweet girl suffer more than she needed to as she now needs an additional surgery to repair your negligence. I am grateful I found this place and that they were open for my cat and I. My veterinarian was very smart and competent. She provided all the options, and my baby of 14 years... I didn't want him to be in pain or suffer. His quality of life was at that turning point, the hardest place to witness so I made the difficult decision to have him euthanized right there. The care is normally very good, as I have had a dog in there multiple times- blood transfusion reactions, a dog with a bad surface abdominal cut and a dog refusing to use a leg after hard play. Once, a seriously ill dog was on routine steroid meds. My dog was going to be there overnight for observation and asked me to bring her medication. I did- handed it to the person who was assigned to my dog. When I picked up my dog the dog never got the medication. Tech just said "I forgot". Steroid was 11 hours late. This obviously was an important med. As I say, the care is good, but the cost is terribly expensive compared to other vets I have used read more

Throughout the night they did what they could for my boy and were constantly in contact via phone, but due to the severity of his condition I had to make the hardest decision and let him be free... he's in a better place and knows he had the best chance of surviving within the hospital. I Had an Emergency rattlesnake bite and called ahead to warn them of possible poisoning and to have a Gurney ready. Gave all the symptoms to receptionist and gave an ETA. Got there..no gurney outside to load him on. No tech in site and when they finally showed up after yelling we need a gurney for my 80lb Lab he was dead. I am not saying he would have survived all this but 5 minutes has save someone before. Please train your front desk properly for emergencies. That is what you do. Its not her fault you could have trained her to use GPS and relay info properly and even had the gurney ready. I do rescue work for large dogs but this was my personal 4 yrs old. We realky need an Emergency Vet in Inverness or Beverly hills. We had everything going against us. I had my 15 years old pekinese to see vet at ER while we were visiting their eye specialist. Because my husband did not want to wait for internal med vet in 2 weeks. My dog ate every little for a few days before the visit. She had a handful of broiled pork loin the night before. She had kidney value 4 and 25% kidney function. Vet said she had kidney value of 5 and they wanted to keep her to bring value down. It took year for my dog to get from value 4 to 5. We agreed to leave my dog there. It was a mistake to leave my dog all alone with this people. My dog had never felt uncomfortable, suffer or in pain at home. But they said she was in pain. No wonder why my dog looked terrible. They gave her pain med. She might feel pain for all things they poked into her. They didn't try to feed her. I saw when she didn't eat form their hand, they stopped. But I would not. How about feeding tube! We spent almost $10K to save her. We didn't concern about money but her life. They said her creatine didn't come down but went up. If I did not my dog to them and care for her and change the feeding, she would be most likely alive. I let vet talk me into putting her down. Even though I said I wanted to take her home. I heard she said that was not going to happened. Really, if anybody to take their dog home, nobody should stop them. I took her out in yard and put her down. She turned and looked at me and took steps. I was in shock to be thinking right. Vet used words to scared us that my dog would be suffer and pain. Vet said she had 25% of kidney function. (That was she had originally.) It sounded like she could not live with25%. They could still live for year with that. My dog had up and down like this. And she was back eating on and off. Vet pressured me to end my dog life, instead of accommodate me to take her home as my wish. I felt my dog become a learning subject for this vets. I paid so much for them to learn to be a vet. I don't even know they cared or it is just another animal. We will never take my other dogs there again. read more

My sweet French bulldog had bone cancer at age 5. I knew he would eventually start to decline and would have to go to my vet to put him down. Unfortunately on a Sunday his pain wasn't being controlled by his meds and he could not lay down comfortably so I ended at UF ER in Ocala and was so worried as I had planned at being at his vet. But it couldn't have gone any better. They were the most considerate people from the front desk to the nurses in the back. They did not make me wait in waiting room and took me to private room and gave me the time I needed to say goodbye. Thank you to every staff member working 12/10/22 for your kindness. Have been here before with another dog and they were great both times before but their kindness and professionalism for euthanasia meant a lot to this person saying goodbye to her best friend. Terrible Service. Staff is rude. The building/office is gross. I waited at the front desk for 15 minutes and no one came out. I decided to call their number and tell them I was there. We had to take our sweet boy Russell in a 15 Jack Russell mix. He had his first ever seizure. When we got there they immediately took him in. Unfortunately we had to euthanize him. The entire staff was great very compassionate . They cleaned him up put him in a coffin. This was on Sunday on Wednesday we received in the mail a sympathy card signed by all staff and a ceramic imprint of Russell's paw. This touched us to our very core. UF Animal ER for animals - Ocala, Florida... Usually this place is ok, way to expensive for a teaching clinic for animals... This time I took my cat in because his urethra was clogged, they performed surgery and cleared him so he could pee again. It was a bitter cold weekend in North Florida when he was their, reaching lows in the 20's. I called them to make sure he would be warm enough, they assured me they had heating. So I'm not sure where he got it, but he had a severe cold and couldn't breath from his nose. When we brought him home we had to take him to the local vet for another shot of antibiotics. Then my others 2 cats had the same problem. UF health ER for Animals either did not keep my cat warm, or they had him by another animal that was very sick. It has been 2 weeks, and I'm still taking my 2 other cats for anti biotics to the vets. UF health is responsible for this, if they put my pet by another infected animal or did not keep him warm in this frigid artic cold blast to north Florida it is on them. At home my cats are always at a temperature of 75 degrees, and they do not go outside, they are indoor cats. Either way they did wrong by me and my pet. My cat had no cold or anything when he went in for treatment. And when I called them, they could have cared less about my pet... It seems UF Health only cares about people or animals when they can make a lot of money on them. I'm also a kidney transplant patient who was seeing UF Health for my Transplant doctors once a year for check ups. UF health also dropped all patients 3 years of more with a kidney transplant. They only want to see them when they can make a lot of money. They have NO concern for patients for follow up and annual visits... For UF Health and Animal Clinic it's all about money, if they can not make lot's of money from you or your insurance they no longer have use for you... Very sad for humans and animals... read more

ive never in my life encountered people so careless its supposed to be an emergency vet hospital but when i took my 3-day old pup at 2am (05/14/2022) to them for a serious injury they turned me away my pups arm was literally stripped you could see nothing but muscle and blood!!! i explained to them i had the $125 but because was not sure how much treatment would cost i did not have any money i even asked them was there a way i can pay the $125 and they keep her and treat her until i came back to pay which would have been on tuesday(05/17). they then told me that that will only cover the "exam" of my pup and the doctor would only tell me what they would "recommend" and if i could not afford treatment the could euthanize her and put her in a casket so that i could bury her !!!! they would not even try to give her a fighting chance because i didn't have all of the money upfront what has this world come to i was completely shocked and distraught and overwhelmed with sadness and tears as i held my 3-day old pup in my arms and she's screaming out in pain they are horrible horrible people and that's final ! I want to take my valuable time to THANK the veterinarian as well as the lovely Med and Admin professionals at UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services. What a beautiful experience?! I had an emergency. The kitty was not doing well. I assumed that I fed to it a chicken bone. I read the negative reviews online and was not thrilled to visit the place, but I had no choice. I arrived and started to look for the evidence of those reviews and I arrived less than friendly. As walked in, the front office lady smiled and immediately attended to me. I could not see her mouth (since the mask was on), but I could see the pleasant expression of the eyes. It was warm. The place was sterile clean and it smelled good. I explained to the veterinarian that I might have fed my pet a chicken bone and told them to teat one for that. To my pleasant surprise, there was no bone. The diagnosis came almost immediately. The package of med was given. The veterinarian, whom I only converse over the phone from my car (due to Covid-19) was very professional, very knowledgeable, and caring. I felt that my pet was in very good hands. My cat is feral, but I was told that even he was friendly to the medical professionals. I have used this Emergency Hospital three times since its been here. They do a great job. It's not cheap but they are here after hours, all weekend and holidays. That means your pet has someone with them all night long. They've saved both of our animals. They even took our cat to the UF Small Animal Veterinarian Hospital on Monday when they closed so he could get his surgery by a UF Specialist. It wasn't as expensive as it could have been. My animals are family members therefor they're priceless! If you have an after hours emergency give them a call. They'll give you price estimates before they do anything. Awesome place! These people were very nice on the phone, but that was it. Because of a past Corona Case in our Family , UF Pet Emergency refused to treat him inside and let us be with him for his last Minutes, even that our whole Family has been tested negative and wore masks .
