I grew up in Bear Lake, Montpelier where I was born, and the building held all the hot springs!!!…read moreThey were never outside. What happened to the building with the Hot Springs? Did they not keep up so that it would stay nice all year like it used to? It did have a pool and then they had the hot Springs Divided by how hot they were and yes, it had a sulfur smell because they're hot spring real hot springs! I remember some being so hot they were too hot as a kiddo. Why is that unavailable in the winner now? I learned how to swim in that pool well partially and my Bear Lake. This was before it became the tourist trap. It's changed. I mean from when I was a girl to to now what a different world. I can't believe they're allowing some of it! Bear Lake was known for its beautiful blue pristine crystal clear water's the Caribbean of the Rocky Mountains, now it's green! When I was young, you couldn't drive down onto the beach, you couldn't because the water was too deep. Hence why the old pavilions are up so high. I could see from my neck down to my feet. It was so clear and clean. It does dip to an angle and that dip goes yearly, towards the east side. It is always deeper on the east shore. 2023 there were some bugs that I was annoyed by and had never seen before! They didn't clear when I got the sea-doo further out on the water. I thought they would, but too many flying black tiny flies and algae blooms! Never seen before! They said it would clear up. The Airbnb folk with their septic systems are supposed to legally have them done, but some of them were dumping them in the lake. Gross! Illegal as well! Growths is good but destroying it is not ok! I remember everything being so pristine and so clean and so beautiful! Including this hot Springs building that I haven't been into for a long time. The lake has a natural ecosystem that works great before people started messing with it. The hot springs were awesome. We went there in the winter, not the summer for the Hot Springs. Who wants to go in Hot Springs when it's hot? I know Bear Lake back then in the summer wasn't as hot as it is now because of climate change, but still they're nicer in the winter. The one that they're showing outside makes no sense doesn't even look hot. I remember the smell of sulfur, true Hot Springs smell like sulfur when they're enclosed or sometimes when they're even open. The building has no hours and is only showing summer stuff. How many snowmobilers go up there how many people go there in the winter quite a few I do it every year in the winter. I prefer the winter over the summer now.

We liked the resort overall. Just like any place it is not perfect but a solid 4 stars. The good: the rooms were clean and pretty spacious, very friendly staff, bathrooms are top notch, access to a large pool that was heated perfectly, access to tennis (we did not use), nice location, and solid walls so you could not hear the neighbors TV or screaming kids The bad: check in time is only at 4pm (unless arranged for another time). I did not read the check in instructions so this was my fault, luckily the manager called and asked if we were still coming and was really nice despite my mistake. They do not stock the bathrooms with shampoo so bring your own, they do provide soap. Since the resort is circular it can be a maze to get to your room (I'm nit-picking here). We only were given one key so we had to coordinate a lot to ensure no one was locked out. The price was about what to expect when visiting bear lake in the summer over a very busy weekend so it was high but expect to pay that. Sure you can spend less down the road but you will not have access to a big heated pool. The kids and I loved the pool a lot. This was a highlight to our trip.

We just finished a four-day family reunion where we rented the entire facility (now there is only one lodge--the lodge with the pool has different owners now and we didn't miss it.) The set up is fantastic so that families naturally and easily gather around the tether ball and volleyball courts. There is a large, well-maintained grassy yard in the middle of the RV and tent areas. The lodge has an excellent, large assembly room for gatherings. We used it almost every night. There is a well-stocked kitchen that we all shared. Denise (the owner and manager) couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating to our large group. When cousins kept adding at the last minute, she let us get creative with sleeping arrangements. There is a large loft that the younger cousins used every night. They loved sleeping in a big group. Denise helped us with all the logistics of floating down the Bear River. It was one of the many highlights of a great reunion. She is kind and attentive to her guests. We are all agreed that this is one of the absolute best places for families to gather without going broke.

I don't even know where to start. I don't have time to get into everything that went wrong with…read morethis place, but I'll relate some of the biggest issues. My elderly grandparents rented part of the RV and camping area for our annual family reunion. When we got there, the reservations were double booked. There was a lot of rearranging and juggling done to get spots for all 5 RV's and 4-5 tents. Next, the manager (a very nice and helpful lady) told us we were welcome to use the bathrooms in the lodge. I expected to only use the port-a-potties, but after checking them out and finding them to be absolutely disgusting, reeking, and filthy, I wanted to take my son in to use the lodge toilets. What a nightmare to have had my child use those horrible port-a-potties. Others in our group felt the same. After 2 days of several families in our group using the indoor bathrooms, the owner, Denise, singled ME out and yelled at me for using the lodge bathrooms. She was incredibly rude. I was very confused since we were told we COULD use them, and had been for 2 days! We always cleaned up after ourselves and brought in our own toilet paper. When we got there, the pool was completely drained and not cleaned, nor was anyone there to clean it. My lifeguard cousin actually ended up cleaning and filling the pool himself because nobody ever came to do it...That's right, we had to clean and fill the swimming pool ourselves. Denise, the owner, was extremely annoying. She was yelling at all the younger people for things they didn't do (such as running through the lodge, leaving doors "wide open" and spilling food in the hot tub--this was done by another group, but not us). We were told that in order to use the hot tub again, we would have to clean it ourselves, even though we didn't make the mess. So we ended up not only cleaning the pool, but the hot tub as well. Denise also seemed to hover over our group. It was like she watched our every move. She came down to meet with my grandparents SEVERAL times EACH DAY, always unhappy with some little thing or other that we were doing. She seemed to make up rules on the spot. Eventually we began to feel that we couldn't do anything but sit by our RV's. It felt like we were trespassing in a crotchety old neighbor's backyard. We felt VERY unwelcome. I didn't spend much time in the lodges, but they seemed very outdated and run down. Decor looked like it was from the '90's and I saw TWO 2-car garages absolutely packed full of junk, like a Hoarders episode. If I were reading this review, I'd wonder if our group was a bunch of hooligans, trashing the place and being rude... But we are just regular, nice people. We have a reunion every year at other places and never experienced issues like this. The owner needs to learn how to run a real business. She needs lessons on how to treat her customers. Maybe if she had spent less time hovering and forcing her guests to clean the entire place, and more time tending to her own responsibilities, she'd be better off. It's too bad that someone with some sense and organization skills doesn't buy this place and bring it up to its potential. Never setting foot there again.
