I regret taking the Paralegal Program at UCLA Extension. Despite receiving complaints for years about Christopher Ellison, they continue to allow him to teach 3 separate classes, meaning if you take this program, you will need to be taught by him for 18 weeks. His sexism in the classroom was truly disgusting, and many students' complaints were ignored. He was always off topic and inappropriate. He referred to people as "crackheads" said "all teenage girls should apologize to their parents" (asserting that young women are "awful"), told the class about his own teenage daughter's insecurities and that she wanted a nose job, told us that he had removed his wife from his life insurance without telling her, and seemed unhinged at times. Extremely inappropriate and misogynistic personal details to be giving a class. I submitted a complaint to UCLA with timestamps of his inappropriate comments that UCLA has on film and I was ignored. I'm sure they will allow him to continue teaching. My mental health took a toll and I decided to just not attend his last class because we are allowed one dropped module. I am honestly thinking of speaking to representation because of how awful this experience was. After attending this course and seeing how they allow their professors to treat their female students, I am not surprised UCLA is embroiled in the Epstein files with another professor, and they have yet to suspend him. Yale just suspended their professor that was involved with Epstein, but UCLA has not. My law firm paid for my tuition or else I would have filed a chargeback. I have advised them to never use UCLA for their paralegals again. Not to mention, grades would come in months after the classes finished, with little to zero feedback. read more

The price of their writing courses are ridiculous and it is around $720 for either online or in person which doesn't make sense to me because I think online classes should be cheaper! I have emailed the staff and they referred me to info about scholarships, which is highly selective. The demographic of people who take their courses are not going to change until they lower their prices. The writing courses are only worth it if you are a fan of the instructor's work. read more

I recently contacted the Paralegal Training Program and was informed that the Winter 2025 11-month program is at capacity. Therefore, they recommend deferring my enrollment. I am disappointed by this news, especially given the delays I have experienced in receiving my financial aid package promptly. I've taken 6 courses in the Writers Program in feature film writing. I didn't enroll in the certificate program since I'm an intermediate-level writer. Some of the teachers have been excellent; others, not so much. I'd never heard of any of them, but I did check them out on IMDB before I enrolled in their classes. No, they're not A-listers, but as working writers, they did have knowledge to impart. I've read some reviewers complain about script notes by other students, but I've found that most of the time, they're either on-target or have directed me to a problem area that I needed to address. While I agree that the cost appears to be excessive, just look at NYU Extension. It's much more. Nevertheless, in many cases paying the $125 annual fee for WP NOW (the UCLA writers group) will provide you with a small class discount. It's worth the fee. read more

This program is great but they make you do so much work that there are strict teachers that go hard on you and you're not treated that perfectly but I like one of the janitors but all those they should be more flexible with students and they don't get told to be nicer and not so strict but over all my first year in pathway was great I made lots of friends other than that to improve this program to become better is if the directors of the program doesn't call you liars when you're telling the truth and they don't believe you but still being ignorant and when you say something that isn't bad the aide or teacher tells you not to say it definitely there should be better things like even when a student doesn't want to pay for someone's Uber ride then it should be optional and as a class in this program career development is the hardest class to take but the teacher is strict so if you're put in that class just be on top of your work so you don't get on the teacher is bad side where they are easily mad at you but anyways I'm not sure if I'd recommend this program and they charge too much money and you aren't given privacy if there's night staff or day staff you get rushed sometimes this is why I am better off staying home with my parents read more

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, teach at UCLA Extension. I can only speak to my online experience, but what a monumental waste of time and money. You buy some books from Amazon that a perfunctory search woulda turned up. You read. You post posts on a Canvas discussion board. You learn nothing useful. Wash, rinse, repeat for each expensive class. Indeed, I find the entire premise of these certificate programs flawed. You're allegedly learning from "leaders" in a given field, but you're left fumbling about with a bunch of nobodies in a glorified message board with no lectures, no interaction, no elucidation, no actual education from the supposed professionals. And if they're so good at what they do then why are they scraping up a few extra bucks teaching here, eh? Also, the customer service aspect of it is utter shit. Nobody knows the policies or what they're doing. I was told erroneous ways to do things -- waited hours for responses -- and condescended to. The good news is that I've yet to meet anyone impressed or even vaguely concerned about someone having a UCLA Extension Certificate in anything. If a verbal contract ain't worth the paper it's printed on, a certificate from these programs ain't worth the pixels. Waste of time. Waste of money. Waste of effort. read more

I made the mistake of choosing UCLA Extension's Screenwriting Certificate Program thinking that with the backing of you know...UCLA, that I would be receiving a quality educational experience. Not so much. The bottom line is that these classes (specifically the remote and online versions which make up 90% of their offerings) are significantly designed around peer feedback, and very little actual instructor led instruction and "teaching/feedback". With 12-14 individuals in a class, it's damn near impossible to get everyone the opportunity to discuss their work (in this case your story/screenplay) within a 3 hour weekly zoom class. I'm not interested in paying $700-$1000 for a class that ultimately just provides some accountability, assignment driven work, and the majority of class time having to listen to other students go through their work. Folks would be better off taking that money and hiring a coach/professional who offers 1:1 instruction or guidance for 30 min a week. While I only participated in one course and dropped out, things were pretty disorganized, poor time management, delayed responses from the instructor...it's just not a quality experience and I feel people would be better served looking elsewhere for more individual one on one experiences for the same investment. read more

Waste of money. Instructor not available and had to fight for my refund tooth and nail. Next instructor mediocre. Could not log in to zoom at times and canvas issues galore. Canvas gave me no resolution to my issue and told me to address it to UCLA where my email was undeliverable and phone call was not returned because they were away from their desk with a voicemail box full. Two instructors posted OLD assignments, and even assigned assignments that weren't even available to access. Don't waste your time. You can't get a refund even until it's too late . read more

No reason whatsoever to enroll in this school if you are an international student. UCLA Extension recently began to impose very high tuition fees on international students. With these inflated costs, students are better off attending a community college or university, whose diplomas have a lot more weight than a certificate. The school has been in business for decades and these fees did not exist before. Think about cost x benefit. The classes are a mixed bag. Some instructors are very dedicated and others are simply not as qualified or attuned to what is happening in the field they are teaching, so look for recommendations before enrolling. read more

Just don't do it. It's a waste of $700+. Took a remote class thru the entertainment studies sector and came to realize that would mean absolutely zero instruction from a teacher who does the absolute bare minimum. (Which is really pretty much, nothing). Doesn't even check your assignments because she "doesn't have time". So you have no idea if you're doing work accurately or not. I don't know if I'd even trust the "teacher" to check. Their credits are none I recognize and it doesn't seem like she's even an appropriate person to teach, considering her lack of experience. These remote classes are a cash cow for places like this to take in students' hard-earned money without having to do anything once the "curriculum" is posted onto the student portal. Beware! The computer programming course will leave you frustrated and regretting you signed up. They always say you're a great candidate, but sadly if you don't already have a solid background in coding or programming you're being suckered. At no point was I able to do any assignment with confidence and did not feel I was learning any skills that would enable me to get a job. But the gladly accepted my money and then refused to refund me any portion of it when I decided I was so far behind that I was wasting my time. So, save your money and do free courses online. read more

Started several types of classes. Great teachers on some. Below are the recommended courses- Photo 1,2 with Ken online Portraiture with Hugh- he's really funny Lighting 1,2 and DSLR 1,2 with Van- good teacher very thorough and kind with detailed attention, brings guest speakers and studio shoots on Sunday's Photoshop for photographers -Inga online is great Final Cut Pro 1, 2 classes - easy and good instructors Psychology of Happiness (Online) amazing teacher - Emily Van Sonneberg Any of the writing classes are above par in comparison to other institutions Linguistic class is not easy, takes some reading to understand it Finance class is hit and miss, there is a great online budgeting class but you learn more from the text and material rather than from the teacher The online platform is easy to navigate and submit homework So I graduated from their photography certification... it's really great that I have gotten this level of education. My classmates and I received backlash in an email from one of our instructors because a student gave an honest review of her abrasive teaching style. I never said anything about the slides not fitting in the margins because I didn't want to cause a fuss. Some instructors were calmer than others while familiarizing themselves with ZOOM. I just tried to make lemonade out of the few lemons. I enrolled in the program to earn a specialization to add to my professional credentials. I would take courses from UCLA Extension again. read more

I thought this would be a wonderful school for my special needs daughter. I did write a review before but they managed to take it down. I cannot say enough how disappointed I was in the way this ( very expensive) school is run. It all looks good from the outside and has the potential to be excellent. Unfortunately, because it is run by the very lame Eric Latham, it is a sad state of affairs. Any time I would go to him with an issue, he said that it was not his department and pass it on to someone else. And that someone else was usually a similar loser who never followed through. Here's just ONE example. My daughter was put in a room with a dangerous bully, who ended up being taken out by the police. Whenever I explained what was happening in the room his answer would only be, "these things always have two sides". She was so emotionally scarred by the experience, it took her years to recover. She WAS NOT SAFE THERE!! Also, the helpers ( a company called "Creative Services ") were low quality caregivers. One threatened my daughter that she'd be sent to a mental institution where they would tie her down to take her medication, along with other threats. Did Mr. Latham do anything about this? No, it wasn't his department. I could go on, and maybe will later, but let's see if they try to take down this honest review for a second time. Beware. read more

This is for the clear credential in secondary schools. I recommend not to use their program as they take their clear credential program so seriously, that they treat you like you're an undergrad and grade very seriously. I been teaching for 7 years and had to take this program when I moved to this state as the state of California mandates it, and they act like its the biggest thing. There are other institutions that are easier with less work. read more
