This art gallery is part of the City of Casselberry's commitment to attract and support the arts…read more You can visit this gallery, the Art House, The Sculpture House, and the Sculpture Gardens all for free in Lake Concord Park. The Casselberry Arts Center opened in January of 2024. It is a 3,000 foot open space gallery that is used to stage exhibits of visual and digital arts, dance, music, theater, film, design, and multi-media. The beautiful space has floor to ceiling windows that let in natural light as well as a view of the gardens outside. The current exhibit is a presentation from the University of Central Florida, from the students in the UCF SVAD MFA program. The exhibit invited students "to think beyond their studio practice and outside their preconceived notions of an art exhibition in order to gain a new understanding of the limitations and successes of the exhibition form." I really enjoyed the creativity of the art works, especially the fawn and the painting of a bed with the sheet that comes out and on to the floor. Bravo to Casselberry for their support of the arts students of UCF. This exhibit will be on view until June 27th.

One hundred years…read more The Seminole County Centennial Festival is a celebration of the century that Seminole Country has been in existence. The emphasis is on agriculture, education, history, transportation and quality of life. Lot of arts and crafts, historic displays, dancing, music, plants and of course food. The police were there showing off their cool toys like a helicopter and armored car and had some guys walking around with full body armor. Cool stuff to look at up close. All the towns of the country were represented and many had very cool displays from their historical societies. Fascinating people to talk to, they know a whole lot about the history of their towns. A huge kids area was being well used by the little ones and quite a few food trucks were around so people could stuff their faces while looking at the cool stuff. Much of the fair seemed to center around agriculture and lots of plants and farming stuff was for sale. A great place to learn about the weird looking and exotic plants in the region. The fair wasn't as large as I though it would be, certainly much smaller than the huge fairs of this type in the north east. It was interesting and educational and considering it was free, a great way to spend the afternoon.

One of the parks that benefitted from improvements is located behind Casselberry City Hall. A highlight of the 5 acre, Lake Concord Park is a free sculpture walk which you can visit for free along with the Sculpture House, Art House, and Arts Center. Lining the paths of Lake Concord Park are over 40 public art sculptures including 11 permanent pieces. Featured artists include Keith Carroll, Mindy Colton, Marcos Cruz, Johann Eyefells, Dorothy Gillespie, Frank Grady, Noelio Gonzalez Jacob Harmeling, Steve Pi, Bill Platt, Aurora Rincon, Chris Scala, and Barbara Sorensen. With so many sculptures, there is something for everyone's taste. Some of my favorites included the graceful "Wendi" by Steve Piscitell and "Aurora" by Noelio Gonzalez. The beautiful flowers and plants of the Lake Concord Garden make the perfect backdrop for the art pieces. Strolling the Lake Concord Sculpture Walk was very enjoyable and I loved seeing how much Casselberry does to support the arts.

Local acts performed from puppet show, to gay chorus, to belly dancers and a children's science act. The kids area workers were amazing but the entertainment was a minimal for kids. Sewing a keychain with the letter of your name, paint a picture, and then a bead design that could be put together and then dumped back in the bucket. Luckily their was a face painter at one of the art booths. Food trucks had a great variety but stuck with the Amish pretzel shop truck. Would like to see more kids items like bounce house however event was free unless you had VIP. Always great to experience new things.
