There's both pretty cool modern mart pieces as well as lots of ancient Latin American art and sculptures. I loved learning about the history of the Aztec, Mayans, and Incans through the preserved art pieces. I do wish there was an expanded area for Asian and African art, but I guess that leaves room for them to continue to grow and improve. Definitely check them out during Museums on Us through Bank of America! You can experience great art for free :)

Lorn and I had been to this venue for the Yelpie awards and decided to return as we were impressed with the artwork the first time we came. Third Thursdays is a free event each month and it displays the works of various artists. Also, if you park at the Plaza parking lot on Court Avenue just a few blocks away, your parking ticket is validated, and you only pay $4. We got there around 6:30pm and the place was already packed. We got a drink at the cafe and a shout out to Miles for being a fun server and a good conversationist. We then proceeded to see all the art displays from photography to paintings to ink drawings. The main floor is much roomier as the second floor was quite crowded and tight given the separate rooms for the displays. But we still enjoyed ourselves and got to see the work of Lorn's friend, Grace Garvey, as well as other artists. The second floor's main room was dedicated to "Black & White" artist renderings and many of the displays were quite intriguing. The main floor had some excellent concert photographs that exuded the energy and passion of the performers as well as the crowds. This is definitely a fun free event to attend in downtown Orlando.

We were then able to go on our own and visit the displays. Pictures were allowed, which was wonderful because I didn't want to forget some of them and they were great inspiration. They had a great selection of art, including art by teens and it is FREE so what a great value. We've decided we'd like to go every so often to keep up with the displays.

I really like seascapes and there were quite a few. But no room in the suitcase this trip. One thing that really intrigued me was a model of the RMS Titanic. It took the artist 3 yrs to build. Walked around in here for a bit checking out the range of skills and visions of the various artists they have on display. It somewhat reminded me of being in Barcelona on an afternoon when various artists would set up on the square. My favorite artists on display here are: Tom Abbott - 3-dimensional Mixed Media - bright and vibrant colors that literally jump off the canvas; you will be tempted to touch each piece. He displays various textures throughout his pieces. There are ripped and frayed-edge canvas to smooth poured paint. They don't have a story behind them, he simply does it some everyone can have fun with his art. Jerry D. Martin - photographer - After seeing a sunset photo, I looked it up online and discovered that when moving to FL, a sunset experience really turned him onto landscape and he has a very similar sunset connection that I do: "A sunset is a celebration of the end of a long day. It is the final light of the evening that sends us a variety of color which allows us to witness God's ability to paint the perfect picture." - YAS! Fridays they have Art Class & a Wine Glass: http://www.artclassandawineglass.com - for anyone, not just "artists" - this is a fun way to get your paint on and hang out with friends or meet new people. The Casselberry Arts Center opened in January of 2024. It is a 3,000 foot open space gallery that is used to stage exhibits of visual and digital arts, dance, music, theater, film, design, and multi-media. The beautiful space has floor to ceiling windows that let in natural light as well as a view of the gardens outside. The current exhibit is a presentation from the University of Central Florida, from the students in the UCF SVAD MFA program. The exhibit invited students "to think beyond their studio practice and outside their preconceived notions of an art exhibition in order to gain a new understanding of the limitations and successes of the exhibition form." I really enjoyed the creativity of the art works, especially the fawn and the painting of a bed with the sheet that comes out and on to the floor. Bravo to Casselberry for their support of the arts students of UCF. This exhibit will be on view until June 27th.
