Honestly this was the most stressful year of my life. My son only attended for one semester. My son…read morehas a learning disability. The school psychologist and the DOE reps assured me he would continue getting his services at this school and then some to make sure he has support. I was infuriated when into Christmas break i was told me son never got his treatment. I had his IEP meeting at the school before i even enrolled him (May 2019). Even after asking his teacher Ms. Fuller about his therapy schedule vs. regular class schedule back in Sep. 2019, she assured me he was getting his treatment. All lies. Then his class teacher Ms. Phillips didn't give me the warm and fuzzy feeling. I asked her on day one what will the day look like? I wanted to be able to ask my son after school to further help him in his communication skills. All she could say was she doesn't know; she wants to hide in the bathroom all day since there is no plan. I was floored, first child - first school day and all summer long no planning?? I didn't even get a supply list till a month in. Last thing to turn me off from the school was the principle. Ms. Soussoudis does not want to better the school. That's the vibe she gave me. I signed up as part of the PTA. Not only was this organization in the school taken as a joke there was no system in place for anything. But that didn't discourage me. After months of having a PTA again the other moms and i had a plethora of ideas. When we finally got a chance to sit down and discuss it, the principle said to our faces "i Love the idea. I'm sure both the school and facility would love it as well. However, i have a lot on my plate. So what ever it is you have planned. If it works do it but i want no part of it". The other moms and i looked at each other and once we got back to our office. And sadly that was the last day for us. We have jobs, families and other responsibilities that trump any PTA duty. Yet we wanted to do it and make things fun for the kids. I wanted to be the involved mom so my son can succeed. But if the principle doesn't care why should we? That day i decided i will no longer give the school a chance. Also having a gym with no working water fountains, class ratios of 44-58 students to 1 teacher is a major liability. The gym teacher herself told me this and showed me the classes. Not to mention isnt Lorraine Hansberry a well known writer? And the school doesn't do anything/much for black history month. This was disappointing. Also someone needs to help Ms. Bolla with some courtesy training. Her way of speaking is demeaning and she's not fully capable of listening for some reason. I don't know if she's set in her ways at her age but it's not appropriate. Sadly i wouldn't recommend this school to an enemy. Each child's future should be taken more seriously than how this school handles things.

They engage the children and my son just glows at the sight of them! I was so sad to see Ms. Leah leave- she was an incredible talent who was able to make each and every baby smile- but the other instructors are wonderful and the classes are interesting and fun. My son (16 months) is in Music II, which encourages toddlers to play with real instruments, and provides them exposure to written music, as well as experimentation with different rhythms and volumes. It is delightful, and there is obvious care into what is being taught (there is a method behind the lessons). I also love that there is a theme each week (ex: African music, Elvis Presley, Queen, Samba, Broadway Tunes, etc) as this gets me shaking my bum as well! The one drawback is the scarcity of open gym time. It would be fine if the gym were only open to members, but since it is open to the public (a person can pay a one-time fee to attend the open gym) it gets PACKED- even on weekdays! I mean, toddlers running into each other, parents tripping over each other packed. And....because there are some people who come here and there and have no real loyalty to the business, they can be quite rude and obnoxious during open gym. For instance, one mother sat on the floor with her legs spread out, texting, not watching her child, consequently making children and parents have to climb over her to get to the play station she was blocking. Ugh! This type of thing is not uncommon, but only during open gym (baby gym is much more peaceful). I would definitely suggest that there be 1 or 2 open gym sessions per week that are JUST for gymboree members, so that we can get our $102/month's worth. Other than that, this place is awesome, and provides great educational entertainment to my little guy.

My youngest still attended and I leave her every day knowing she is in very good care. Everyone is friendly and you feel they put the kids first. There is not much turnaround, the teachers have been there and care about the school.

His 24hr class (crammed into two days) was intense, but he made sure to make it fun and enjoyable. When you call to reserve a seat, make sure to ask if there is an opening in Kam's class. He's taking the New York Bar exam soon, and I know he's gonna make a great lawyer. Sign-up and take his course before we lose him to the courthouse :-)

PYD does a pretty good job in offering what they do for an NPO…read more They did a super job in taking care of me while i was in NY for a couple of months. I'm an art major in college, so 'business' was a totally new concept, and PYD successfully taught me the fundamental principles very quickly. The PROS: They do teach you and give you amazing business opportunities that probably a normal company wouldn't. But what you gain also depends on how hard you work, or what you can make out of the experience. I have to mention that Mr.Leo is a super motivational speaker, and if you are also at loss in direction in NY, his speech will change you! I also find this program very useful if you come from a foreign country, or other states beside NY, simply if you are new to the whole "NY business mind". NY definitely has a unique dynamic like no other, and even just in the way you socialize with people seem different. In that sense, PYD has taught me very valuable and interesting ways to look at things in terms of business. You can also meet other ambitious people here, and the friendships I made here personally were very valuable. I think this comes from the fact that they are a very small school, and everyone quickly starts feeling as if they were all part of a family. I found out later that some people that attend PYD regularly, are in very high positions of big cooperates that I would never even find the chance to talk to in normal life. Yes, for some reason PYD does attract these people to come even while they have amazing careers. Never under-estimate who might be sitting in with you at a meeting while your interning for them! The CONS: Because the school is so small, the dynamics of this school really depends on the people that attend PYD at the time. It does tend to get frustrating when people don't speak up, or meetings don't seem productive. This all depends on if the students/interns there are just there to fulfill their resume as "internship", or if they really want to learn. You also have to understand that this is a learning process for everyone, so at times it's struggling to cope with different levels of 'professionalism' s until they all get to the high standards. You can slack but they DO make you work HARD! So sometimes you will feel pressured and worn out, doubting if this is what you really want. No pain, no gain, right? Overall, I think PYD definitely teaches you a lot and makes you feel rewarded for what you do.
