Flash forward years later to Math Night at my kids' school. I took them despite dreading it. It was hosted by Mathnasium Monrovia and I quickly realized there was nothing to dread. The games and activities were educational as expected but also genuinely fun, which surprised me. On top of that, my son Elliott won a free month of classes. Sahar, Cindy and the rest of the staff have been great. They're friendly, professional and passionate about math in a way that feels contagious. I wish something like this was available when I was a kid.

The team here has recruited some great talent that have been so patient and kind to the kids. The owner also takes the time out to know every single student and when given time, learns how each kid learns and think. It's pretty amazing. She's super organized, knows the curriculum inside and out, and really understands what's going on at Highland Oaks. She even reviews our child's progress reports to make sure the tutoring is focused on exactly what's needed. As two busy parents with demanding jobs, it's hard to stay on top of homework and school support. Having Ms. Brenda involved has been a game-changer. She's not only a seasoned educator, but also a mom herself, which really shows in the way she connects with the kids and understands what they need both academically and emotionally. Our child loved going there--not just for the learning, but also for the environment. Ms. Brenda creates a space that's warm, structured, and respectful. They still came home with a bunch of complicated HW every evening. All they really did was play for a few hours. Since enrolling, not only are my kids coming with finished HW, they are also getting extra supplemental academic exercises in, Mandarin, English and Math. Our first tutor stepped in not only during COVID but during a time my daughter was recovering from a car accident and our family suffering from 5 losses due to Covid. Gilbert Neuner was our tutor. He did not have a clue of what was personally happening to us, but he took ownership of his tutoring role and ensured my daughter understood her assignments. He was thorough in his teachings and explanations. He was also willing to provide addl help when needed. Unfortunately, Gilbert does not have availability this term, so Abby had to quickly find another Discrete Structures tutor for us.
