My husband is in second phase of this 8 month program. It's initially a starting 2 month commitment however, the entirety of the program is 8 months. My husband is on month 6 of his 8 month commitment. I believe it's hard at first for people to get adjusted, but this place is God sent. I didn't have hope for my husband and when I dropped him off it was just a way of getting "rid of him". I had filed for Divorce and Restraining order and I couldn't do it anymore, I was fed up, our kids were fed up. I believed God could help us, but would he was the question. The answer is Yes. Yes, God has answered many prayers because of what the Lord is doing in my husband at UTurn for Christ. This place isn't easy, it's hard on men and woman because it's structured, it's God centered, they work hard physically (through this they are learning how to work, commitment, responsibility and discipline), they're in Bible studies daily, most times twice a day. This is a place to get right with God, yourself, and your family. At first it was extremely hard to believe my husband was changing and at times I felt like I was throwing away money, but this program has brought us all to a better relationship with the Lord. They offered us marriage counseling which we are still going through. They've taught us so much about Marriage and family. The Pastor at the ranch Pastor Erin and the main over seer Jonny have worked very hard to keep my family united. Pastor Erin has always gone above and beyond to keep our family together as we are a family with 6 children and everyone at UTurn and Calvary Chapel Romoland has poured love on us even when I was skeptical. Many over seers there like Zach are always very helpful. They may seem tough and the rules are strict but I had to remember why my husband is there. Not everyone's situation is the same but I am extremely thankful for the strict rules, and the careful supervision. I believe everyone should do the 8 month commitment. 2 months is just the start, if you're a wife reading this and thinking, "that's a long time", it maybe but you will not be alone, the community at Calvary Chapel Romoland will embrace you. You are not alone, whatever the time frame your family decides to make it will be better than whatever misery you may be living in. If you've read this long you must be fed up like I was, but I can tell you there is hope in this place. You maybe asking what about the bad reviews, I've seen guys walk out of this place several times within the 6 months we have been there and they come right back. What a disappointing joke this program has become. A program that claims to be built on Christ, love, fellowship, and helping people in recovery should be providing a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable men who are struggling mentally, physically, and emotionally. Instead, it feels like those values are being used as a façade while people who are already down and out are being taken advantage of for labor and financial gain. I genuinely have to ask: what kind of rehabilitation program takes people in recovery to raves where drugs are present and where people are openly naked? How is that supposed to protect someone's sobriety or help prevent relapse? And it doesn't stop there. They were also taken to a college campus to help move new students into their dorms, where topless women were reportedly walking around the men while they were working. This is especially concerning when you consider that there are also men in the program who are specifically there for sex addiction and are supposed to be working on recovery, boundaries, and self-control. How is intentionally placing people in environments filled with obvious triggers consistent with a responsible rehabilitation program? Then there are serious questions surrounding the use of participants' labor. When people enter a rehabilitation program because they are vulnerable and desperately need help, their labor should not become a way for individuals connected to the program to personally benefit. There have also been claims of participants providing substantial plumbing work on the pastor's son's brand-new home. If that work was performed for personal benefit without fair compensation, that raises serious questions about where the line between rehabilitation, service, and exploitation is being drawn. People in recovery deserve transparency, accountability, safety, and genuine support. They deserve an environment designed to help them succeed--not one that repeatedly places them in situations that could jeopardize their recovery. If this program truly represents the Christian values it claims to stand for, then there should be nothing to fear from transparency and accountability. At this point, it is incredibly difficult to see the love, compassion, and genuine fellowship that are being preached. What I see is a program that appears to have lost sight of the very people it was created to help. People who are struggling deserve better. People in recovery deserve better. And they deserve a program that puts their recovery above money, labor, and personal gain. read more

I wasn't placed here for addiction. I have never done drugs or alcohol due to my parents i have never even smoked a cigarette because my mom smelled like an ashtray. I was placed here because the state took my two kids due to my epilepsy and the fact that at the time we were in a shelter near march air force base. I went to Calvary Chapel for help but they didn't know how to help so they temporarily housed me here while they figured out how to meet the demands of the court to get me on SSI and an apartment for six months. Let me tell you what I went through and saw. I saw true addicts come into this place and be treated like SLAVE LABOR. They woke us up daily before dawn for an ice cold shower no hot water, gave us some crap oatmeal, gave each woman a journal and a Bible we sat in a circle each morning and we picked a verse that we were supposed to share with the group and say why it meant something to us write it in the journal. That's it that was morning counseling. Then they separated us half would go to the Baptist College and half to some warehouse they owned. At the Baptist College we changed beds and cleaned rooms for people who had been there for conferences and at the warehouse we stocked shelves, filled boxes, and sold those boxes of food and housewares supplies to people for $35-40. You got lunch a sandwich pbj or bologna/cheeseno mayo, mustard in a zip lock and a fruit and a juice box in a paper bag. If you had talked back during the day or screwed up you could be put on silence meaning you couldn't talk to anyone. If you still screwed up or broke your silence well you got to dig a hole when you got back... not just any hole mind you depending on how mad you made them it depended on if you got a soft hole or a hard hole. A soft hole was one that had been dug by someone else previously, a hard one was firm. And no you didn't get a shovel you got an honest to God metal SPOON to dig these damn holes and they had to be exactly 8 ft deep and 8 feet wide creepy ass heck it was like digging your own grave. You dug until 2am and if it wasn't done that night you came back every night until it was. The digging began after dinner dinner was the same every day beans and rice and a slice of bread you were reminded constantly of the saying BEANS AND RICE AND JESUS CHRIST IS ALL YOU NEED. The only times they gave us meat and was when they brought these poor addicts families into their little ruse for their BBQS and if you were in trouble they didn't let you go or told your family you weren't feeling well needed extra counseling and were having a tuff time of it. The women were not allowed to write to any men outside of the place unless they were married to them and letters were read before they got sent they made sure nothing bad was ever said about this place. Then they served chicken, hot dogs, burgers. Maybe a burrito but it was all show. Know what hell you are sending your family members into. read more

This is not a rehab, it's a penal colony. At least it was when I was there. It was overcrowded and many of us were sleeping on mattresses on the floor in the mess hall. Leadership was cold and uncaring about the physical well being of the people they were supposedly responsible for "rehabilitating." I became ill while at U-turn, and had to convince them that I needed medical attention. Instead of taking me to the hospital, they dropped me off at a bus stop somewhere in Riverside. I had a terrible pain in my abdomen, couldn't eat, and had a 102 fever, and it was 96 degrees outside. I waited hours for the bus and eventually ended up calling a cab. Once I was finally examined at the ER, they ran a CT scan and found a football sized abscess under my intestines where my appendix had burst a week before. It was a miracle that I was still alive. I was in the hospital on and off for the next few months until I could have what was left of my appendix removed. These people claim to be Christians, but treat hurting people like trash because of their views on the "power of faith", as if faith is some kind of currency that God deals in. This is a dangerous, disgraceful, and dishonest program that should be investigated and permanently closed. They are not trained or equipped to deal with mental or physical health problems, and are barely biblically competent if at all. The people running it should stop claiming the name of Christ and bringing dishonor to Him by taking his name in vain. read more

2011 graduate. I am nearly 10-years clean. I am a Christian. Before I got sober I went through no less the 20 different rehabs, treatment centers, and addiction recovery sites. U-Turn for Christ was by far the worst I experienced. It is putative, exploitive, and authoritarian. Its framework for addiction recovery is throughly braindead nonsense informed by deep spiritual, moral, and intellectual poverty. Sadly, it is so much worse than an ineffective approach. On several occasions I witnessed what could only be described as human rights violations, and that's excluding the ethically questionable labor-camp-like activity (sorry, coerced volunteerism) that describes everyday life on the Ranch. It's certainly possible the U-Turn today is dramatically different from the one I attended ~15 years ago. I certainly hope so. Testimonial anecdotes will always be held up to contradict criticism, but these, of course, do not represent the broader range of experiences and distract from the ministry's fundamental dysfunction, despite the ability for healing to occur, for grace to abound, and for God to reach people in spiritually dark settings. Keep in mind, I am not hostile to faith, biblically-informed responses to addiction, or the necessity or moral and character formation in recovery. U-Turn for Christ is simply a bad ministry. THere is NO 12 step program, NO councelling, NO discussing your problem. Stick you in a room with a Christian cassette tape ! Rest of the time you SLAVE working, cleaning the entire premises and Thrift store LABOR. They keep you in FEAR of making any mistakes and have some stiff punishments. I went through the program for 2 months. THe place was disgusting and shocking. The success rate is poor with most heroine addicts always retourning several times almost like \"Lifers\". I only drank Beer as an addiction. I had put MYSELF in the program to reconcile with my wife show willingness to change my addiction, but she didn't forgive me. I lived in constant fear there (the constant fear they create to subjugate/break you) and deep depression every day I was there. I signed up for the 2 month program. They Pressure you to continue on the next 6 month program. They won\'t let you make a call and won\'t give you a ride to the airport or use phone if you leave. The Head Pastor is awful. Mean and onery to everyone. The #1 Mini-Me there used heroin while I was there and they just demoted him temporarily. You see how clean and sober THEY are ? Where was the love ? No where. Program was 30% lame bible studies. I sought God INTENSELY by myself while there because I didn\'t trust them at all. The Pastor had it in for me and verbally trapped me 3 times in his office and once really bad in his vehicle because I planned to not stay on after my 60 days. He scared the shit out of me that day as I just sat there stiff. The whole place was so bad that it FORCED me to seek God on my own. But they did not lead me to God because they were pathetic. My wife was at this place about 1 year ago. She was going through a rough time with drugs and this was our last resort. So we gave this place a shot. We had heard good things about it. I didn't think it would work but it transformed my wife wife's heart into good. It was hard for her but in there she met her maker and fell in love with God something I thought she would never do was know Him. With the love and support of her family and knowing God. My boyfriend went to U-Turn for Christ in Perris, CA and this was his second rehab. I was not hopeful with him going in and now he is a changed man by God. I am so beyond blessed for the guys at U-Turn. This rehab is tough, they are strict and they put them to work, but that worked well for my boyfriend and he responded very well to this program and the guys there. All the glory goes to God, recovery isn't about the place but he really liked this place and they handled him with grace. The last place he went to was a little more lenient but here they are very serious about their rules and the consequences are real and that's what he needed! The intentions of the program at U-Turn For Christ are great. When compared to other rehab programs I've been through, this one has been the most effective. Although you may have heard negative feedback from other previous enrollees, the program promotes self-growth, as a mature adult. It teaches you accountability and to be responsible for your actions, which some may not agree with. At times, the disciplines for breaking the rules seem a bit harsh depending on the circumstance, but there might be more to the stories than what's told, such as previous warnings, etc. If you just follow the rules, you have nothing to worry about. When you're out in the real world we have rules we have to follow to, these are called laws and the consequences are much greater. The program also allows enrollees to learn work skills and gain experience through real life jobs. They teach you how to develop routines, which is a valuable life skill. You also learn a lot through church services. The program is challenging, requiring you to be at your peak performance as an adult, however if you're willing to change your life for the better, for yourself and those you love, you can do it. It is not easy, but neither is success. Just remember, "I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me" (Philippians 4:13). I am now in 2nd Phase, and 1st Phase flew by fast. It seemed to be going super slow at first, but before I knew it, I was moving into the 2nd Phase house and it is awesome. Like every organization, there's always room for improvement, this program is no exception to that truth. They do the best they can with funds that they have. I have taken some time to read the reviews for U-Turn and am so saddened by what is being said. I am not an employee nor family member and the testimony I'm about to give is true and real. My children have all been raised in a loving Christ centered home. My 18 year old son decided he would see what "the other side" looked like his senior year of high school. Long story short, he found himself using drugs and became addicted. He lived a short time on the street and came home in January of this year for help. We immediately reached out to U-Turn for Christ and admitted him to the camp. When he must be disciplined for unacceptable behavior his required to write essays, if discipline must be escalated, yes, he must dig a hole. He does hard labor as part of the therapy. I applaud U-Turn for the disciplines & respect, and submission and reverence instilled in my son. He is now approaching his promotion out of the camp. We are overwhelmed by the transformation that has taken place. He has his smile back! I didn't realize how dark he had become. EVIL. Very abusive environment made to generate money from people suffering from addiction. I was here for 30 days and lost 30 pounds because they feed you the bare minimum of expired food. My punishment for my mom sneaking me protein bars was to dig my own grave, barefoot, in the middle of the night, in a pit of rotting pig carcasses. Lots of hypocrisy, lots of forced labor, very little gospel. There are so many other places you can go to get sober, find GOD, and not be tortured. Christ does love you and is the answer. Listen no program is perfect. No one program is for everyone. Some of those reviews on here are from people stuck in there pride and still blamimg everyone else for there problems or by those who did nothing but cause problems while in attendance. I can only tell you this. My life is different now because of Gods word. U-TURN is a place that you can come and get away from the distractions of todays world. Its a place to renew the mind. Heres the deal all of us where sober when we decided to start whatever it is alcohol drugs porn gambling. So the problem is in the mind. Your sober when you make the worst choices of your life. So the problem is being sober and being worldly minded. U-TURN allows one to renew the mind through Gods word. Is U-TURN perfect no its not. What program is. Gods word is perfect though. If you struggle with Jesus or the idea of God well you will be stuck in the same addictive mindset sober. Romans 12:1-2. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. U-TURN allows you to do just that. Like I said its not perfect and yes sometimes they make mistakes and yes I made mistakes while I was in a postion of leadership there but thats the beauty of it. I have been associated with the ministry of U-turn for almost 15 years now. I have seen countless lives changed here through the working of Gods spirit. I have also witness those who continue to run there own program and think they got all the answers leave the program and keep turning there neighborhoods in to obstacle courses with the police. I would give zero stars if I could. This place may PREACH the word of God but they do not practice it. My son needed to go to a rehabilitation place. This IS NOT for rehab. at all. They just preach at you. No therapy or Counseling at all. My biggest complaint is I understand if they say no phones. But if they take your phone when you check in they should at least return it. My son and I live in San Diego, twice we had to go up there to try to get the phone. 1 1/2 hour drive one way. First they mailed us wrong phone. So we drove up to return it and get his. They KNEW we were coming. Got there " Oh sorry don't have keys to office" Second time, they now to my face called my son a LIAR saying he didn't leave a phone there and they never got his phone. I know for a fact my son had his phone when he went there. They are the ones lying. read more
